SWPL Result
Callington Town 2 Launceston 3

The Clarets made it three consecutive victories for the first time in five years, coming away from local rivals Callington with all three points this afternoon. Carl Aldridge, Lewis Young and Andy Watkins were on target after a tremendous battle on a very heavy surface, watched by a healthy crowd of 245.

Well done Clarets 👏🏻💜

St Dennis came away not only with 3 points but 5 stitches to the keepers ankle as well, unsure of the spectators there but it was fairly busy, massive 3 points even though we had 9 players at one point on the pitch as the ref put 2 of ours in the sin bin for asking a question.

Joel and Ash with our goals unsure about stickers scorer but all 3 goals well taken, decent spread and beer in the clubhouse after, thanks to the ref and linos as always, horrible job but someone has to do it.

PENZANCE 3 TRURO CITY RESERVES 0
Penzance rounded off 2023 with an impressive victory in front of a bumper Boxing Day crowd at Penlee Park, captain Tyler Tonkin blasting a hat-trick in their final fixture of the calendar year.
The Magpies welcomed back Charlie Willis, James Butler and Mark Vercesi, the latter replacing Liam Andrew, injured last time out against St Austell, at centre-back. Visitors Truro City Reserves made the brighter start hitting the woodwork in the opening exchanges but, once Tonkin had bagged his first with a crisp right-foot angled drive after a quarter hour, the Magpies never looked back.
The best move of the match spawned the second goal, shortly before the break. Vercesi rolled a free-kick out to Darryl Richards wide on the left. The latter’s splendid cross-field ball was expertly controlled by Ollie Butler who fed a pass to Tonkin to clip home his second.
Both Butler brothers went close as the home side continued to dominate after the turnaround. And, after great work down the right by Jacob Trudgeon, Tonkin was only denied his third by a save from Morgan Jones. Truro’s best chance came after an excellent burst down the right by substitute Matty Walker that culminated with a shot that skidded just past the far post.
With seven minutes to go, City substitute Teddy Horton saw a shot well saved by Will Trenoweth. Penzance counter-attacked with menace, Rolandos Samnauskas, on for Richards, haring clear down the left. Samnauskas, the last Magpie to notch a hat-trick (at Sticker last season) drilled over an inviting centre from which Tonkin gleefully snaffled his third.
“It was a fantastic way for us to finish the year,” said manager Ashley Waters. “We dominated with a massive shift from all the players. Everything asked from them they delivered on today, and a special mention goes to Tyler who once again showed leadership. His hat-trick gave him a well-earned Man of the Match award.”

Penzance: Will Trenoweth, Archie Reynolds , James Butler, Ollie Butler, Mark Vercesi, Darryl Richards (Rolandos Samnauskas, Jacob Trudgeon, Kam Collins, Silas Sullivan, Tyler Tonkin (captain), Charlie Willis
Truro: Morgan Jones, Eagan Fabby, Lawson Turpin, Owen Rosevear, Jack Carron, Fin Harrison, Teddy Horton, Josh Turner, Ben Shaw, Gabe Turpin, Jake Edlin. Subs: Cameron Hirst, Josh Marcelis, Dan Carne, Matty Walker, Ollie Paterson
Referee: Paul Kempen
Assistants: Liam Bray, Francis Hood
Attendance: 402

Well done St Dennis. Might be best to point out that the ref was very lenient and did well to keep 11 players on the pitch at 90 minutes. Players made mistakes and clearly all 3 officials will reflect on some decisions. No one was perfect today! Best wishes to the keeper who suffered an injury from nothing more than an accidental incident. Probably best to IGNORE chunkycheese who obviously has some crazy agenda against Sticker FC.

All entitled to our opinion

i do not agree with how they treated their manager. Appear to be the bastions of moral integrity when it suits

Interesting to see you deem the challenge accidental. From my view the keeper catches the ball which is at head height. If the player is running in challenging for that ball the challenge would come from his head, and his studs would not be in a position to cut across the keepers ankle! Clearly left a foot in. He also apparently repeated this on an outfield in the 2nd half, though I did not see that one.

Thought the referee officiated the game very well for the best part...although did go a bit needlessly "gung-ho" in the final quarter of the game, and definitely wound everyone up for what seemed like the fun of it by the end.

Great report again James. A superb day all round at Penlee Park. A terrific team performance rounded off by a hat trick from Captain Marvel,Tyler Tonkin in his recently new forward role. The largest crowd for a league game for probably 40 years or more.

Rounded off by a wonderful spread in the Clubhouse.

