I see in the Saltash team this afternoon River Allen played hope he didnt get injured and not be fit to play for Blazey ,also 2 liskeard lads in there squad Dan Jennings and Harvey Mullis this isnt fair at all they are taking the places of the lads that usually play in the team its about time this was stopped its all about greed

Attended saltash v bitton, didn't realize river Allen was playing...easy win for saltash, they could of scored more, but bitton were poor I think anyone in the swpl would of beat them, a bitton fan did explain they lost a lot of players and several of today's team were from the under 18s, there number 10 stood out one of the 18year olds,I agree with 100%cornish this dual signing needs to be stopped it's just player greed!

In all fairness river Allen started and looked composed in midfield today for saltash, although was not the difference between the two sides as bitton looked awful.  However jennings and Mullins on the bench and came in last 10 minutes. No first team regulars missed out as few missing due to holiday, weddings and suspensions so saltash probably needed extra bodies today. Having said that I do agree bringing in dual registered players is not great for team development or morale if done regularly

Not sure what it was like elsewhere but the wind spoilt the game to a large extent at Helston.

Blowing right down the pitch towards main road end for the whole match.

Also top scorer Rubin Wilson not on song as arrived at game feeling unwell, but no real alternative on the day to take his place.

Jordan Copp scored on 33 minutes, but with the wind behind them, never really used it to their benefit. Dead ball situations disappointing.

Sherborne got equaliser two minutes into the second half and although both sides had opportunities to score again, I think probably both would have settled for a point each as the game went on.

Torpoint AFC 2-2 Welton Rovers

HT - 0-2

Never easy coming into a game still looking for the first win of the League campaign. Welton arrived, and prepared, like a team expecting to pick up 3 points.

The game was barely 10 minutes when the visitors played a neat one two around the Torpoint defence to go one up with their first chance of the game. Rovers didn't stay on top for long with Hardcastle causing issues for the full back down the right hand side. Initially he had an effort put wide before seeing a further cross cleared by the defender. As the 20 minute mark arrived, Richards found himself the wrong side of the defender charging down one on one towards the keeper. The defender, who could've attempted a tackle declined, and pulled Richards to the ground by his shirt leaving the referee no choice but to show red. The resulting free kick from Crawford smashed off the woodwork. The sides then shared golden opportunities with first Pacey blazing over one on one before the opposition 9 put his uncontested header over the bar. Minutes before the break and Torpoint well on top, the ball was played to Haslam 20 yards. He was then dispossessed, with the home players appealing for a foul then #10 placed home. Immediately from KO, Torpoint broke again through Hardcastle. His cross was met too well by Hicks as it grazed the top of the bar from 4 yards.

Entering the second half. It must've been a simple team talk for Cardew, keep creating chances and make sure you take them. With the first 10 minutes uneventful, Hird and Thompson replaced Haslam and Hicks. Damerell with the best early chance but you guessed it... Nodded over... Torpoint soon had their goal for their possession, J.Heveran heading home well from a set piece. Reducing the advantage and holding the man extra, Pacey was quickly subbed to prevent him a forced early shower from the referee. As the game ticked to 70 minutes, it was the visitors again who saw red. This time, the effective #10 who had been in discussion with the home crowd since the start of the half found himself inside the area. Already on a booking, he threw himself to the fall and the official had no choice but to brandish a second yellow. The post red scenes became unsavoury as words were exchanged with Peters and the referee with the main man then issuing a straight red. Torpoint continued to dominate, another chance for Hird from less than 5 yards out hit the bar. With Torpoint in full control, a foul was adjudged to be committed by the Rovers #8. Already on a booking, the referee decided to show his 3rd (technically 4th) red of the game. This one, however, could be deemed extremely harsh and the player could feel hard done by. More chances came with Heveran, Hird and Damerell all seeing efforts well saved by the keeper who had a stormer. Torpoint finally found their leveller in the 88th again from J.Heveran. With men flooding forward and the belief they could grab a winner, first Thompson hit the post from 8 yards out before yet another chance cannoned off of the bar as the final whistle blew.

A frustrating game and disappointed to only come away with a point. For a side that scored 150 goals last season, we're having issues putting the ball in the net. The positives are we're creating chances and with a fit Damerell and Richards the goals will come.

FA Cup next where results have been better. It's been a baptism of fire in the Western League but Dean and the team will settle and find their feet. Every side has a tough patch, our just might be early.

Windy-ish at Trungle (maybe 15-20 gusting 25-30) but blowing side-to-side across the pitch so not all that consequential.

Falmouth missing a trick here . Struggling massively  for a striker and yet  there Saltash  calling  up the likes of Dan Jennings , river Allen  and Levi landricombe to sit on a bench and help out no wonder they are top.
surly James Lorenz or Liam eddy today would have helped Falmouth. 🤔

Falmouth did bring in a D/R with Truro City reserve keeper Morgan Coxhead making a debut.

Town still seeking their first point on their travels with scores getting better  1-3, 1-2,  0-1. but next stop is Saturday at Trungle Park

Duel signings will never be stopped and the team that has access to the best available ones will succeed. Seen parkway do it for years help them.

It'll be stopped to certain extent next season with the merger of the Western League and the Peninsula League.

Personally, I don’t think clubs (at all levels) should go down this avenue ie borrowing players for one off games, as ultimately, it becomes a bad habit and in the long term it tends to do more harm than good to the club.

Or the referee's applying the rules of course.

Condemned when they do , pilloried when they don't.

Just for the record ,thought the 3 officials at Ashton and Backwell yesterday were very good and told them so in the clubhouse after which they were appreciative of .

The two Cornish clubs promoted into the Western league experiencing tough starts. Shows that it is indeed a considerable jump considering they both walked their respective divisions last season.

In the case of Falmouth Town, they have had lots of key players unavailable since the start of the season.

Crucially, captain James Ward missed both games against Helston and it seems was injured against Ashton & Backwell yesterday.  He is missed in both boxes as he has a decent goal-scoring record.

The other one is Jack Bray-Evans who has missed the last 4 games.  Against Helston, Town arguably had the better of the play and it seems it was similar yesterday against Ashton & Backwell, but couldn't convert the possession into goals. It sparks the debate held regularly on this forum about whether teams should bring in dual-registered players to cover for injuries. The black & white view in the case of Town would be absolutely yes. A replacement striker may have been able to convert some of the chances and it would be points on the board.  However, the long-term view would be that in Charlie Edney, they have a striker that will  probably become very effective with experience gained during the last few games. If he travelled to Bristol, only to sit on the bench and watch a dual-registered player take his place, it would not be good for his confidence. Falmouth have the correct approach to reward loyalty with the possible short-term pay-off that less points will be earned whilst their young players get up to speed.

Very good point about Edney and why would you need to drop him ?
Saltash used Levi landricombe and Jennings both on the bench very good subs to bring on against a tired Weston defences and experience players that someone like edney would learn off.
I get the reasons behind not wanting to do it but the western league is a tough league and could be the difference of staying up and going down having that help

And let’s be honest - Ashton and Backwell were in a false position last season- their 2nd half of the season was much improved and didn’t they beat Tavistock and Mousehole? It’s a banana skin their place - great people mind!

The chap on the gate as we were leaving apologised for their smash and grab and thanked us for the atmosphere generated.😁

I am sure that any genuine Falmouth Town wants to see them in a league where victories have to be earned, and where no wins can be taken for granted. No offence to the Peninsula League, but some of the matches in the league last season were "how many are we going to win by today?

It would be very easy to drag in "names" from all over the place to bolster the squad , but lots of good lessons will be learned by management, players and supporters this season.
