And now Adam Carter announced as a signing. I have to be honest I don’t get that one at all. He wasn’t deemed up to it a few seasons ago and must be  almost 40 .
going from Seymour to Carter  is a gamble in a key area.

Unless somebody else is coming in , you have to ask who from Jack Crago, Tom Bath or Adam Carter is going to get you 25 or so league goals (Seymour got 24 in the league last season, only him and Crago got double figures).

Really want to believe there's a plan here.

Adam Carter is 36 (I think). In fairness, you can't say he's lost his pace as it was never really a feature of his play.

Got the impression that was it for parkway signings this season. Huge pressure on crago to deliver the goals and stay fit.

I think he referenced it in his interview. Yes, his playing involvement may be limited (still popped up with a few goals last season) but it'll be his overall experience and clearly someone that Lee trusts.

Tom bath has left now. Which I’m not surprised about. Means only 2 strikers at the club . Crago ( who you wouldn’t really class as natural striker )  and Carter . Would imagine Lee needs another one in

Must mean that someone is incoming. Including this week's new signings and Bath's departure, the squad is now at 14. Lee Hobbs had stated that he wants to go with 17 permanent signings this season (sensible decision, the squad was stretched very thin last season).

Bath back to Tiverton apparently . I wonder if this is a sudden move as i assume Lee planned to have him in the squad.  Never really worked out for him at parkway I was never really that impressed and after that injury he did well to play again let alone come back at that level.
will definitely need a striker upgrade now maybe even 2

Tom Bath came in as a highly rated, marquee signing from Dorchester  (they were upset at losing him), but never seemed to fit in at  Parkway. Was slightly surprised to see him on the original retained list for 2023/24.  He did incredibly well to be back playing within a year of the horrific injury he suffered, a change of scenery though is probably the best for both parties.

Expect we'll see a few players getting looked at in pre season training and friendlies, a certain Mister T.Riallist is usually pretty busy at this time of year.

Would like to see Mikey Williams in a more attacking wide position too. He has goals in him. However , he has been great at the back too.

Callum Rose and Toby Down are the only specialist centre backs at Parkway currently, so would be surprised if another isn't brought in to cover that position. Louis Morison of Tiverton (plays in defence or midfield) was a name i heard as being linked to them

Agree that Mikey Williams' creativity and goals are missed further forward, but the upturn in the teams form (and the leaking of goals being stemmed), came when he was moved to the left of a back 3.

Joe Belsten is a great signing. Did exceptionally well with Buckland then stepped up to Tiverton and carried on putting in top performances week in week out.

Agree Jim - Joe Belston was fantastic at the Bucks and he has much more experience at a higher level now. Fans are going to love him!

I’m really interested and intrigued as a Parkway fan to see how this season plays out. It’s undoubtedly a departure for Lee in terms of the players he’s bought in and what he’s lost.

But as with my fellow Parkway fans have seen over the last few years, Lee always finds a way to get it right and I have no doubt he will do the same again this year.

Either way, looking forward to the Argyle game at Bolitho - I am missing my fix already.

Listen, Leezo would have learnt from the contracted player early season holiday blues going into next year. It seems he learns and develops with a knowledge of local players. This seems like a lower grade recruitment drive, but maybe he knows more that us and has it covered 👍🏼

Lee Hobbs will be a year wiser in terms of Southern League football without a doubt. Looking around the league though, several clubs look to be heavily recruiting and signing players. Clubs can't afford to stand still at this level. Parkway definetely need to start well and get some wins on the board early, don't want to get drawn towards the wrong end of the table from the onset and have to play catch up over the winter months  Time will be the judge of the new signings, and whether they are adequate replacements or upgrades for the players that have moved on. The departures of Austen Booth and Ben Seymour has left gaps in both attack and defence though, would think there must be a plan to replace them as we head towards the start of pre season.

  • 1 month later...

Oscar Halls joins from Argyle on a 3 month loan. Tall, 18 year old centre back, who signed his first professional contract in the summer.

Mutually beneficial for both clubs, gives Halls vital experience of playing competitive, regular senior football and Parkway get extra squad depth in a key position.

