A win for the Hurlers against Madron on Monday evening, plus the yet-to-be-added points from the Mousehole and Troon would make it second against third in Trelawny 4 - big game indeed!

Premier

Chacewater 0  Mawnan 2   h/t 0-1

One of the many games ruined by the strong wind blowing down the pitch i suspect.Chacewater were a bit depleted but all those that played gave their all.

A free-kick from RJ was the first goal as Mawnan had most of the possession in the first half without really troubling Jamie Wilson in the home goal.

Chacewater had a lot more possession in the second half with the strong wind behind them and created a few chances but were unable to effectively hit the target.Mawnan broke away to score a late second when a shot was covered by the keeper only to take a wicked deflection the other way into the net.

Game played in the right way and very well reffed by Graham Tippett (with four active referees watching!)

Mabe 6 - 2 Lizard

Mabe went 1 up mid way through the 1st half, then luke murrEy missed a penalty not long after putting wide and hitting the corner flag. Lizard pulled one back about 10 minutes before half time when the lizard midfielder seen the mabe keeper off his line

and hit a ball 1st time which looped over and  into the top corner. Mabe had the most of the 1st half which ended 1-1.

2nd half was a better performance for mabe as they scored 5 goals and could of had more, Lizard never gave up and created  chances converting 1 with a good finish which went into the top corner. well reffed by the man in black don't know his name.

Div 4

Falmouth 1st, 2nd and 3rds 5 (3) -v- (0) 0 Newlyn NA Res.

Well, I guess I am allowed to write a few words about the match today, having been sanctioned by the young ref today to keep my mouth shut and not say a word during the game, or else I was off!?! WTF. I very rarely have any complaints about refs, thankless task, very difficult and so on. But, there comes a time when things get a little odd. In all fairness, he was not bad, and we need refs, so he needs to keep going. But jeeeeez, there were a couple of moments today that are probably best forgotten about. Anyway, the ref had no impact on the result, so that's something.

Newlyn turned up with the bare 11, at about 2.15pm, to see Falmouth with about 42 players, half a dozen kit boys, two physios, manager, fans, everything...not an encouraging start. I suggested we nip up and get a couple of pints of lager, and light up a couple of fags, and stand to watch the Falmouth warm up, to psych them out, but we didn't have time, and only one of us smokes! So we got changed, went out and managed to kick the ball at our keeper 4 times before it was kick off time.

Falmouth started brightly, and scored after about 10 seconds. So yes, a bright start. Hmmm, this could be a long afternoon, but it wasn't until about 5 minutes later that the home team smashed in number 2. A direct free kick, edge of box. A real beauty by the "obviously playing well below his normal standard" Falmouth midfielder. Thought we did ok for about 4 minutes there, but we were struggling to get out of our half, few minutes later, number 3 from a corner. Holy sheet, not looking good. But to our credit, the youngsters started getting a foot on the ball, and although rarely threatening to trouble the Falmouth goal, we made a game of the last 35 first half minutes.

At halftime, the ref allowed me to speak to him, but only until I had made a point that he could only retort "this is the kind of level of officiating he would expect at our level of football". He was not speaking of himself of course, but the rather slapdash "linesman" positioning. Anyway, at that point, he made a zip gesture across his lips, and so I fuccked off for my half time breather.

Second half started similarly to the first, 2 quick goals for the home team, and hands on hips for us lot thinking of the 3 million other things we could have done this afternoon. But, when one of our lads went down with what looked like something serious, until we realised it was Daz who has a serious injury to contend with anyway, his whole body, and we were down to 10, we seemed to get a foothold, somehow forcing Falmouth onto the back foot. Several corners were forced, and there were signs we could get a goal back. Daz had now been attended to by the 2 home physios, and whatever they had done to him worked, as he re-entered the game and seemed to had benefitted from his short rest. The game continued in a rather end to end fashion, no more goals, a few more WTF refereeing moments, and that was it.

Well done Falmouth. Not a bad bunch of lads, and good luck with your push up the table.

PREMIER DIVISION

Chacewater 0-2 Mawnan

Mawnan turned up for their final game of the season at the strangely early time of mid April.

Having had goalkeeper issues all season it was fitting that we welcomed our 7th goalie of the season with an appearance from Ian Grant who kept a clean sheet.

Mawnan had the better of the first half, but were only able to convert that into a 1-0 half time advantage.

With the wind behind them in the second half, Chacewater created pressed at the beginning of the half, but mawnan defended well and restricted them to few chances.

With fresh legs coming on midway through the second half mawnan then got back on top and scored a second after 70 minutes.

A good 2-0 win to finish off the season.

What to do on a Saturday now!

Newquay 4ths 2-0 Newbridge Athletic

It was a slow start today by Newbridge and Newquay had the better of the early chances but were saved by Newbridge keeper or wide of the target. Newbridge then started to get into the game and had a few attempts themselves but they were blazed over the bar. I don't often complain about a ref on here as without them we wouldn't have a game so I'm grateful for the job they do, but this ref was the most incompetent ref we have had. Newquay player went though on Sam Joyce very late and took him completely out, only for the ref to give a throw. The rest of the half was fairly even until 5 minutes of the half to go there was the most shocking decision I have ever seen on the pitch by a ref. James Tregay was through into the box with just one player and the goalkeeper to beat, the player clattered straight into him making no attempt to play the ball making it a stone wall penalty. The ref walked over to where the foul was we could only be thinking it was to check if it was inside the box as he was standing nearer the centre circle. He then pointed for a foul and gave an indirect freekick inside the box and I have absolutely no idea why he gave it as a free-kick. Has anyone ever witnessed anything this ridiculous.

Newbridge were unable to score from the free-kick and that was pretty much the end of the half with the score at 0-0.

2nd half again was fairly even but once again it was Newquay who had the better opportunities and they took the lead from a corner, the ball came in and there was a scramble in the box and Jon Mitchell put the ball into the back of the net to give them an early lead. Twenty minutes from the end Newbridge player Chris Woledge gave away two silly free-kicks on the edge of the box in an identical place. The first one was dealt with but the second was whipped into the back post and Jon Mitchell headed home his second of the match.

Newbridge made some changes to try and get back into the game but failed to score any goals not testing the keeper enough and having very little good chances. The score ended 2-0 to the home side.

Thanks to the Mabe lads who changed into their blue kit after we turned up in our changed orange strip which matched theirs. Good competitive first half where Lizard scored both goals (including a GOS contender from Si) and came in 1-1 at half time which we at least deserved. We started the same shape 2nd half but the Mabe youngsters are fast and fit and deservedly scored 4 before we were able to respond with another beauty from Kyle. Mabe got their 6th as we pressed and perhaps we could have done better than the score suggests, however Mabe deserve the victory. Agree, well reffed on the whole and we wish Mabe all the best in their pursuit of the title.
