Liskeard out. ------ Torpoint, Saltash, Polperro ?????

Recommended Posts

Common sense at last. The decision to force a new league has completely back fired. I said at the time don't fix what is not broken. The ECPL for all its faults has been around since 1961. It has always been a friendly league – yes it has had its faults but strangely the new St Piran league has opened up the ECPL to receive more clubs from the Duchy League as well as elsewhere. It is understood that up to seven teams want to join the ECPL.

At the moment there is 23 teams in the ECPL. If Tavistock leave (I understood that is not final) and St Austell and Wadebridge pull out then that leaves 20. Add up to another 7 new entrants and the ECPL could have at least 27 teams for next season. Plenty for a two division set up.

That leaves 11 teams in the new St Piran L:eague.  Will the FA allow this to happen ?

Have Polperro decided to stay in ECPL?

Yes, regrettably, once we received news of the withdrawals of Liskeard, Torpoint and then Saltash, the club felt we were left with no option, as our closest away game would be St Austell or St Dennis.

Whilst we are keen to progress as a club, that progress has to be realistic and sustainable and it was felt that 13-14 away trips west of Truro was neither.

Hopefully the St Piran league can reinvent itself as a regionalised set up (as per Step 6) which will be more realistic in terms of travel, yet offer the non-reserve sides the opportunity to better themselves as the likes of St Dennis, Godolphin, Dobwalls etc have done in the recent past.

Can only be great news for the league and its sponsor .

Also I understand Bude are interested in re joining the ECPL.  Happy days.  The decision has destroyed the Combo yet enhanced the ECPL.   Don't be surprised if the Combo clubs will have second thoughts.  The whole show has been a farce from the start.  Perhaps the powers to be will look to keep football at this level as it is.  They have crucified the SWPL and now this ridiculous step 7.  The system was fine with the SWPL east and west with the combo and ecpl as feeders.  So what's changed are they seriously saying that the St Piran league will be stronger than the ECPL  Dream on.

It would have been 12 months ago or even longer so a league being run by County FA wouldnt have been in place at that point.

Im sure I said yonks ago it should be:

STEP 6 EAST & WEST

STEP 7 Cornwall EAST & WEST

STEP 7 Devon NE & SW

Mirror images with reduced travel!

All clubs in those divisions are then on the pyramid system and funding to improve facilities becomes available, but so does certain rules and regs.

Anything lower as leagues/divisions are recreational football!

I cant this being set up in a few weeks when its had 18 months already... sounds like Brexit!
