St Blazey v Gillingham Town F.A Vase 1st Round

Recommended Posts

F.A Vase 1st Round Proper.

St Blazey v Gillingham town.

Come and support the green and blacks as they look to build on a good start the season including Wednesdays 7v1 thumping of title holders Plymouth Parkway. St Blazey must feel confident going into this match after some good performances of late.

St Blazey have never played Gillingham Town in any competition.

The Bar will be open all day and Newcastle v Liverpool will be live leading up to kick off. :drink:

Come and support your local side.

St Blazey 4v1 Gillingham Town

Another good afternoon for St Blazey who found themselves 3v0 up at half time. Another good strike from Coombes to set St Blazey on there way. Broomfield added a second with a curling effort. Seb starting to show some good form at the moment. Daw added a third before half time. Gillingham were given hope with a classic own goal as our defender knocked it past the out coming keeper. St Blazey then made hard work of things for a while but the excellent Spear kept finding space and eventually a good ball out wide to his brother who crossed back to Arron Spear to knock it back to the incoming Coombes to seal the tie and grab St Blazeys 4th of the afternoon.

Just a note on Arron Spear, he plays his football for a club in Iceland. David James the Ex Engand goalkeeper has also played for this club. Arron as also played 3 matches in the Europa league. Is Arron the first player to play for a Cornish side who has played European football? Maybe Mike Odgers will know.

So the draw on Monday will be something to look forward to. As Bruegel has said, we dont want to draw Snozzle or any other SWPL side. Being in the Vase is all about playing sides you dont ever get to play. Plus we need a bigger challenge!!! :P Save em for the final!!

Att 86. Not the best crowd but with supporters floating about at Bodmin and St Austell and all but no away support from Gillingham, it wasnt a surprize.

St Blazey v Camelford next Saturday.

Paul Hampshire played for Raith Rovers in the Uefa Cup. Newquay also had a Nigerian/Lithuanian who play Champions League Qualifiers for VK Villnius, he turned out once but cant tell you what league we were in, might be old SWL.

Well done Blazey, hope you get Gt Yatmouth Town away.

You can understand it being a north south devide. It would be nice to avoid any club in your own league but that's probably impossible.

The good news of a run like this is the prize money. £2300 in the bag already. A club in SWP league would need to win the league to win that sort of money.

The £2300 does not take into account the shared loss as the home team is liable to partially fund the away travel.

If you are drawn home or away and the travel means either you or they have to leave before a certain time then the over night stay rule is triggered. Also the cost of the officials is more based on match fees and travel as you progress through the competition also at one point a fourth official is a requirement.

As you progress Paul the chance of drawing another team from your own league grows. If you think about it, as there are less teams I.e 256 down to 128 down to 64 etc. and the draw is still regionalised St Blazeys chance of drawing St Austell, Bodmin or Parkway becomes much greater.

There are already less "local" teams as representatives from the Western league and Wessex league are knocked out. Lets stay in the competition until it goes national and have a nice away day like Crook a few years back.

The futures bright the futures green and black!!

So in your experience, purely as far as the finances go, is it better to be home or away?

Dave, the issue of cost depends on the average gate of the team if away. If you draw a club from around Birmingham then you need two coach drivers if you travel up and back on the same day. Travelling and staying overnight is expensive as not all the supporters will travel and stay. With good sponsors a home draw is better if overnight costs are involved

Yeah it was a decent performance, particularly the first half. I felt Blazey had a bit in reserve if needed and, other than the spell around the own goal in the second half, Blazey were always in control.

This season is beginning to look quite a bit brighter than many of our recent ones. In the terraces we're beginning to talk about a top 6 finish and a cup run. Most of this team have stuck around for a couple of seasons now and seem really settled.

The question of expenses etc depends on which FA Competition a club may be playing in, there is a need to consult the rules of the competition being played, in, the Women's FA Cup the home team keeps the gate money but the visiting team pays their own travel expenses. It is possible (or not) the rules for the FA Cup, FA Trophy and the FA Vase may differ.

Homework for someone - But not me :yahoo:

SSS can come out of hiding, Spurs have just gone 2-1 up.

The FA Cup and FA Vase it is a shared loss (or profit oh how I laugh) you take the cost of the officials and add the travel - you then deduct the money from the gate. The home club keeps the raffle and food et al the away team keeps the money from spectators on the coach.

You will make money on the first two rounds and anything past the last 16 - anything else you are on a loser without a team that is less than a hundred miles away

Either way, it's all about the excitement of a cup run. Look forward to finding out the draw today.

Hi Paul

I dont know if you are just a supporter of Blazey or involved in the running of the club, but do you know how long the international clearnce took for Aaron when he returned from playing in Iceland? I ask because we (Buckland) have a lad back from playing a season in Sweden and it would be nice to have him availble this weekend if poss!

Cheers, Adam

Re: Overseas players.

Might be worth asking the Secs/Chairmen/women of Godolphin who have Danny Carne returning from Sweden right now and Newquay who get Lewis Hilton back from the USA whenever he returns home from his studies. The SWPL site has the list of names and email addresses.

Re: Bodmin v St Blazey, tough luck lads, hardly a big day out, at least neither club will lose any money on the day, get a win against a failing Bodmin and who knows, you may get a good trip upcountry.
