St Columb Maj 2-5 Wadebridge Town Res

St Columb took a early 1-0 lead arguably against the run of play as Wadebridge started fast out of the blocks. Wadebridge passing the ball around like the way football should be played and scored 3 goals to take a 3-1 lead in to the break. St Columb pulled 1 back after half time, but Wadebridge weren't rattled and scored 3 more to win comfortably this afternoon. Wadebridge are a very impressive young side and will cause many sides problems.

Boscastle 2-2 Torpoint AFC 3rds

Always love the first game of the season, my own plans slightly altered as I wasn't on the sideline but in attendance as a spectator today. After a mixed pre-season, we were unsure what to expect with Boscastle being newcomers to the League and a much changed side for ourselves from last season.

The game started frantically out of the gate, some overplaying from Mills and Carter allowed the hosts the first opportunity which was fired wide. Immediately after, we were in at the other end but to be stopped twice by the keeper with a superb double save. Outstanding reactions, he would've wanted that on film. Once the game settled, Ross was quickly substituted due to injury. Not discouraged, we started to take control with Heron controlling the pace from deep. With pressure building, we were unable to take advantage until the 40th minute. After some careful build-up, Robbins found Franklin inside the area to slot home. 6 minutes later, a cross field ball found Copp who drove his shot low, the rebound bounced for Franklin to header goalwards. With the shot blocked with a hand, the man in the middle pointed to the spot but with the club assistant waiving on the far side that the ball had crossed the line, we entered HT 2-0 to the good.

For the hard work and dominance of the first half, the same was needed to hold onto the 3 points. Boscastle, through their 11 and 9 were causing problems to the Torpoint back line. With Bray called into action on multiple occasions it was backs against the wall to hold the 2 goal advantage. A little defensive naivety, meant we dropped to invite more pressure instead of sticking to what had gone well in the opening period. After 80 mins a good reaction save, Bray attempted to roll quickly to Mills who was pounced upon and the hosts put home to get back into the game. We had a chance to end the game with Cowd put through but he was unable to convert. With almost the last throw of the dice, Boscastle played forward and when we were unable to deal with the initial threat, the ball dropped inside the area for the game to be made 2-2.

So many positives to take from the game and especially the first half. However, the important work will be built off of a poor second half performance. There was a 90 second period in the second half where I think 5 or 6 yellows were issued, a little ill discipline from both sides.

I said it a few years ago at Boscastle but it is a nice set up and glad to see them in Div1.

St Pirans division 1 West.

St Agnes 0-5 Threemilestone

A decent showing from Threemilestone in their 1st ever game at this level. We started well & went in 2-0 up at the break despite missing many great chances. We worried that those misses would come back to haunt us but that wasn't the case as we started the 2nd half brilliantly & were 4-0 within 10 minutes of the restart. Credit to St Agnes who never gave up & kept battling right to the end. Tms were good value for the 5-0 win & played some great football.

Goalscorers - Jamie Shaw, Harry Pope, Chris Brown x2, Alex Hayhoe.

Illogan 3 -3 penryn. How the home side didn’t put this to bed will probably haunt them for a while. Their aggressive forwards failed to make the most of the Opportunities they had, penryn fairly toothless for the first 50 minutes. The stand in manager Jarvo lucky to be still on the sidelines. A few questionable tackles from both sides, lots of shall we say communication from Tom Hogarth, and just a few elbows from Ellis, ended in a fairly lacklustre encounter ending in a 3-3 draw. Illogan should feel aggrieved as they should have taken their chances and won.

Porthleven 2-2 St Day

Lovely sunny afternoon down at Gala Park with a decent sized crowd who were treated to a good competitive end to end match played in good spirits. St Day led twice only for the young home side to battle back and eventually share a deserved point each.

on a side note good to see Kev Richards looking well and on the mend,  sporting a beard that looked so biblical he might challenge Charlton Heston for his next role making the sea part in order for all the tourists to get across to St Michaels Mount at high tide and buy a fridge magnet 😁

Saturday 26th August 2023
Foxhole 7 (Kilbey 18, 43, Reed-Bennett 53, Bould 56, Rowe 65, 80, 89) St Stephen 1 (James 60)

Solomon could have put the visitors ahead when racing clear after sixteen minutes, but he was unable to beat James Prynn, who saved well with his legs. Within seconds, Charlie Prynn's defensive header had released Kilbey to cleverly lob Julian from the edge of the box, from which time there was only going to be one winner. Allen's early withdrawal following a clash of heads with James led to a mass reshuffle which included Smith-Brokenshire occupying a more central role and Reed-Bennett switching antipodally from outside-left to right-back as the Foxes turned the screw. Numerous chances were spurned, most notably by Damerell, Beresford and Rowe, whose fierce free-kick was also brilliantly tipped away, before Kilbey was rewarded for his anticipation by tapping home Bould's mis-hit shot.

