Carharrack 11 Stithians Res 0

When the FA spout on about "grass roots football" they may mean the clubs that qualify to enter the FA Vase but I think few of the stuffed suits that make up the FA have the vaguest notion of football at Trelawney 3 level. With all the squillions sploshing around the Premier League and some of their clubs dreaming of a European Super League which would only serve to bolster their bank balances even further, few "up there" in the game's hierarchy would know anything about the level of football enjoyed by so many thousands of players who pay to play for clubs which struggle for cash, ill-served by local FA branches which only serve to push struggling clubs further towards destruction by fining them when they are their weakest, i.e. haven't got enough players.

Today's game took place with one team starting with only 9 players, eventually swelling to 11 before half-time. I'd like to write more about that but some eagle-eyed geriatric from the FA might read it and seek some kind of punitive reaction. Carharrack's ground is looking tired now, in need of both cash and manpower which many a Premiership player could fund with money from down the back of their sofa.

Having said all that, the game took place, Stithians deserve immense credit for turning up and playing their best for 90 minutes - no 2nd half collapse - and Carharrack deserve credit for treating them with respect and battling for every goal.

Goals were on 13 minutes (Pearce), 17 (Pearce ), 26 (Elliot), 34 (Pearce, a free-kick which few GKs would have got near, so tight into the top left corner of the goal did it fly - a FK to grace even the Premiership with its accuracy), 44 (Rapsey), 45+1 (Pearce). There was a long delay at 4 - 0 for treatment to a Carharrack player with a nasty-looking knee injury. I hope it isn't one of his cruciate ligaments. So 6 - 0 at half-time. Then 49 (Elliot), 58 (Pearce), 60 (Pearce with a deft back-header), 66 (Rapsey), 90 (Treloar, I think. Rappo had provided me with the scorers' names up to that point!)

Such scorelines don't make for nice spectacles (Unless it was Man U on the wrong end, perhaps! Ooh, controversial!) (Well, they're Marmite United, really: you love 'em or don't like them.)

Free entry, of course: hot drinks £1, I recommend the chocolate! Bacon or sausage bap £2.

Falmouth United 2 vs 3 Goonhavern Res

firstly like to congratulate Goonhavern, they battled superbly from start to finish, I was left on my own to manage today and was really pissed off at full time as it looks bad on me but after having time to reflect I’ve got no arguments.

We controlled the game probably 70-30 possession and had probably had 30 ish shots to 5 maybe but the final score is all that matters and Goonhavern deserved their celebrations they earned it.

Also can’t fault our boys football apart from the final product which sometimes you have to put down to just “ one of those days “.

Smash and grab from the Goonies, all the best from Falmouth United for the season, set up like that you ll be very hard to break down fo most teams 👍

Junior cup next week VS St just at home to look forward too

Plenty of support available through the Football Foundation, volunteers are what grassroots football is based on. Not sure why individuals should give up their wages to help a club they have no relation to and whilst the higher echelons of the Premier League make obscene amounts of money there are some who don't earn anywhere near as much in their short career.

By all means, if you have some positive contributions that you feel you could make in amendments to the Trelawny League rules, pass them to Richard who could get them proposed.

An unusually moany post from you today Tom. Did you wake up on the bad side of the bed?

Peggy:

It was my perception of the predicament Stithians FC seem to be in, there at a place where Carharrack were pre-lockdown season and where others have been with no help that I can see from the local or national FA, so I was really feeling for Stithians. Look, I've been a critical sort of guy all my life so at least by now I qualify to be a Grumpy Old Man. Any helpful ideas I might have to help clubs at Trelawney level (I can think of one) would conflict with long-established FA rules so daft to continue head-banging a brick wall. If I could only come up on Euromillions I would help loads of local football clubs. Some chance!

And don't earn as much in their short career? £50K (poor pay for the Premiership) is £2.6 million for one year, far more than I've been paid for over 40 years of teaching. So they can afford it. A 10% levy on all Prem and Championship wages, tax free, would generate colossal sums of money that could be filtered down to genuine grassroots level. This would be on top of current "grants", which depend of there being people at a club who can put together the wording needed to win a grant.

And I meant "there" meaning a place, not "They're" which, on re-reading, would have been just as appropriate a word!

Probus 3 (Jack Truscott, Ben Daniel, Gordon Douglas) Constantine Reserves 1

Trelawny 3

We took the lead in the 2nd minute when Oscar Thomas-Donald won a header just inside the Constantine half and the ball dropped to Jack Truscott who took it forward and calmly finished into the corner of the net. The visitors almost equalised when a through ball bounced nicely for their centre forward to lob the on rushing Sam Jones. It looked like the ball would bounce into the roof of the net but Andy Sheer didn’t give it up and sprinted back to head the ball off the line. We increased our lead after 14 minutes when Luke Gaye was fouled 10 yards into the away teams half on the right. From the resulting free kick George Truscott put in a brilliant ball that Ben Daniel volleyed home from close range. Jack Truscott was working hard up front for us and keeping Constantine’s back line busy. He had a shot saved and Joe Emmett’s follow up was pushed away for a corner. After 36 minutes Jack Truscott again caused problems and his excellent run and shot hit the post, after the keeper got his finger tips to it. Unfortunately he got injured shortly afterwards in a challenge with the tough tackling visitors centre back, which meant he had to come off. Constantine also lost a defender to injury after a foul - we hope that the player wasn’t too badly hurt. As the clocked ticked towards 45 minutes Oscar Thomas-Donald got free and his layoff led to substitute Gordon Douglas finishing well. 3-0 at halftime.

