Falmouth town 3 - 2 Mabe

Falmouth went ahead in the 1st minute with a header from their unmarked midfielder who nodded the ball down into the corner. Town then extended their lead 15 minutes later when a ball whipped in was not cleared properly and the Falmouth player volleyed the ball in off the post. despite being 2 -0 down Mabe pressed town and had some good chances with the town keeper making some good saves. over all reflection of the 1st half is possession and play was even town just took their chances.

2nd half

Mabe came out looking to get ourselves back into the game but found ourselves 3 down when a Falmouth player who had to much time on the edge of the box fired a shoot in which the keeper (me) got his hand to but couldn't keep out. mabe upped their game and had the lions share of possession and managed to pull a goal back with a well taken free kick from luke murrey. mabe then got another goal back with 15 minutes to go when a fumble from the town keeper fell to the feet of luke again who tapped in. the last 15 minutes was all mabe as the pressed for an equaliser which never came. the ref bottled  two penalties shouts in the last couple of minutes for mabe.

well done to Falmouth and good luck in the semi, unfortunate to lose today as I think a draw would of been a fair result. but must say Falmouth town and mabe would do well in leagues a lot higher then div 4 the football was good today and even tho we lost I did enjoy the match.

St day reserves 2-7 Chacewater.  Game started bright with Chacewater scoring early on from a low corner that fell to shackley on the penalty spot to drill home. St day responded immediately with gavin boon round goalkeeper Darren Bennetts and firing home. Another corner for Chacewater and John dunstan popped at the back with a superb volley into the top corner to make it 2-1. The game then settled down and both teams started playing more football with by some great battles in the middle of the park between former teammates Chris Pridham John dunstan and nick Hutton of Chacewater and jake Merrifield Craig hitchens and Daine peacock of St day all on the same team last season. Despite their friendship pridham still put in a few meaty challenges leaving Merrifield on the floor on more than one occasion. Towards the end of the half luke brabyn and Ian Bromwell worked some nice play down the hand side to play the ball across for John dunstan to tap home his second and give Chacewater a 3-1 lead at half time. 2nd half started and continued to be a battle in the middle of the park. A ball over the top to shackley and after cutting in and firing across goal the keeper made a great save only for it to fall to Ian Bromwell to tap home and make it 4-1. Midway through the half a cross to the back post for gavin boon to volley was blocked by gavin Bennetts and fall back to boon to slot home and bring it back to 4-2. At this point you would think st day would come at us and possibly get something out of the game with plenty of time left but Chacewater turned it up a gear and St day couldnt match the work effort and ground being covered by both pridham and dunstan who were like machines covering every area they could. In the end pridhams hard work played it to brabyn who played it over to shackley to control with his left and volley it into the top corner just inside the box to shift the momentum back to us. Another corner not dealt with by st day and Ian Bromwell tapped home his second and then towards the end an Ian Bromwell cross was controlled by shackley to set brabyn up to fire with his left foot in the top corner to get his first goal for Chacewater and finish it 7-2. Great win for Chacewater and looks like a semi final against carharrack is on the the cards for u. Cheers for food afterwards st day and good to see some old friendly faces.

St Erme 7 - 0 Trevenson Res

With the sun beating down St Erme went into this quarter final of the Barker Bowl against ten man Trevenson in high spirits after a convincing win last week in the league. With both teams trying to play the ball on the ground, St Erme made the most of their one man advantage as they continued where they left off from the previous week. They went one nil up early in the game, as a ball played in from the right wing was only cleared to the edge of the box, where midfielder Andrew Mitchell volleyed the ball towards goal, his shot seemed to be heading towards the welcoming hands of the goalkeeper but speedy winger Terry Campbell had other ideas as he nipped in unopposed and struck the ball into the bottom corner. This spurred the home team on, and they soon doubled there lead as a cross from Mitchell was expertly headered past the despairing dive of the keeper from twelve yards by striker Elliott Jolly . The third goal wasn't as expertly crafted as the first two, but was equally as effective. Home keeper Lee Langmaids goal kick over the defence was chased down by Jolly, and after brushing off the challenge from the defender he slammed the ball past the keeper. Three soon became four when Jolly scored his sixth hat-trick and thirty third goal of the season as he headed a free kick from Campbell in at the back post.

