Decided to Stopping officiating

I have decided after quite a bit of soul searching due to an ongoing injury,  it's time to stop officiating for the foreseeable future,  I have been advised by my specialist it would be beneficial to do so . I have been officiating in Cornwall for nearly over 30 seasons and believe it or not have enjoyed every second . I know there will be a few who will be glad to see me stop , I would like to thank everyone and I mean everyone who I have had the pleasure to officiate,  met or just bumped into in my career as a referee.  I will miss you all in some small way . Thank you all

Kindest regards Ian Spurling.

Thank you for all the refereeing you’ve done over the years Ian. Unfortunately I’ve not seen you for a few years now because Probus moved west, but whenever we had you as ref, you did a great job, we had some banter and you always refereed with a smile on your face. It will be a sad loss to football without you in the middle anymore, but I think you’ve more than earned your rest! Truly one of the top men in the middle (and a gentleman off it too) that I’ve had the pleasure of being on the pitch with.
Thanks for everything you’ve done and hopefully see you at a game sometime soon.

Ian, I hope you will stay involved within the game. Someone with your experience is exactly what the game needs when bringing new faces into the refs circuit. We are so desperately short of refs but your injury should be just a stepping stone to mentoring those lacking your experience.

I have been asked about mentoring and observing and will give it ago .

Hopefully see you on the touchline watching one of my games mate, always glad of some tips from someone who also had the misfortune to ref me before I took up the whistle!! 😂 Take care ......Bry.

What a coincidence Ian , two weeks ago I had to make the same decision. 47 years very difficult decision to have to make.

The same comments I made above about Ian apply to you Mr Manning. You will be a big miss to the game.

I hope you both are able to stay involved in the game some way and mentoring others, using your vast experience is a good way of doing so I would think.
