Division 3

St Buryan Reserves 0-3 Frogpool Reserves

Great team performance, resilient and strong through out.

First goal came after an Ashley Johnson cross was spilled by the goalkeeper for Aaron Coveney to tuck home. The second came after Craig Rothwell was fouled from a corner, before Sam Bromley tucked away the resulting penalty. Sam Macwilliam’s hard work and excellent performance was cut short through injury.

His replacement up top, Harry Payne, scored a delightful half volley from twenty yards out, Alex Prynn getting the assist after some fantastic distribution.

Tom Campbell and Lewis Bax did an excellent job of marshalling the defence as well but the man of the match was Charlie Martin who was tireless throughout, winning the ball back well and holding possession fantastically. Also unlucky not to score.

Excellently refereed by Adam Martin.

Thank you St Buryan for the hospitality too!

I was right!

The last goal was not given as Praze were off-side. I texted full-time with 5-3 which was put up originally but somehow it was changed to 6-3. Just texted again. My note-book is always right.

For those who want to know. Praze 4-1 up at half time and strolling. Penzance had 4-5 starters missing and then lost another forcing our Manager to come on.

Goals scored 1-0 (9mins), 1-1 (13), 2-1 (18), 3-1 (36), 4-1 (44), 4-2 (50), 5-2 (58) and 5-3 (81)

Our keeper played his best game for ages saving a string of shots and also two penalties.

Four Lanes 1 - 5 Probus

On a pitch that for the most part wasn't too bad considering the rain, only one corner hadn't managed to cope. A slow start from both teams resulted in Four Lanes scoring the opener, good pass through with a good finish.

As time went on Probus became a stronger presence, this resulted in a nice cross from Connor Rhodes with the header from Sam Bullen. Probus then took the lead when a ball looked up to the edge of the box and a first time volley from Sam Hadfield. Before the half was over Sam Bullen lobbed another over the GK.

The second half was comfortable for Probus, with another goal coming from a corner, and a bizarre way for Sam Bullen to finally, after missing lots from about 6 yards, when the GK tried to hold him by the legs, only for Bullen to try and nod the ball over the goal line, whilst it was on the floor.

Probus missed a lot of chances, but overall a fair result on the day.

Division 4

Lizard Res 3-0  Stithians Res

A very one sided 3-0 and could have been lots more with better finishing, but also a great performance by their stand in keeper. Fair play to the Stithians lads who kept going on a heavy pitch despite only having one sub. Thanks for your custom in the bar afterwards, see you at your place in the new year.

Trelawny Division 4

Saturday 16th December 2017

Praze-An-Beeble 5-3 Penzance Reserves

Att – 11

Penzance travelled to the Nancegollan Playing Field to take on top of the table, and unbeaten Praze-An-Beeble and came away empty handed, suffering a 5-3 defeat. They were not helped by being depleted when several starting players couldn't make the game. Praze had only one tactic and that was to knock the ball long through the middle and either channel, and it proved effective as they took a 4-1 half-time lead.

With Tristan Hunter managing to get there to play the second half, Penzance were a bigger threat upfront and so kept their opponents at bay as they had to drop one or two back to cover the threat.

Mention must be made of Penzance keeper Simon Mortimer who made several good blocks and stops whilst also saving two penalties.

Looking at the Praze team sheet they had 5 playing who have recently played in the Combo League, with one Simon Carter (Illogan) netting 2.

As it seems to happen every week, Penzance kick off the match defending the Helston end of the ground.

From the off the tone of the half is set as Praze encamp in the Penzance half, winning a series of corners. From one, keeper Mortimer has to get down and block a point-blank shot.

With their one way of playing Praze go in front in the 9th minute. A long ball from the back sees a strike run through, one on one putting a 12yd shot past the keeper.

The lead last 4 minutes as in a rare attack, Penzance are awarded a penalty for handball. Macually Fellows takes it, high and left of the keeper, 1-1.

Two minutes later, Penzance concede a penalty. The stiker knocks it low to the left but Mortimer dives and gets a block in.

From another corner and the left a shot comes in and once again Mortimer is down to block it. A Penzance player has to come off and manager Darren Dayuss comes on. Within moments he is involved in a tackle that sees him injure his hip which leaves him hobbling for the rest of the game.

The game is still one way and Penzance concede the second on 18mins. A corner on the right gives a player a free header to nod in.

By now the pitch is starting to cut up badly with high balls refusing to bounce, passes stopping half way to their intended recipient.

Penzance have to defend time and again with Praze missing the target several times before they take a 3-1 lead in the 36th minute. A through ball down the left channel, run on, cross, cross, low 12yd volley into the net.

A minute to the end of the half and a fourth goes in. Again a through ball but this time Mortimer is isolated as two strikers race towards him with the one dribbling the ball cheekily nutmegging him.

H-T

The second half is a more even affair and seems to fly by. There is goal action but none of it to write about apart from the goals and second penalty save.

Mortimer blocks another couple of shots before Reece Evans runs onto a through ball, side-stepping his defender to rifle home from 10yds. 50 minutes gone 4-2.

8 minutes later 5-2 when a ball through the middle again leaves Mortimer isolated, shot from 15yds.

Penzance concede a second penalty. This time the taker puts it down the middle, keeper down and scoops it up.

81 minutes, 5-3, down the left, cross over for Evans to shoot in low, cross goal from 12yds.

Game peters out as ground conditions deteriorate and it is as dark as sin due to the heavy clouds overhead. Referee calls time, into the changing room for a clean up and the team scatter until we all meet at home next week when we play Hayle 3rds, another mid-table side we must beat to get into the promotion places.
