Cornwall United?

Recommended Posts

Obviously a bit of a controversial question but would Truro City gain more support if the renamed themselves Cornwall Utd? :c:

This has obviously worked for Cornish Pirates (previously Penzance & Newlyn RFC), increased crowds because people feel they are getting behind a successful Cornish rugby side.

I got to be honest being as a Plymouth Argyle supporter, I would rather watch my village side Carharrack play for free than watch Truro.

I realise Cornish football is very tribal but with Truro City on the brink, could a re-branding of the club work? Lets be honest the PR over the years has been abysmal.

What are your thoughts? I'm prepared for the abuse :P

United ? Not a word I would associate with the club in recent years. I still prefer City of Truro FC, or if going totally for the Cornish identity, Kernow FC. Having said that, with the identity of the towns and villages also very much in mind, would anyone else actually want to watch the side after all the goings on. Whatever name they go by, It certainly will not be a United Cornish side.

Never in a million years , I think in general we all support our own local clubs , And apart from the sad glory hunters that initially jumped on the

band wagon im sure most people have no interest at all in what goes on at that club ,

I do feel a degree of sympathy for the proper Truro City fans who were there in the south western league days , But must say we all know the demise has been coming for a long time

In ever decreasing numbers it seems! Just look at the average attendances so far this season Launceston 63, St. Blazey 68, Bodmin 82, Falmouth 102. Clubs need to take a hard look at why spectators are voting with their feet.

What are St.Austell are doing right then? - excellent home attendances, improving year on year, and large travelling support.

They've already been rebranded? Tigers and white kit, everybody I know thought it was a joke.

New sponsors - Wonga dot com, the payday loan specialists.

I for one have not one iota of sympathy for TCFC, a little for the true supporters, but not much. If that had happened at my club I would have walked out the door! they would not have had a penny from me.

Never in a million years was it going to be sustainable, success with a trail of debt, absolutely disgraceful!!!!

All this outpouring of sympathy is quite nauseating, remember TCFC put themselves in a position of large debt before Mr Heaney got there. It could quite easily have been a few other clubs who are sitting on a sizeable debt. Want to put your club on the road to recovery??? stop paying players is the place to start.

Im not sure why the poor crowds have come about. Not every club can be at the top so its not that. Big crowds at St Austell have come about from friday night fixtures against other local clubs. St Austell have worked hard to put things right and people have took to it. Well done to them. Its got to be about promoting the club in the right way. Simple as that. Look at Truro, crowds now down to 300. They have been over 1000. People dont stick around when its clear the club isnt run well.

Just look at your club, winning - good crowds, losing - not many. Friday night football generates income to a point, in gate receipts, tea coffee etc, bar sales down compared to a Saturday - no doubt.

St Austell, flavour of the month, new lights - people like that but it wears off ! They will have to pick their floodlit games carefully when the novelty is gone.

TCFC, losing - crowds gone, down to a few TISA members maybe, take them away and bye bye Truro.

Always doubted Truro's official gate numbers anyway, got caught on the Newcastle Benfield game did they not. Laugh, you couldn't make it up, well the gate numbers you could, probably counted the blades of grass on their threadbare pitch of a few years ago. Rumour has it all the gate receipts never made it to the treasurer anyway.

I think you'll find the actual TISA membership is down to a very low figure. Which means present gates are made up of Truro supporters, whether they be old; those picked up along the way; away supporters as well as TISA members.

I did put "maybe as I don't know who goes there. Thinking about it, I may pop in and have look sometime soon before its gone.

Whichever Cornish club it was playing at level 2, they would have got the decent crowds due to the latent interest in football better than level 6 can dish up. These aren't exactly fair weather fans, just fans of good football. If Truro ever manage to recover from the Heaney effect and establish themselves in level 2 - very doubtful this season though that could change this week with a lot of luck - then after a few years a proper base of supporters would build up in numbers. There is obviously interest in Cornwall for better football but I doubt the County could really sustain a League club. An average of 2000 is the best it could reach on a regular basis - and that would be whichever club it was established itself at level 2. So a 10,000 seater stadium isn't needed. Most pf Cornwall's level 6 clubs have the space to develop their grounds to the required standard for level 2.

The great hope was that our stupid councillors would vote for that stadium. It should never be built with public money, it will lose money over and over and over again. If multi millionaires want it - let them build it.

A small token public donation - fine, but absolutely no annual subsidy. Look at hall for Cornwall, no more than a money drain, along with swimming pools and the arts, a lot of money for the minority, paid for by the majority.

That could be done at Treyew Road.

No it can't, they don't own it anymore!!!!!! Jib job developments (or whatever they are) would sell it back for £5 million I expect, tidy couple of mill profit. Luvvly jubbly, you could'nt make it up. Start thinking about playing at Boscawen park I think.

I don't argue with your point about ownership. I was merely referring to the fact that the Treyew Road site has a large enough "footprint" to accommodate a 4,000 capacity stadium. You also need to hear the rumour that suggests that no money has changed hands over the sale of the ground to Jojo, making a bit of a mockery of the idea of a "sale" at all! More smoke and mirrors, it seems, a tangled web weaved by the arch embroiderer himself, one would be forgiven for assuming, but I could be wrong.

No money changed hands - what!, some-one else not paid - again.

Treyew could certainly accomadate a 4,000 seater, but, for 300/500 fans not worth it and no-one is going to build it. Boscawen park methinks.