Foxhole at last found their shooting boots after the break. Reed-Bennett capitalised on Julian's misplaced pass to fire into an unguarded net from thirty yards before Smith-Brokenshire's centre was converted by Bould for his first of the season. Davis' left-wing corner was bravely headed in by James for a visiting consolation on the hour, but Rowe soon made it 5-1 when volleying Manning's low cross into the net. Another Charlie Prynn assist released Rowe to finish well with his left foot, the same player completing his hat-trick at the death by ramming home after Julian had parried Bould's stinger.

Foxhole (4-3-3): James Prynn; Luke Damerell, Zach Smith-Brokenshire, Charlie Prynn, Angel Coates; Aaron Beresford, Jake Couch, Nathan Allen; Benno Bould, Chris Kilbey, Lee Reed-Bennett. Subs: Courtney Rowe, Josh Small, Jay Manning.

St Stephen (4-5-1): Andrew Julian; Lucas Carter, Josh Davis, Hayden Doherty, Kieran Ralph; Josh Jacobs, Conner Dean, Tarun Rowland, Glyn James, Scott Taylor; Adam Solomon. Sub: Jon Doherty.

Well played the super Foxes. Good luck to St Stephen. Many thanks to Dave Rowe and Ian Trevenna.

Next up....
Saturday 2nd September Foxhole reserves v Bude reserves 3pm
Saturday 9th September Foxhole v Wadebridge reserves 3pm

North Petherwin 3 v 2 Gunnislake

North Petherwin Goal Scorers: Cartwright 6; Pennington 45 +5; Sanders 52

Attendance: 56

Petherwin secured back to back wins with a 3-2 victory over a new look and improving Gunnislake team which was well refereed by Bryan Holden.

The game started quickly and we took advantage of a lapse in concentration from the Gunnislake defence and keeper. A high ball was played into Ben Sharpe who managed to get his chest and chin onto it to bring it down this led to huge appeals for handball from the away defence and with Guni switching off Cartwright shot from 30 yards which sailed high into the middle of the goal with the keeper stranded.

From here the game was end to end with both teams having chances and it was Guni who got the next goal with the impressive Ryan Smale carrying the ball down the left cutting in on the edge of the box and firing his shot home to equalize in the 18th minute. Guni grew in confidence with Daryl Panter getting in behind down the left on multiple ocassions but end product was lacking. In the 39th minute Guni should have taken the lead, Panter again got in down the left and took it around the onrushing home keeper Coles but to everyone's amazement he embarrassingly threw himself to the floor to only win his team the first yellow card. Good refing from Holden here.  This got tensions up and the game became a bit spicy for the remaining 10mins, with an incident in front of the dugouts which again was well refed. In the last minute of added on time we had multiple calls for a penalty within seconds. With the ball played into the box Sanders got there before the away keeper and was clipped as he drifted away from goal, despite appeals he picked himself up quickly and crossed the ball in to the back post which ended up finding Mcginnes who was then poleaxed by the away defender and a pen was awarded. Pennington stepped up and drilled home the penalty to give us a fortunate 2-1 lead.

Second half we started brightly and got another early goal. After some neat play we found Stott who put in a superb curling ball from 25 yards which found Sanders in the 6 yard box to head home and get his 3rd goal in 2 games. From here we largely dominated the second half and kept the ball very well and defended superbly. Against the run of play with 15 to go Guni fortunately pulled one back. A long hopeful ball forward into our half bounced between the away attacker and our defender Farrer. Farrer went to head the ball with the Guni striker choosing to lead with his foot and came out on top and went through to score. I personally think this was dangerous play but the goal stood and probably the only key decision Holden got wrong. From here Guni went direct for the last 15mins but we stood strong and defended well to see the game out for 3 more vital points.

Again i thought Holden refereed well. Credit goes out to the Guni management team and Browner. They have lost a lot of players with the Callington change but have built a tough and hard to beat team there. Wish them all the best for the season.
