A good little crowd were well entertained this afternoon as St Teath battled from three down to come back and win 4-3. Torpoint started the game well and took an early 1-0 lead through a penalty. The second came moments before half time when the Torpoint midfielder ran through the St Teath midfield and slotted home his finish 0-2. Early on in the second half and Torpoint had their third, game over surely... or not. Moments later St Teath grabbed a consolation goal when Elson tapped in after an Edwards shot 1-3. St Teath kept battling and got their second when Edwards scored in off the post 2-3. The equaliser came towards the end of normal time when a Burden corner fell to Brown who atoned for his earlier penalty miss with a fine finish 3-3. Onto extra time, both teams were very “leggy” and St Teath were kept in the game by Thompson in goal who was my man of the match, making some crucial saves in the extra time period. St Teath always looked deadly on the counter and when the ball fell to Edwards there was only one result, he slotted the ball home from range to complete the comeback 4-3. St Teath weren’t always on top in this game but no one can fault their effort and desire to dig in for the result. Good little cup upset. St Newlyn East AFC Posted September 25, 2021 Report Share Posted September 25, 2021 St Newlyn East 4-6 Saltash. Borough Newlyn started well and were all over Saltash for the opening 10-15 mins and deservedly went ahead with a great finish from Ross London. The remainder of the half was pretty even but Newlyn made some bad errors as despite wanting to make Saltash earn anything they won before we started, Newlyn then “rolled out the red carpet” and gifted them 4 goals (inc a pen) to go in 1-4 down at the break. Another penalty conceded within 2 mins of the restart increased Saltash’s lead but Newlyn came back with two well taken goals from Dan Parsonage and Ross London to reduce the arrears to 2 goals before a Saltash free-kick was saved by our keeper onto the cross bar, bounced back down, hit our keeper’s back and went in for an own goal. A late Newlyn penalty ended the scoring on a frustrating afternoon for the home side. Good luck to Saltash for their season and in the next round of the Cup. The visitors scored three times in the final 10 minutes of the first half and twice more in the first 20 minutes of the second to cruise into the second round.
