North Petherwin 1 St Dom 4

It’s been a summer with probably our most end of season/pre season changes for several seasons since our last time out in the cup final on the playing front. With 3 debuts and some returning players making up the first match day squad of the season.

In conditions, pretty atrocious for football despite an immaculate pitch, as storm Antoni swept across the county we battled hard to come away from North Petherwin with the points, in their first outing since being promoted.

Playing with the wind and down the slope in the first 45, we took an early lead when the returning Pete Styring got on the end of a long throw to finish. Predictably with the wind we had the lions share of possession but didn’t force the home keeper in to much save wise, then, just before half time we struck twice in quick succession. Harvey Barrett’s knock into a dangerous area was well finished by another Styring, John Styring arriving at the back post. Very quickly after, Toby Morgan crossed from the right hand side allowing Pete to convert again, from 8 yards out to give us a much needed 3 goal advantage at the break.

We did let North Petherwin back in at the start of the second half, a clearance ricocheted in to the path of the Petherwin player who hammered home for 3-1. After that Petherwin had similar difficulties with the gale behind to really control the weight of pass going forward as we looked dangerous on the break, with man of the match Alex Jacob a constant threat from midfield. It was new signing, Francis Roy-Pengelly on debut who secured the points - a mazy run off the left before getting his shot away, the keeper got a hand but the ball, against the wind, had enough momentum to find the net. A good reward for a hard working display from himself and the team as a whole.

Good luck to north petherwin, will be a tough place to go for a lot of teams!

Many thanks. Trying to do what I did for the combo site, get the attendances for every game. It's the only thing I can't get off full time.

It's an education thing Paul.  The attendance function is enabled in Full-Time, it's getting clubs to use it.  Polperro attendance for example (sorry Matt) has been entered as 0.

North Petherwin 1 v 4 St Dominick

Attendance 46

Difficult first game for the Badgers on their first outing in this level of football after back to back promotions. The horrendous weather really spoiled the game for both teams and was amazed so many braved to come and watch.

Petherwin were against the wind in the first half and fell behind after 5mins after a long wind assisted throw found its way to the St Dom CF who tucked away. From here I thought we really defended well keeping St Dom to minimal efforts and had to defend many long balls into the box as they tried to use the wind to their advantage. We did well to play out the back and got forward a number of times and had a few chances to score which we should have converted at least 1.

The HT team talk was all set and then we basically lost the game in 5 of the 7 minutes of added on time. The first of those coming from an excellent delivery from the St dom CB which found a st dom shirt at the back post to put 2 up, leaving me very frustrated the cross wasn't cut off from the throw in.  The third i think was very fortunate as was clearly handball in the build up for a similar offence we got penalized just 5 mins before but with the ref not seeing the player took advantage and fed the big striker to get his second of the game. We should have defended that better regardless of the decision. So from being in positive position of 1-0 down with the wind in the 2H we have gave ourselves a massive task against a well established team.

Second half we started so brightly and got a goal back through Owen Pennington with a fine powerful strike giving Blatchford no chance, we kept knocking on the door but as St doms found playing with the wind was even hard and they looked dangerous on the counter. We should have made it 3-2 when a fine ball was put across for Pennington to convert at the back post but he could only find the side netting. I felt around the 60-70mins we really had them rattled which got to their lb who on another day could have seen red for an altercation and was quickly subbed by the away team being on a yellow. As we continued to press and go for it, we were caught on the counter attack by the tricky left winger who will be a handful for most teams, great feet and is also quick. He picked up on the half way line and went on a giggs type run scoring to make 4-1 and killing any hopes we had of getting back into the game.

On the whole i think we matched St Dom for large spells, was really disappointed with that 5 minutes which cost us however St Dom are a good side and will be there or there abouts again this season and hopefully that 5 mins spell in a valuable lesson for my lads at this standard.

Was good to see so many of them coming back to the pub after including the supporters, we wish them luck for the season!