Beaten 3 nil by Tavistock tonight a result i unfortunately thought was coming. A lot players have played every minute of pre season. Only 4 on the bench 1 a youngster and 2 not really match fit. No Carter again think he played about 45 mins all pre season .
hopefully just a bad night but that fairly comprehensive beating with the season on the horizon

I guess that if you believe that PSF's are for the most part, pretty irrelevant (as I do), then you would disregard last night's result. 3-0 win, or 0-3 loss, it probably isn't going to make too much difference to the season for either Tavi or Parkway. There's been such a large movement of players at most clubs in the Southern League, that things will only become clearer after 10 games or so. Let's judge Lee Hobbs (and Stuart Henderson) at this point.

Absolutely.
We’ve got a very young squad so having time to gel before the season is the most important thing.

Let’s hope not too many of our lads caught the eye of Parkway last night though.

Looks like Adam Carter has signed dual registration with St Austell. In their squad for next weekend I think.

Yes I imagine he play majority at St Austell  then help out parkway on the bench when needed. .  Hardly featured at parkway all through pre season.

Must surely mean there's at least 1 (hopefully 2) forwards coming before the big kick off on Saturday. At the moment, Jack Crago is the only experienced and fit forward available. I know people at Parkway are very excited about Dylan Jones (who came off the bench and scored against Yeovil on Saturday), but expecting him to make a regular impact after making the jump from the under 18's is a big ask. They have used a selection of trialists in pre season, don't know if any of those will be made into permanent signings. The squad does look very thin going into Saturday's game with, according to the Southern League website, only 15 players currently registered. And that includes Adam Carter and Henry Wilson (who is rumoured to be injured). As Lee Hobbs has often said though, trust the process.

Left parkway and joined st Austell permanently.  All very odd parading him in the first place as the new striker. He left originally because of travel commitments and even during pre season he only had the odd 5 mins here and there. ( was told he didn’t feel he was fit enough for that standard  ) understandable when you getting on in years and need be playing at that level . Think at st Austell will be a better fit he still score goals in that level .

that Carter , bath and Seymour all gone
do wonder where parkway are finding 2 strikers from  In next week or so

Ryan Richards got 4 for Torpoint last night and is bang in form. Wonder if he'll be getting a phone call.... 😀

Are there that many strikers down this way they can bring in?

In that league they could be looking up around Bristol area . Unfortunately Truro have the 2 best local strikers around and then you’re looking at likes of Ryan Richards or prynn at tavi. etc who happy playing  at their clubs or don’t want extra travel . So is difficult . May have to hope a loan comes in.

Think they could’ve done a lot worse than Owen Howe who signed for Willand recently. Believe he’s North Devon based.

Really not sure who they will be bringing in. Don’t think there are too many options locally so may have to look further afield as you mentioned.

That is the problem. Where do you find a 25-30 goal, step 3 ready, striker in the Plymouth/Devon area (outside of Rocky Neal and Tyler Harvey of course)? Up the road at Tiverton they have Tom Bath (been there, tried that), Matt Buchan (not exactly prolific with either them or Bideford) and beyond this they have used Niall Thompson or Jack Rice in the number 9 shirt. Then, dropping down a level, Bideford have ex Parkway Matt Wright and Craig Duff with Willand bringing in Owen Howe. Howe is a player I thought that Parkway may have considered, but to say he has had disciplinary issues is an understatement. You are then looking at the loan market, which was used with mixed results in this position last season (Jared Lewington, Ollie Hulbert and Oscar Massey didn't set the world alight).

Think Howe was looked at but not a player that would fit in with the group. Doesn’t hang around long at clubs it seems. And is off as soon as an extra pound note is waved around.  Think prynn at tavi would have been the one to try and get. Definitely a proper goal scorer.

Tried and failed I believe (thankfully)

You can be very successful without an out and out striker, who tend rely on a particular type of service. I tend have more faith in a team who have goals throughout the team who are over reliant on one striker, who often gets injured. Truro seem to have goals throughout the team, whereas Parkway are a bit weaker in this department.

Truro wouldn’t have got anywhere without Harvey and Rockys  goals. . A goalscorer In that standard is key.

Looking at the league stats for last year, Tyler Harvey got 27 goals, Rocky Neal 19, Danny Sullivan 13. Nobody else got into double figures.
