Perranporth 5 Mousehole Reserves 2

Bit of a topsy-turvy game, this. Perran went into a 3 - 0 lead in the 1st 10 minutes. Matt Roberts in the 2nd, a header off a right wing corner; a close-range shot by Luke Wort (7) and then Gavin Boon on 10. It was all Perran and Mousehole managed their 1st shot on goal in the 45th minute.

Within 7 minutes of the restart it was 3 - 2 (J. J. Simmons on 48 with a shot from distance that turned in the air and deceived the home 'keeper, then a long-ranged looping header (did he mean it?) from Joe Davies on 52. Perran went to pieces a bit and Perran threatened an equaliser and at the hour stage it would have been deserved. Perran clawed their way back, though, Terry Campbell my MOTM, and on 70 Reece Allen scored to settle Perran's nerves. After that Perran re-asserted themselves and the Mousehole 'keeper was forced into some excellent saves but couldn't prevent Wort in the 83rd minute making it 5.

A rip-roaring game, redolent of the Combo of 40 years ago: lots of talent on show from two determined sides playing in a very sporting manner. Two competent club linesmen, well reffed.. I'm quite taken by this league after watching only 2 games. Planning to go to Perranwell Tuesday, though am doubtful about the light!

Nice seeing Glen Mather again, a real club stalwart. Tea £1, pasties and sausage rolls on sale, too. Pleasant afternoon.

St Dennis 4 v callington 3

A well played game in good conditions saw us record our 1st win in senior football both teams had chances n I thought Cally were going to get an equaliser late on luckily for us they didn't lol some good goals scored by both teams unsure of Cally's scorers but their number 10 had a peach of a goal! Our striker Joe orchard had an equally impressive free kick from distance which ended in the net leaving their keeper no chance, our other goals were by the evergreen Neil white his brother Keith and  by jay Warner who intercepted a pass between Cally's defenders to break away round the keeper n finish.well reffed who had the game in control from start to finish.

Good luck to Cally for their season great bunch of lads that like to play football in the correct manner.

PENRYN   (1)  5     Ryan Reeve 39’ 82’  Jack Rapsey 49’  Harry Roberts 70’  Bradley Leivers 73’

HELSTON  (0)  1    Joe Wright 57’

ATT:  76

REF: Mr Alan Hoon  9/10  Good.

MOM: Ryan Reeve (Penryn)

A convincing win for the early league leaders to make it 4 wins in a row but the Blues made them work hard for it for the first 70 minutes at least. The hosts pressure forced 9 first half corners and a further 8 after the break and their first 4 goals were all headers! Penryn got off to a dominant start with Bradley Leivers half volley striking the side netting in the 7th minute and 9 minutes later his snap shot fizzed just past the post. Leivers and Jack Rapsey worked a lovely one-two on the left with it ending with Rapsey’s low drive being well held by Helstons experienced keeper Bryan Scoffin in the 25th minute. The pacy Ryan Reeve whipped a cross in from the right which Rapsey volleyed wide from ten yards at full stretch on his left foot on 31 minutes. A Harry Roberts corner on 36 minutes was unluckily headed against the inside of the post by Jake Shaw at the far post with Reeve blasting the rebound past the same post. 6 minutes before the break the hard working Roberts chased a ball into the corner and crossed to the far post where Reeve got in between two defenders to head down into the net. 3 minutes before the break a great cross by right winger Reggie May saw Reeve volley wide of the far post. Whatever talented young manager Harry Pope said to his players at half time worked as the second half was only 4 minutes old when yet another Roberts corner was drilled to the far post where Rapsey slipped his marker off his shoulder to head strongly home from 5 yards. Reggie May shot into the side netting two minutes later with a couple of players in better positions before the visitors had their best spell of the game on 55 minutes when Josh Gilbert In for injured keeper Ben Mitchell pulled off a good reflex save before being beaten by half time substitute Joe Wright who shot into the far corner to spark the blues best spell of the game for Helston. After a bit of nip and tuck at either end the all important third goal came on 70 minutes when a well struck Keegan Mcphilbin strike was superbly beaten out by Scoffin but fell perfectly to Roberts who headed back into the net from 10 yards. It looked like Roberts was fouled in the area (which Helston manager Barry Hennessy running the line agreed with as well) but it mattered little as referee Mr Alan Hoon played some good advantage decisions all afternoon decided not to award it but the ball ran loose to Reggie May who clipped a lovely cross to the far post where Leivers came steaming in to dive header home in style. Rapsey slipped a great ball through to the overlapping Shaw on the right who hit a strong shot which was well saved low down by Scoffin. Penryn this time rampant down the left saw a Leivers cross headed back across goal by Reggie May and the predatory Reeve was on hand to lash home from close range to see him just nick the man of the match award amongst many other fine performers in a red and black shirt on the day. A pinpoint through ball by Luke Osborne saw Billy Williams clear on the left and he did really well to cut the ball back to impressive skipper Russell May up from the back but he volleyed just wide from 15 yards. 3 minutes from time Reeve raced clear of the defence on the left and cut in but my old mate Scoffy yet again did well to save the effort with his feet. Reeve and Rapsey then combined again on the edge of the area but Rapsey’s curling shot was deflected just wide of the far post in the last minute as Penryn ripped through the Blues overworked defence. Helston were glad to hear the final whistle but I’ve a feeling they won’t be bottom of the table for too long after already playing Perranporth and Penryn away in their difficult start to the season. As for the league leaders it’s a difficult trip up the road to Perranwell on Tuesday night hoping to maintain the leagues only 100% record after Mullions 0-1 home defeat to Hayle today. Agree with Toms earlier post on the Perran game, seen some really good games so far in the St.Piran league, long may it continue. Good to see Mr Steve Carpenter at the game today whose hard work during the summer made sure the league has got off to a great start. The only downside is I’ve just checked the fixtures and I’m in New York for Penryn v Perranporth on 12th October!!! 😳🙄☹️ Steve if you’re reading this and fancy a fixture change!!??? 😀👍

Glen was a mean darts player in his day.  AKA Beaker.  Could handle a beer  or seven at the Wreckers. 😆😂

Gunna take some beating this ryn team. Great performance from stand in goal keeper Gilbert. Can see why he plays in higher leagues 😃

Haha thanks Keith, he was out injured all last season so its good to see him back playing and he’s loving it playing with his mates. 👍 He got 13 in 7 games pre season and he’s on 4 in 4 in the league so far but he likes dropping in and setting goals up as well Keith, I was never too interested in that mate!! 😁 This Penryn team are a pleasure to watch, I’ll be gutted when I have to miss a few games soon. Shame about St.Just Keith, great old club, maybe they’ll come back stronger in the long run hopefully  👍

Agreed Townfan09 Penryn have had a great start to the season. Hopefully the Senior Cup will give them the chance to test themselves against higher league opposition.

I’ve missed the last few rounds of matches due to a family holiday but the St Piran league East is starting to take shape nicely I see. Not surprised to see St Austell top of the pile even at this early stage of the season. St Mawgan continuing to impress, sitting second in the league after a good win away at Torpoint. Looks like a long season ahead for a few clubs at the bottom though. And as stated above in the West, Penryn having a storming start to the season. Only good signs from the new step 7 in my opinion!