A crowd of over 400 👏 Isn’t it great for Cornish football, both Dobwalls and Callington had healthy crowds, not forgetting Torpoint and Falmouth in the higher league. Does anyone know what the Newquay attendance was ?

Newquay vs St Austell

 By 100%cornish

After queuing to get into Mt Wise to watch Newquay take on St Austell , didnt have time to even get settled than my favourite player Adam Carter had put St Austell 1-0 up and im thinking this is going to be a hammering Newquay where not really in the game at all but they where missing 2 of the best players in Cam Turner and Matt Saunders Adam Carter was causing plenty of problems for Newquay and got his 2nd before half time to go in at 2-0 up but could of been more .

St Austell where dominating the game in every position Slateford and Brocks controlled the midfield Carter and Eddy where all over Newquay in attack and at the back Tom Whipp and Harvey Hann where dominating in defence and Martin Duff in his new position at left back where he was outstanding .

Newquay lost there influentual captain Ross Fallens when he got injured doing 1 of his own tackles and once he had gone off St Austell just took over and dominated the game . Newquay had a free kick just outside the penalty area Cam Turner territory but with him not there to take it it went high and wide .

With time running out Adam Carter still had time to claim his hat trick and not long after he was substituted he didnt look happy about that

St Austell worthy 3-0 winners but if Saunders and Turner had played i think there would of been a closer game .

Usually If you got a hat trick you get Mom but nope im giving it to St Austell captain Neil Slateford his little legs covered every blade of grass and was outstanding as where a lot of his team mates and for Newquay my mom goes to Josh Evans thought the ref had a good game and played the advantage when he could .

Good crowd up  there i would say about 400 but someone will put me right like they usually do .

Well done to StAustell and good luck for the rest of the season but cant see anyone stopping the Liskeard Steamroller as for Newquay things will be fine once Turner and Saunders are back in the team Was told the crowd yesterdays match was 536

Managed to move yesterdays report to hear thankyou for asking about me and Smokie both ok glad Christmas is out of the way , got a stomach ULCER thanks to my dr who prescribed me with Steroids to help with my Osteo Arthritis have to put up with that old age crept up 67 today getting old .Have a lovely day everyone and hope you all had a great Christmas

PRESS RELEASE

from Graham Hambly

Elburton Villa 2, Ivybridge Town 3

IVYBRIDGE Town increased their lead at the top of the table with a 3-2 away win over Elburton Villa while their main rivals dropped points in the South West Peninsula League on Boxing Day.

Ivybridge are nine points clear of second placed Crediton, who were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Okehampton, while third placed Bridport are ten points behind after drawing 0-0 at home to Axminster.

It proved to be a hard-fought local derby at Haye Road with Ivybridge taking an early lead when Jacob Smelt fired home a great shot from outside the penalty area in the 10th minute.

Elburton were back on level terms in the 29th minute, however, when some slack defensive work allowed Bentley Alcantra to break clear and shoot past goalkeeper Kane Gregory.

Striker Connor Rush had Ivybridge back in front at the interval when he applied the finishing touch with a shot in the 39th minute.

Ivybridge rang the changes with a series of substitutions during the early stages of the second half and threatened to take control as man of the match Chris Wright drove home to give them a 3-1 lead in the 65th minute.

Elburton continued to battle in an attempt to get back into the game and reduced the arrears with a close-range header from Jordan Rundle in the 79th minute.

That sparked a tense finale as the match went into seven minutes of stoppage time. During that period Ivybridge had substitute Dane Hewings sent off following a heated exchange involving players from both sides on the halfway line.

Despite finishing with ten men, Ivybridge held on to secure the three points with their first win in four games.

Joint manager Lance Bailey said: “It was really good to get the three points and get back to winning ways after the last couple of games.

“We knew it was going to be a scrappy game and that Elburton were not going to let us have it all our own way. They were not going to roll over and they battled hard.

“The boys did well and we are really pleased with the result. I thought we were a bit naive at times when we could have kept the ball in certain areas, but we got the win.”

Regarding the red card for Hewings, Bailey commented: “I feel sorry for Dane. I did not really see it but I thought he just pushed him on the chest, which these days you can’t do. These things happen in derbies. We are a bit gutted for that to happen and take it away from the win.”

Ivybridge now have three home fixtures in their next four matches starting with a home game against Torridgeside on Saturday (Dec 30).

They are away to Newton Abbot Spurs on January 6 and then have home fixtures against Cullompton (January 13) and Axminster (January 20).

“We are glad the games are coming thick and fast now so we can get a bit of a run going,” says Bailey.

“Hopefully on Saturday we can use a few of the squad players and we are looking forward to it. The boys are starting to get sharpness now and we can start getting them match sharp.”