The second half wasn't as goal packed as the first, but instead became a battle between three players of who could score the goal of the game. First up was Andrew Mitchell. The midfield engine received a pass from Adam Coveney at the edge of the area and with a first time shot, passed the ball with pinpoint precision into the bottom corner. Paul Hopkinson did his best to better that as he ran onto a bouncing ball twenty yards out and smashed the ball into the back of the net off the underside of the crossbar, giving the keeper no chance. Bulgarian Vencislav Velikov finished the scoring with his sixth goal of the season. Picking up the ball from a short corner, he dribbled the ball into the area and released a thunderbolt shot that hit the back of the net before any player had time to react.

A convincing win for St Erme, but Trevenson never made it easy for them, with every player giving 100% and also playing some really good football throughout the match. Striker Franco Lovelock lead the line brilliantly, and with a bit of luck on their side might have beaten keeper Langmaid, who ended up with his third clean sheet in a row.

Man of the match was Elliott Jolly as he added another hat trick and did a fine job as the focal point of the St Erme attack.

St Buryan Res 0-3 Trispen

Trispen move into the semi finals of the Lockhart Cup with a comfortable win over a spirited opponent.

Trispen opened the scoring with a wonder strike by Dean Dunn on the half volley. We continued to dominate the midfield with the pace and power of Martin Llloyd, Jonny Ridd and Simon Cole. The second come from the later Simon Cole who rounded off a superb move after lovely hold up play and pass from Shane Weeks.

We could and maybe should have scored more but went in 2 nil at halftime.

The second half was a much tighter affair with St Buryan much more spirited and pressed a lot higher up the park pushing more men forward without creating anything clear cut.

Trispen rounded off the game with a counter attack rounded off by Lewis Dodd back after a 2 week holiday layoff.

A solid win without playing at our best. Best of luck to St Buryan in their remaining fixtures.

mabe res 3-2 Newbridge

half time 0-2

mabe scorers: Ben Roberts, Carl ferris and Sam duckham

mabe started slowly and Newbridge came out the blocks quicker, pushing us back and creating chances. Their 1st goal coming from a quick break from a cleared free kick, ball went over our defender for the striker to run through and slot home. This woke us up and we finally got the ball down and started to play, moving the ball around better and tightening up the back 3. Newbridge scored again 10 minutes before the break, another fast breakaway and another long ball beating our defence, resulting in the other Newbridge striker finishing well from a tight angle over our keeper. We kept pushing until the half but we came in 2 down.

2nd half we came out wanting to get back in as quick as possible. 10 minutes into the 2nd half we got the goal out pressure deserved, an in swinging free kick by Carl, beat everyone including the keeper nestled in the back of the net. Our equaliser followed soon after, after a succession of corners, the ball got cleared and Ben knocked back towards goal and in it ended up going through the crowd and finishing its way into the net. Newbridge kept coming and had a couple chances in the 2nd half, but we wanted it more and a good through for Sam to run onto resulted in the winner with only a few minutes in the clock. The Newbridge keeper made a good save but the ball rebounded to Sam to poke home the winning goal

a good cup tie played in good spirits and well reffed by the young lad. On to the semi finals we go

Lol yeah same as dangerous from gwinear..

Firstly, I'm absolutely flattered to find out that I'm on your mind at 10pm in the evening. I'm sat at home spending time with my other half and little baby. Yet I'm guessing you're sat in a corner with a glass of wine in one hand, with a picture of me in the other, rocking away to the sound of Marvin Gaye.... Flattered, so thanks for that.

As for the game, Gwinear were In front after 10 minutes after a superb free kick from Craig Young. We controlled the game all the way through, with Exiles not really testing our keeper, the majority of their shots landing in Helston and Gwithian respectively.

I had a goal ruled out for offside (rightfully so), there were also some fantastic saves made by the visiting keeper, who definitely kept them in the game, along with the young CB who twice managed to intercept balls across the six yard box which were destined for me to hit the back of the net from. The game was one that was played predominantly in the middle third of the pitch, box to box stuff really with no real clear cut chances for either side.

With the last kick of the game, Away team equalised when we failed to clear up from a free kick on the edge of the box.

Into extra time, a cross came in and our keeper punched into the back of our CB's head, with the rebound trickling over the line.. Their third goal came as a result of pushing everyone up top, leaving one CB to deal with two players, but a good strike beat our keeper.

Exiles lucky to go through, a lapse of concentration right at the end cost us dearly. I think that anyone watching that day would definitely agree, even the players!

It wasn't the game I was expecting, much tamer than I thought it would have been. That said, and as I said the last time I wrote a report on this fixture, certain figures at Exiles let the squad down. All in all, a good bunch of lads with the exception of one player and a bunch of sideline warriors!