After the break Constantine upped their game and our levels dropped, which resulted in the visitors having the better of the second half. They got a goal back after 63 minutes when a foul out on our right allowed them to put a dangerous ball into the box. Ben Daniel challenged for the ball, but he could only head towards his own goal and Sam Jones made an excellent reaction save but unfortunately the ball popped up the the Constantine midfielder who headed home from a yard out. We felt that Ben Daniel was barged in the back from the initial cross, however the referee couldn’t see it from where he was. They almost pulled another goal back with 12 minutes to go but Sam Jones made an excellent save, which probably won us the game. We had a few chances but the Constantine keeper was equal to them. Final score 3-1.

We were pleased to get the win but this really was a game of 2 halves - we were excellent in the first half but poor in the second. Thank you to the stand in referee from Constantine, who had a good game. We have a very difficult challenge next week when we are up against Duchy Division One team St Columb Major at home in the Junior Cup.

Hate to break the romance of the initial thought, but if the top brass running this country fill their pockets by lobbying and a few brown envelopes, I think most of the money that would "filter" down as you say, would either run out or be trousered.

Whether we like to admit it or not, there are a lot of shameful people in the game. Start giving them types wads of cash and it will cause a bigger problem sadly

Saturday November 13th
Illogan park

New Inn Titans 5 - 0 Holmans Res

The day was upon us, Local rivals Holmans made the short trip from Camborne to Illogan to play the League Leaders New Inn Titans

Shaun Isaacs was there early, the kit was in the changing rooms, but one man was missing… Johnny “The Bull” Jones was up Plymouth donning his best Hugo boss gear, and necking a few litres of Vodka on a family weekend away.
Shaun only had one trick up his sleeve and he pulled the rabbit right out the hat and stuck, Connor “Beale” Arthur upfront.

Barry ‘Ramos’ Penfold was fuming, as he’d had to get the Christmas tree out the loft, this morning , and he’d also had a bit of dry Chinese the night before so he was already spitting.
He had the boys firing it right up in the warm up, this man was after victory like Churchill was when we invaded the beaches in the 40s.

Kick off came about and the referee wanted the teams to gather round the centre circle for a minutes silence… to which Johnny Jones Snr, shouts out,
“Why ref, has somebodies dog died?”

The game kicks off, and the team lines up as follows

Leigh
Jareth
Barry P
Pascoe
Joshy Symons
Baber
Robert Penfold
White Pogs
Mushy Jnr
Wardy (‘I can’t get my nose ring out ref’)
Beale

Now the game started off shaky, but a crowd had drawn in from all over the shop… there was Symons , Isaacs , Iveys, everywhere.

New inn couldn’t get out the blocks and even when holding a high line in the half way line, Holmans front players and midfield pressed quickly and well. It took about 20 minutes of Baber getting kicked all around the grass, and Arthur ripping the Holmans defenders a new one but getting kicked like a Old donkey, for titans to really get the juice flowing … and a free kick won by Connor on the edge of the area crested an opportunity which Beale smashed into the net.
This got the blood pumping like a 80 year old man taking Viagra for the first time… and that was it then New inn started to dominate play and the tempo.
White Pogs with his silky drag backs, received  a ball from Joshy at LB and with a graceful pivot and flick turned Beale into a foot race with Sam Emery who must of felt like he was Razor Ruddock chasing Usain bolt from the corner shop for 4 tinnies cause Beale left him for dead, and slotted it into the bottom corner , absolutely clinical and 2-0 half time.

Half time comes we’re in the changing room and Shaun isaacs is as happy as the moment he left it in a little bit more than normal, a few weeks back, and he was giving his boys the team talk!

“Right boys, keep playing the football, 1st and 2nd balls to win, and get the ball to Beale, cause he’s tearing Emery the stiff board to bits”

Now out we go pumped up.
Connor has been kicked about 28 times and a half at least and he was Raring to go!

Off goes the second half.
More slick dominant football with Titans defence and midfield wining every battle and next minute Beale is through again, he’s in. BOOM the net ripples. 3-0. It’s become the Connor Arthur show, he’s a 1 man army.
Baber and Both Penfold brothers dominating the midfield and Wardy and Mushy Jnr out wide causing endless issues for the Holmans defenders and midfield.

