Any young talent caught the eye !!

Recommended Posts

Well considering Truro Reserves enticed many of the best young players from around the county to join them, they should be impressive. Saw them twice in PSFs. Pleasant on the eye but don’t think many, if any, will get much game time with the 1st team. Had an informative chat with the father of the goalie, previously at Sticker, but got the impression this was a bit of a leap in the dark for these young players. Expect many of them will be sent packing at season end. Many have expressed reservations about a Truro reserve side as they have messed the leagues around too many times. 6 points from 4 games, hmmm.

To the uninitiated, Truro appeared to dangle the possibility of moving up the footballing ladder as a reason for joinlng the club
As stated on another thread,a clubs youth team will always be a source of potential talent that could be included in a first team enviroment.
Truro at present play at the highest level of football in Cornwall, but its clubs who have nutured players from an early age, ( 6-7 years old  ) that will stand a much better chance of finding a gem in their midst.
Assembling a team of young men/teenagers to represent your club, will give you no better chance of finding that gem than any other team, and loyalty to a club has seldom had time to develop.
Marcus Rashford who lives and breathes Man Utd, came through the junior ranks and will always be an example of what is possible if you have a talent that can be developed.
It's an unfortunate fact that there are only a few ( Jamie Vardy is one ) who can make a grade capable of earning them a comfortable living.
If you haven't been noticed by your mid teens, progress becomes a bit of a struggle.

Team was not enticed from around the county, they've played together for a few years under Perranwell. This was a step to challenge the boys. Playing in DJM was a challenge, at 16 years old they won league against 2nd year teams in the DJM U18 league. Why do that again, next challenge adults football. Something many in Cornwall football community wanted to stop. 6 points from 4 games, learning from every single game!! Its fine having one or 2 16/17 yr olds amongst seasoned adults, this team is full of youngster, well coached, eager to learn and supported by the TCFC from the top. Many of the boys have played for the 1st team, some on a regular basis. Does every man utd youngster expect to play in the 1st team....... no, but they're afforded the opportunity to and arguably a better product than one coming through another teams academy. This is no different, will this team become the 1st team? No. Will they learn from the experience? Yes. Many of these boys have been offered money to play elsewhere, some have gone, some may go in the future but at the moment they are willing to learn and try. Offer many players in local football 50p more and they're gone. These boys are being discriminated against jfor decisions and actions taken by people before any of them where born. The original thread talks of the standard within the SWPL declining, why bitch on about an organisation trying to improve that?

Good post original question ref decline, how many kids do you see playing football, you can say they have everything now coaching and the best 3/4 g facilities, but apart from training nights (1 hour ) how many kids are playing football on the street in the park none and if they are chances are the neighbours are moaning . Yep standards are massively in decline but tell e what 18-20 year olds  are ace on the PlayStation .

In the interests of actually having a discussion based on the topic title rather than just slagging off Truro…

The young lad Edmonson at Sticker Res has the potential to step up in the future, Finn at Callington in the SWPL is a superb prospect and should already be at a better club than Callington.

Launceston Res also have a young lad Shae Cardiff who looks to have a bright future too

The only possible issue with being at a better club is that he might not then get the game time! It’s good to see the lad playing and learning the game on the pitch rather than watching it from the touch line!

Agree, to clarify though, I meant a better club in terms of conduct and a better group of players to learn from rather than a bigger club in terms of league position

The leagues and clubs are full of talented youngsters … some clubs are better at nurturing and developing their youth, others just collect talent to sit on the bench…

The Transition from youth to men’s football is a no mans land, senior clubs not interested until the kids are of value to them… The Kernow league U18s is a waste of time…

CCFA need a countywide U21s development league …

Fair play to Truro for trying to do something proactive …

Helston also have a proven youth pathway that’s working …

The standard of the SWPL has dropped as it’s the same old same doing the follow the money circuit..,

Discussion is about the St Piran, not the strength of the SWPL. Having said that Liskeard, Camelford and Wadebridge are near the top of the table, they haven't got the "same old players following the money circuit." Would be very interesting to hear of other new faces (besides those already mentioned) that could make the step up. Understand that part of Jack Greenwood's brief at Mousehole is to keep an eye on the local scene and unearth potential gems.

Henry Bunning at Saltash Borough
Cameron Mahoney at Millbrook Res
Keiran Ryall at St Dom
Harrie Tilston at St Mawgan (no idea how old he is but never seen him around until recently)

Would think that one or two SWPL sides would have had a look at St Dom's Kieran Ryall.

Agreed. I too, have seen Finn a number of times this year. He was fantastic against Tiverton in pre-season. I would disagree with the comment of the Calli team changing, much the same from the start of the season?

There is a young lad at Parkway at the moment called Dylan Jones who I'm told has been released from Exeter who could be a real talent.
