Good result that. Goals from Joe Preece and Josh Toulson. Saltash lads are improving all the time now and that's 7 from 9 in the last 3. Wellington goal was a penalty after 5 mins after that we kept then relatively quiet.

Real 6 pointer last night, and now puts 8 points between them and the bottom 2.  Big step towards keeping The Ashes in the Western Prem for next season.

Only 1 down according to rules and with league a side light...

In all seriousness its been good see the lads develop this season. Bar some results the games have close and figures dont lie lost 16 but goal average of only -18.

Street Fc 0 Falmouth Town 2
Massey ️
Att 91
Match report in the absence of the
professionals Scott and Nigel. I will attempt to write a report from last nights game.
So we continued our challenge for the league title with a solid performance on a mild dry evening in Somerset to come away with a 2-0 win.
Falmouth went with the same starting line up as on the previous Saturday.
Opening moves were a bit cagey but Falmouth gradually began to get on top and start to dominate the possession.
The opening goal game from a Bradley Leivers cross that found Oscar Massey who’s shot was parried by the much loved keeper (by the Street Ultras) Jordan, but he couldn’t stop it from going over the line. Rubin Wilson made sure of it, but the ball was adjudged to have already crossed the line.
Town nearly added a second shortly after when a cross from Luke Barner found Andreas Calleja-Stayne whose shot was somehow saved by Jordan, who knew little about it.
The first half continued in largely the same vein with Town having most of the possession, but Street did well to stop us getting any shots away.
The second goal came after a good spell of passing. Jack Webber finding James Swan who’s decent cross found Oscar Massey with the sweetest of strikes that gave Jordan no chance.
Half time 0-2

The second half continued in much the same way, with Town again having the lions share of possession.
Falmouth seemed to be winning corner after corner but most of them came to nothing.
What might have been a turning point was the sending off of the Street player who picked up two yellows in quick succession, for fouls on Ward and Webber, however as so always happens this seemed to galvanise Street and they actually started to play better football.
Cameron Hutchinson and later Luke Brabyn replaced Jared Sims and Rubin Wilson respectively, but Town couldn’t find that killer third goal.
Street had one or two chances for which Morgan Coxhead had to be alert for Falmouth’s 20th clean sheet of the season. One was headed straight at him when the striker really should have scored.
Bradley Leivers made way for Max Everall for the last few minutes.
Falmouth held out and now move within a point of Clevedon with a game in hand to set it up nicely for Friday at Helston
Man of the match Andreas, although I think you just could pull a name out of a hat these days as everybody is playing so well.

Falmouth Town:  Morgan Coxhead, James Swan, Bradley Leivers, James Ward (C),Tom Annear, Andreas Calleja-Stayne, Jared Sims, Jack Webber, Luke Barner, Oscar Massey, Rubin Wilson.  Subs: Cam Hutchinson, Max Everall, Luke Brabyn, Andrew Westgarth

UTMT 💛🖤

We’ve seen photos of St blazey earlier in the week underwater but I have to say I’m surprised Helston off so early when their pitch has stood up to a lot of bad weather days this season. Could it not have been left until the morning to decide as local match?

Especially considering they're losing out on a good Bank Holiday attendance!

Exactly Dave.

With an attendance that could have been in the 1500-2000 range I am sure Helston did everything they could do get this match on.  With ticket and bar takings, this was a £10,000 plus revenue day for them.  No way they would postpone this until they were 100% sure it was not playable.

Lots of other WL and SWPL games, including neighbour Wendron, also called off already today.

I tend to agree, considering Falmouth only played 3 days ago away in Somerset and it’s another game they have to fit in. Furthermore, it should make the end of season run in more exciting with this game being put back. Clevedon could be heading the table by Monday afternoon. Will probably head to St Austell now.

With the possibility of such a gate, I'm still surprised the game has been called off a day earlier than necessary. The wait might have been worth it and wouldn't have hurt anyone. This fixture might be put back now after final positions have been decided and you can guarantee the attendance won't be so big.