Now Connor had Emery pissing out straight , and another through ball, Connor uses his pace and burns off the defenders to only get swiped out as he pulls the trigger. PENALTY

Now Robert Penfold was about to quit for the 88th time in a month, but he grabbed the ball, and says “If I don’t take it I am going off” Connor selfishlessly gives Penfold the ball. He tucks it away with Ease. 4-0.

10 to go, and Connor picks the ball up, 3 yards out and let’s rip with the shot going on target a defender slides in, and deflects the ball out of Nathan iveys reach. 5-0

Some outstanding performances from the boys, Defence defending superbly and getting another clean sheet between the back 5.

Baber in midfield working tirelessly as he has some frustration to get off his chest. Dogged and ruthless with winning the ball and breaking up play.
White Pogs and Robert superb in the middle creating and the wide boys were awesome up and down all game.

Well reffed by Sam Doble. 9/10

But man of the match was Beale. Sublime, fast and clinical. Get on boy. Get a hair cut.

Absolutely right, Tom. The FA is a machine of graft and privilege devoted to taxing the poor grassroots to subsidise the hospitality boxes of Wembley. It views genocidal tyrants as fit and proper controllers of football clubs and plunders what the working class devised, to meet the demands of plutocrats and to nurture a world of addicted gamblers.

DIV 3

CARHARRACK  11-0  STITHIANS

ATT   22

REF  Jamie Chown  excellent

MOM   Justin Pearce  (Carharrack)

Toms already done a bit of report so just a quick “highlights” update. Firstly well done to Stithians for fielding a team after not being able to the last 2 games. Not one player gave up for the whole 90 minutes despite the scoreline, deserve great credit, and unlucky not to get a consolation goal, well done lads  👏🏼 Good win for 2nd placed Carharrack to claw back some goal difference on top of the table Probus who beat Constantine 3-1 today.

12’  Ben Rapsey shot from edge of area well saved down low by the keeper but the alert Justin Pearce followed up to score from 6 yards.

17’  Great ball from Rapsey curled around the back of the defence for Pearce to run onto and lob the keeper with a deft flick.

26’  Driven corner from Will Rowe met with a power header from centre back Karl Elliott which thundered into the roof of the net.

34’. Superb free kick from Pearce from 25 yards, as Tom said would have graced any ground in the country at any level today, great technique 👏🏼

43’  Fine defence splitting ball from Pearce returning the compliment for Rapsey to run onto and slot into the bottom corner.

44’  Unfortunate injury to Ben Irish hearing his knee “pop” in his first appearance of the season. Carried from the field, real bad luck.

45+3’  Pearce completes the 1st half scoring left unmarked from a Jack Davey cross to notch his 4th of the afternoon.

HT    6-0

48’  Another pinpoint Rowe corner met with another powerful header from man mountain Elliott

58’ Long throw finds its way to the lively  unmarked Pearce who turns and shoots into the bottom corner from the edge of  the 6 yard box.

60’ Pearce completes his double hat-trick from a Ryan Enefor-Mills cross with an unbelievable “Chicqarito” back header into the top corner 👌

66’  Clever little one-two between Rapsey & Pearce sees Rapsey run through one on one to produce a clinical finish into the bottom corner

89’  Good battling from Elliott saw the ball break to Ryan Whitbread who shot across the keeper into the far corner to complete the scoring.

FT   11-0

Good grief. With scorelines like that I'd be inclined to find a new past time on a Saturday afternoon 😳😳😳

Wasn't so long ago that Carharrack were on the wrong end of scorelines like that. If it's your team, it's compulsive. Losing 14 - 1 at Falmouth three or four years back was only marginally less enjoyable than yesterday's game.  I think we all like to see a contest. With our side winning, of course!

Exactly Tom, the most positive thing to come out the match was Stithians getting 11 players on the pitch for most of the game and fulfilling the fixture after not being able to for the last 2 weeks incurring a fine and points deduction. I’m sure any true lover of Cornish football hates to see that for any of our teams. Well done to them for competing. 👏🏼 Also although a very good qualified ref well done to Jamie for being a stand in club ref. Also saw Paul Cardell former Penryn player do the same at Constantine a few weeks ago, both were excellent! Be good to see more ex players give it a go with the shortage in the Trelawny and Duchy leagues at the moment. You never know, you might enjoy it.

Threemilestone Reserves 10-2 winners on the day, my boys played some really good football from the off and after going 2-0 up decided to take the foot off the pedal, half time score 3-1, changed formation at half time to go and kill the game off which my lads did by scoring 3 goals in under 5 minutes.  All round good performance and wish the Tregony lads all the best going forward, must be noted there lads played with heart and never give up and after losing a few players and there manager recently it was always going to be a tough game for them with me having a few of my players back from work commitments and injuries. We wish them well, time for us to push on and keep getting the results that we know and believe we can get.
Goal scorers:

Nathan penfold 3

Mikey Lloyd 2

Chris Gummo 2

Jake freeland 1

Sam Johnson 1

Liam Patterson 1.

Man of the match, Mikey Lloyd.