On a final note, I haven't looked at the way the fixtures pan out, or whether it's drawn at random etc but it would be interesting to see an Exiles/Falmouth fixture, whether that be a final or semi. I Didn't expect Falmouth to beat Mabe if I'm honest, although I'm almost certain it would have been a close game.

Also, well done to Pete etc at Camborne Park for gaining their third successive promotion

PREMIER DIVISION

West Cornwall 1-0 Mawnan

1st against 3rd and a very tight and competitive game.   The first half had few chances with Mawnan hitting the bar from distance and heading over from close range, whilst WC had 2 long range shots tipped over.    The second half was a more open affair, but again chances were at a premium.  Mawnan had a couple of chances cleared off the line but in the end a 25 yard strike 5 minutes from time won it for West Cornwall to keep them well in the title hunt.

Looking like it may go down to 2nd May - West Cornwall v Carharrack for the title decider though plenty of tough games in the meantime.

Lanner 1 - 4 Four Lanes

Personally this was a 6pointer, as we played lanner the previous week. I think both sides can agree that four lanes dominated this game without much trouble. I would hate to think how many shots were put on the Lanner goal. And if it wasn't for their keeper I reckon this would of been a 10 goal deficit to be honest.

Storm 2 v 10 Pendeen Rovers

Pendeen blew Storm away with some clinical finishing. After just 6 mins Pendeen scored twice in a minute, the first goal came from Christian Whittaker a shot across the box eluded everybody and trickled in to the far corner. Less than 30 seconds later a three man move saw Chris Bullock smack the ball in from 187 yards making it 2 - 0. Pendeen were in total control, and added their third goal after 20 mins from Glen Carew. 8 mins later Chris Bullock added his second, Pendeen went in at half time 4 - 0 up.

Second Half

Storm came out a little brighter but it was Pendeen who added their 5th a bizarre 5th goal saw the Storm center half slicing his clearance the ball going backwards a full 18 yards in to the corner of the net, cruel but kind. After that Pendeen started to make some changes, which seemed to unsettle the side. Allowing Storm to their credit, never gave up, scoring twice in 5 mins the first a very hotly disputed penalty, the second was a fine shot. After that Pendeen got back in to their stride.Number 6 came from Jordan Taylor, a well taken shot, 4 mins later, Chris Bullock got his hatrick, another fine shot. Goal of the game came from Sam Battersby a brilliant 25 yard strike. In between this Johnny Watson made 2 fine saves for Pendeen, also Pendeen missed a Penalty. Never the less number 9 came shortly after again another mix up in the Storm defence resorted in OG. In the final min of the game, Chris Bullock got his forth and Pendeen's 10th, a fantastic display from Pendeen all over.

MOM for Pendeen, Luke Jenkin and Chris Bullock.

Unfortunatley did not get the refs name.

Good Luck to Storm for the rest of the season.

Div. 4

Newlyn NA Res. (2) 5 -v- 1 (0) Frogpool Cusgarne Res.

Well, I was looking forward to the Frogpool report of this game, I believe they usually submit one. But it has not materialised, much like their fight-back on Saturday, so I will try to describe the game in a few words. Beautiful day, great conditions, awful pitch surface. Like many at this time of year, the remains of previous "wet/muddy games" was evident, and had not been rolled away. So, a bobbly 90 minutes was on the cards. A fairly even start, both teams prodding forward when they could, trying to pass as opposed to lifting the ball of the surface. Newlyn carved out the better of the early chances, but Frogpool were also pushing, and forced several corners. It was the home side who broke the deadlock, from a corner, probably the shortest player on the pitch, Anton, smashing the ball in from close range. A great header! Or from where I was standing, smashing it in with his face as he failed miserably to get out the way! Anyway, one nil, and Newlyn were now on the front foot. Enjoying the greater possession, but keeping things simple at the back to repel the odd forward pressing by the Frogs, Newlyn soon added a second, with a sublime chip over the keeper after great football to break apart the high-line that Frogpool seemed to be playing. As the half drew to a close, the Frogpool No. 73, (...no idea) got booked for consistent foul play.

