Wendron Res 3 - 2 Penryn

Went to watch this game last night and it certainly had it all….goals, rain, bookings, more rain, sending off, wind, 7 minutes additional time and under lights.

Wendron started well and Josh Wood scored after a scramble in the Penryn box. It then looked as though it would be a landslide as Wendron cut through the Penryn defence at ease with some good pass and movement….if they had their shooting boots on it would have been 4-0 after 30 minutes, but They didn’t and Penryn got back into the game with a Brodie Kemp goal. HT 1-1

second half Wendron scored via Max Bowden and the game looked to be all over when a rush of blood by Joe Mcilroy saw him shown a straight red for raising both hands to a defenders face and pushing to the ground. But Penryn got a equaliser with a well taken goal by Steve Brewer. Tackles starting to fly in, a few handbags at times but the referee Andy McKnight kept the game well managed and showed a card when it needed to be calmed down. The winner came ten minutes from time when Dan Head smashed a left footer into the top corner.
Then it was off home to dry off and a warm cup of tea 🤣👍

Wendron 3 - 2 Penryn (Kemp, S.Brewer)

A cracking game for the neutral.

Wendron took the lead with their 1st attack when a player from either team got to a corner at the same time, which saw the ball drop to the feet of the superb Wendron #14 who couldn't believe his luck as his fired in from 5 yards, Wendron went on to dominate the 1st half but couldn't extend their lead. Penryn came back in to the game as the half came to an end & had a few half chances of their own. The visitors made it 1-1 when Ryn MOM Brodie Kemp beat a couple men on the edge of the box before smashing the ball in the top corner from 18 yards. The half time whistle blew & Wendron must have been wondering how they hadn't put the game to bed already with many chances created & squandered. The 2nd half was a much tighter affair, with Penryn starting the brighter but Wendron still looking dangerous & going very close to taking the lead but for a miraculous save from Craig Allen down to his left. Dron did go ahead with a quick counter attack when a Penryn defender misjudged a clearance, the Wendron #10 got in behind & cut in from the left & coolly slotted past Allen. Then with 30 minutes left Penryn were reduced to 10 men when Joe Mcilroy was sent off for an off the ball incident when Ryn were on a promising attack. Despite going down to 10 Penryn then enjoyed their best spell of the game & made it 2-2 when Steve Brewer slotted home after after a Joel Snape flick on. Ryn then had several chances to take the lead, the biggest 1  when Kemp beat the offside trap but somehow the keeper managed to get a hand to it onto the post. As the half went on tempers were flaring with both teams having a few booked & Penryn players feeling they weren't getting the rub of the green with some decisions. The Ryn felt even more hard done by with 15 to go when Joel Snape ran on to a through ball, looking clearly onside & scoring only to see the flag go up, much to the dismay of the Ryn fans & players, to which 1 Wendron sub shouted "your linesman was doing the same 1st half". As luck would have it Wendron pumped the ball up field from the resulting free kick, eventually finding its way to the centre forward whos shot struck the head of the Ryn defender & rocketed in to the top corner, despite the best efforts of Allen who was superb on the night. With 10 minutes to Ryn pumped a hopeful ball into the box, which the keeper & Kemp arrived to at the same time & the ball flicked over both of their heads, Kemp got the wrong side of the keeper, only for the gk to to jump through the man to get to the ball, which resulted in neither man getting there & what looked like a rugby tackle, but the ref decided no foul was committed. A Penryn player then said something along the lines of "how much are they paying you?" & was rightly sin binned & the last 10 mins of 9 vs 11 was a game of Wendron playing keep ball & Penryn playing "hit & hope".

The final whistle blew & Wendron took the 3 points. Penryn feel so unlucky not to come away with at least a draw, but at the same time Wendron had more than enough chances to see the game off in the 1st half. Wendron keep their 100% record going & Penryn now 1 point from 2 games. Its a funny old game...

Penryn are turning into a bunch of yobs

Where are you getting that from? The only red cards we had last season were from our goalkeeper for last man fouls, & we barely had any yellows. What we lack is a bit of bite to be honest. The sending off last night was just our teenaged winger getting "old manned", he moaned at ht that the defender kept kicking him off the ball, then we we attacking down there left & the defender kicked the lad off the ball again & he stupidly ran back to him & pushed him. & thats not trying to paint the defender in a bad light, as I've been doing that stuff myself for 20 years, he was smarter & he won the battle. But to say we are yobs is a bit drastic.

The blondewinger down from the first team was the difference.

Wendron long range shooting/chances....Penryn short range chances created and missed with an outstanding few saves in the second half from the dron keeper.

A draw would have been a fair result.

Not sure long range shooting was the only chances Wendron had….one open goal missed from 2 yards, 1 good save from keeper and 2 shots inside 8 yards narrowly wide. Yes they were some speculative shots but if you don’t shoot you don’t score at times. The lad down from Wendron first team was class and nullified the two Newquay first teamers playing for Penryn 😏👍

Yes they had a couple of close ones but generally it was all long range stuff.

Good game overall I thought and enjoyed it.