Or… Could it be the title decider ??

The other side of the "big crowd therefore good revenue earner" coin is "early postponement, avoid the cost - and waste - of food, etc., that can be cancelled with 24 hours notice", not to mention being able to stand down volunteers who can then make arrangements to join their families on what is an important holiday weekend to many, and coaches can make alternative arrangements regarding training.  Sometimes you really can call it the day before without fear of contradiction, in which case the sensible thing to do is also the responsible thing to do.

When you know your own ground and how it drains it is more than sensible to call off as early as possible to avoid the frustration a lake decision causes, Paul and his team at Helston work tirelessly to ensure they get as many games as they can ON so they must have taken this action with very heavy hearts, big up to them for being so pro-active and giving everyone a chance to make other arrangements

Although to be fair they have a strong enough squad to cover absentees.

Regarding an earlier comment - indeed, an early off decision is certainly of help to some.

That’s true! The climate trend is more rainfall for winters now but that trend continuing into spring will get worse for completing fixtures.

They (Helston Ath) have made big efforts to get the last game or two on.  So there must be real concerns over the pitch.

Having said that, to call it off as early as they have is a real head scratcher and is the reason so many are jumping to conclusion.  if they were welcoming a team from Devon or further you could understand, but a team from 10 miles down the road, it certainly doesn't look good to anyone.

All looks a little suspicious to me. Helston having had some less than convincing results and performances lately, Falmouth playing well at the moment and arguably the best team in the league. Helston have a couple of injuries too. Game gets called off extremely early by Helston and not even entertained the idea of letting a referee decide on the day. Now Falmouth will have to play three games in a week whereas Helston will be fresh as no midweek fixture for them. I wonder who suggested the new date? The weather in the Helston area has been sublime today, barring one or two showers which would’ve dried in no time.

If Ilfracombe's game was deemed to have been called off prematurely at 70 minutes before kick-off, what about the Helston/Falmouth game?

Hearing that a couple of interested parties took a look at the Helston pitch from the sidelines today and it looked playable.

It would be impossible logistically in most cases, but sometimes feel that a representative of each club should be present when these decisions are made so far in advance, although we should trust the referee of course.

On that note, does anyone think that some clubs (and not saying Helston) have friendly local officials they can call on if they want games postponed for any reason?

Regardless, it is hard to imagine that Helston would turn down a massive pay day like today just because of a couple of injuries.

Having a local referee in is only to convey situation/video call match referee who is still the one who makes the final decision. The Helston game was also inspected by an official of the level above what was needed for the game.

Looking on the plus side Clevedon dropped 2 points today away at Nailsea and Tickenham. With them playing Bridgwater at home on Monday,Helston at Barnstaple in les Phillips cup action and Falmouth away at 2nd from bottom welton rovers ,its going to be an interesting top of the table.

Totally agree Nige, that result v Nailsea isn't that surprising as they were difficult to break down last week, very organised side.

Another draw on Monday v Bridgwater at we hit Welton for 4 then we're 2nd on goal difference or if Bridgwater and Falmouth win then 2nd by a point.Making the already mouthwatering game with Clevedon at Bickland on the 6th April a real blockbuster.

As you say an interesting top of the table !

Made good friends with a regular supporter of Bridgwater United during one of my earlier visits and we keep in regular contact. We shared messages yesterday and they are expected to field a much weakened team tomorrow due to numerous player family commitments.

Heard a rumour that Millbrook v Torpoint was not played because Torpoint refused to play even though the referee had deemed the pitch playable. Can anyone shed light on this subject?

We highlighted concerns with the pitch upon arrival with excess sand on the pitch. The referee did confirm at 08:00 that the pitch was playable, via video call. However when the main areas were assessed in person the pitch wasn't playable. I will say, Millbrook worked on the pitch relentlessly Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.

If it was a case of refusing to play, a team would be docked points so hopefully that's cleared up.