Second half, was pretty much the same, quite even. It looked like an unremarkable game really, but snapped to life with a goal from Frogpool following another of their corners. Mix up in the defence as the ball drops to the floor and player smashes in from a tightish angle. They grab the ball and want to get going again. But Newlyn were not rattled, and quickly hit a third goal, restoring the 2 goal advantage. In fact, Newlyn were still creating the best chances, missing one or two very good ones. Then, the red card, for the continuing, pointless fouling, by way of a deserved second yellow. I did not see any complaints from the away team (or did I?). I did witness a congratulant handshake as No. 73 left the pitch. Not sure why. He had just dropped his team-mates in it, 20 mins to go, 2 goals to get, and 10 players against 11. Stupid? Yes. Idiotic? Yes. Deserved to be sent off? Yes. Deserved a congratulation? No, I don't think so. The game gets going again, Newlyn now in control of a ragged opposition, who receive another card, yellow for constant moaning I think, No. 99 (...I know, beats me). Anyway, 2 more goals and well deserved important victory for the home team.

Shame the Frogs never made it back for the food that was laid on for them, I would have had great pleasure explaining the off-side laws to them. Never mind. Good luck to them for their remaining fixtures.

Division 5

Storm Reserves 3-1 Camborne Town

Camborne travelled to the theatre of dreams, Clijah, Redruth.

With the sun shining and the pitch looking in good condition Camborne Town boasted a 10 game unbeaten streak, Storm on the other hand was seeing a 1 game unbeaten streak and sat in the bottom half of the table, some would say this fixture was only heading one way.......

Unfortunately for Camborne Town no one had told Storm Reserves that they needed to roll over and let this team take the points.

The first half saw some missed chances for both sides, Camborne were playing a 4-5-1 formation and this was causing issues in the midfield for Storm, Storm conceded a really poor goal in the 30th minute, when Simon Dawson ran through on goal for the Storm keeper Gareth to save the initial shot but the ball rebounded straight onto Simon's knee and found the back of the net.

Half Time 1-0

Second half Storm recognised the need to change the formation and went to a 4-5-1 to match Camborne and match it certainly did, with Nigel Martyn playing his second game for Storm playing up top alone (no mean feat for a 48 year old) he ran the back line of Camborne to the bones, unfortunately didn't get on the score sheet but really did put the effort in, Four lanes loss is only Storms gain.

it was about 15-20 minutes into the second half when a through ball found Kyle Chilman to be 1-1 with the keeper, calmly slotting it past him.

This only excited the Storm team and they really went for it then and within 10 minutes another through ball found Kyle cutting in from the right wing to score his second and really mount pressure on the Camborne Team.

For the last 20 minutes Camborne decided only a 3-4-3 formation would see them get in the game and it was working until a corner 10 minutes before the end saw two players rise, the Camborne Town player looping a header over the head of his own keeper and into the far corner.

With several chances for both teams in the final 10 it just wasnt to be for Camborne Town who travelled home with nothing to show for their effort.

Great game, referred amazing well by Chris and the sun was finally shining!!

Barker Bowl Cup

Mabe Reserves 3-2 Newbridge Athletic

Confidence was good today after four wins in the last four games Newbridge came into this game knowing that we could make the Semi-finals if they play the way they have been playing and they started very well having a few early chances. Newbridge closed Mabe down giving them very little space on the ball but it was Mabe who did have the best chance to put themselves in front despite Newbridge being the better team.

Mabe player came down the right hand side beating the Newbridge defender, Newbridge keeper Aaron Jones rushed out the box to narrow down the angle of the shot that the Mabe player had. The ball went wide of the post but he clattered into Aaron leaving Aaron on the floor with two cracked ribs, not knowing at the time Aaron got up and carried on with the game.

It was Newbridge who then took the lead, a well placed clearance by Jordan Whaley from a Mabe free-kick went over the top of the Mabe defence and James Tregay ran in to take it past the keeper to give Newbridge the lead 1-0. Aaron was finding his kicking very difficult for the rest of the game due to the pain but it was Aaron's long clearance to which this time put Joe Ashton in to double the lead. Joe did well to put it over the keeper from a tight angle.

The last ten minutes of the half finished fairly even with both teams having opportunities that came to nothing leaving the score 2-0 to Newbridge at half-time.

The second half was the complete opposite for Newbridge and silly mistakes cost them the game. Mabe were by far the better side for most of the second half and they got a goal back from a free-kick, their one of many free-kicks that Newbridge gave away in the second half. The free-kick beat the wall and Aaron came out to catch it but it was out of his reach and it flew into the top corner, which may have been stopped if Aaron stayed on his line rather than coming to catch.

