CORNWALL AIRPORT NEWQUAY DUCHY LEAGUE

(from Mike Newcombe)

Holywell/Cubert Athletic leapfrog Tintagel to get off the bottom of the Premier Division after coming from behind to win 3-2. The visitors trailed 2-1 at the interval with Liam Downing and Nick Hardcastle the home scorers. The turning point came in the 30th minute with the sending off of Tintagel’s Adam Price leading to Holywell scoring twice in the closing twenty minutes to claim the win. Holywell’s scorers were Peter Bruce, Lee Mann and Alex Taylor.

St Newlyn East are up to second, one point off the top but with four games in hand of the leaders after a 5-1 win at St Merryn and must be favourites for the title. Brodie Mitchell scored a brace with Craig Harvey, Lucas Moses and Ross London adding a goal apiece. St Merryn replied with a Josh Old consolation goal.

Boscastle move third after their 3-0 home success over St Breward handing the visitors just a second league defeat of the season. James Bosley hit a brace with Sam Haddy claiming the other goal.

Phil Kombostiotis scored four goals as Saltash United Thirds came from two goals down at Lostwithiel to win 5-3. Tom Bullock completed the Saltash scoring with Jonny Harris, Liam Rooney and James Hutchings replying for Lostwithiel.

The Nanpean goal machine keeps rolling on at the top of Division Two beating Boscastle reserves 6-1. There was a brace apiece for brothers Reece and Jordi Willmott with Scott Brown and Luke Truscott completing the hosts tally. Matt Jolliffe scored the lone Boscastle consolation.

Southgate Seniors beat Lifton Reserves 4-1 to stay second. Mike Steele hit a brace with Wayne Francome and Mark Wilson completing the home tally. Liam Rich pulled a goal back for Lifton.

Calstock worked extremely hard to get their pitch playable for the home match with Week St Mary. The work was rewarded with a 4-3 win, which takes them up to third with a brace from Jason Ridgment and goals from Ian Rooke and Ashley Small. Week replied with goals from Jimmy Shanks, Jake Cartwright and Steve Short.

St Columb Major stretch their lead at the top of Division Three after beating Gunnislake reserves 6-2. Marco Ciarleglio hit a hat trick with the home scoring completed by Casey Laity, Conor Doocey and Elliott Webber.

North Petherwin reserves gave up home advantage as their pitch was unfit to travel to third placed Delabole United, but the sacrifice was well worth the effort as they produced their best performance of the season in winning 5-0. Jay Webber scored a brace with Mada Lin Boss, Michael Bartlett and new signing Sam Watts adding a goal apiece.

St Merryn 1 St Newlyn East 5

Mitchell x2, Moses, Harvey, London with the goals for the Saints.

A comfortable afternoon for the Saints in blustery conditions on a difficult pitch.

3-0 @ H/T quickly became 4-0.

Having made a # of changes the Saints took the foot off the gas and Merryn got a consolation before London finished off proceedings.

Losty 3 Saltash 5

We weer 2-0 up and in control when we gave away an unnecessary goal just before Half Time. Missed chances or us and added belief from the ashes soon meant we were 4-2 behind. A late 3rd gave us brief hope before a last second breakaway gave Saltash the victory there desire and determination deserved.

Excellent first half from losty controlled the game really well, poor goal to give away before half time but went completely off the boil in the 2nd half Saltash must have had a hard time in the dressing room because they came out on top and deserved the points today