Mabe continued their pressure on the away side still chasing the game they managed to level it. After a succession of corners that came to nothing. Newbridge were getting frustrated by the player on the keeper who was overly aggressive but the ref said on two or three occasions that he couldn't watch what was going with him there was 22 players he had to keep his eye on. They managed to get another free-kick on the edge of box. Which again they scored, the ball went round the wall but was cleared away to a Mabe player only to be fired back in and it bobbled in the box and went over the Newbridge keeper who once again should have stopped it easy.

Newbridge had a few chances that came very close to putting themselves back infront but were unable to regain the lead. With a few minutes left Mabe managed to score again the Mabe player went through, his effort was well saved by Aaron but he turned in the rebound from the tight angle with Aaron unable to get a hand to it. A poor second half from Newbridge and the whole team were gutted that we lost the tie having had the 2-0 lead at half-time but we will put this game behind us and move onto next week.

Presuming you were the linesman I am sure you would have botched explaining the off-side laws just as you did enforcing them on Saturday.

Despite that, I'm not bitter as Newlyn deserved the victory. We were poor on the day and the home side clearly wanted it more.

Apologies that you did not get the write up you wanted, I was left rather frustrated on all fronts after the game and didn't exactly feel like doing my usual write up.

That's not very nice Mr Tempo (correct, I was running the line), implying I would botch my explanation of a perfectly correct off-side decision. I reckon my explanation would make perfect sense. Do you know that I sympathise with the view of the Frogs pertaining to the decision in question? It did look odd. But I did not write the laws of the game. Your player was standing about 2 to 3 yards offside when the ball was played, that is the crucial point to note. It was a long ball (from the keeper), and whilst in the air, your player had returned to an onside position. He followed the trajectory of the ball and made his way towards it. In all honesty, I did not think he would get there before our defender, but he did. Now when you and your teammates were watching him run towards the ball, from what clearly looked like an onside position, I can imagine your disbelief and annoyance when you saw the flag raised when he got the ball. I immediately started my explanation to your manager, as I knew this would probably be questioned, and he was already giving me an expletive filled holler describing his opinion and looked in serious danger of blowing a blood vessel. I told him I would offer my explanation when he had calmed down, but he did not calm down. So your guy was offside. Mr Tempo, think about it for a moment. I ran the line for a large portion of the game (both halves). Not one other decision questioned. Hardly any offsides in actual fact, but clearly no cheating or funny business.  This incident was when your player gained possession of the ball on the left hand touch line, halfway inside the Newlyn half, with 2 Newlyn players in close proximity, central defenders in position, no threat on goal, etc etc. There would be no point in raising the flag for offside unless, you guessed it, it was offside. Which it was. I do not cheat. I make mistakes. But if my interpretation of the laws of the game are correct, I did not make a mistake on this occasion. I hope you choose to take this explanation in the way it is intended, an honest explanation to tell you what actually happened.

Spot on mangle, that happens very often in a game, its not when he receives the ball but where he was when it was played forward.

Unless you're running the line, and in line,  which means not watching or playing, you have no chance of calling an offside correctly.

Remember also, that the lino does not dis-allow the goal, the referee does, based on what he or she is told, They also give the goal after over ruling the lino....it cuts both ways.

Correct Older. I was in line when the ball was kicked. Doing my job. I have been trying to imagine what would have happened if I had raised the flag immediately? Probably a similar situation (accusations of "he wasn't interfering" and so on...). The thing is, the ball bounced, it was not challenged as a header, as would be normal from a goal kick. The ball went to one side, not central, and bounced. No players challenging, just "movement" from several non committed players I guess. If I had flagged early, I suppose there would have been a chance that someone would have realised why the flag went up. BUT, from where I was, it really did not look as though this player would be getting the ball first (the play was going to the touch line on the other side of the pitch to me). Hence, I never had a thought to even raise the bleddy flag. It was only as he was getting closer to the ball, and finally reached it that I knew I had to flag. One of our players also appealed, which I found quite impressive at the time, thinking that he had followed this 5 or 6 second passage of play as closely as me as well as concentrating on his game. However, once in the changing room, I found that he had no idea how the offside had actually occurred! He just thought he may have been offside!?! Slightly confusing as he was appearing to move towards the ball from an onside position (if you had been ball-watching). But he did follow my explanation.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well you can't write a patronising match report and not expect a shot fired back. This was weeks ago anyway, and I don't hold anything against you for it. I still think you were wrong but like you said, it was one decision, what does it matter? Even if you were wrong I know you would not have done it on purpose. Even if I am wrong, it's just an opinion.
