Truro City 3-2 AFC Hornchurch

Recommended Posts

Congratulations to Truro on picking up three points. After the opening ten minutes or so when Andy Watkins saw two very good chances wasted, I wondered whether it was going to be another of those afternoons!

Andy also felt his hamstring very early on and so credit to him for lasting the whole game. However that's only the beginning of another very entertaining match at Treyew Road!

The first half could have gone either way, in addition to Watkins early efforts, skipper Jake Ash headed over and Joe Broad brought a good save out of the visitors' 'keeper. At the other end, Sandercombe had to be alert - ten minutes before the break Hornchurch had their best chance of the first half when Tambson Eyong shot ball wide while also claiming a penalty when Ash lunged across. Soon after that scare, City's goally Tim Sandercombe needed treatment, and although he stayed on, all he could do was hobble around and no kicking with his right foot! In fact, no kicking at all!

But before the break came the vital breakthrough. Kieffer Moore, who looked a little off his game in the opening ten minutes or so, was put in by a clever touch on by Watkins, and the lanky no.9 finished well for Lee Hodges' men to go in a goal up.

Sandercombe came out to start the second half, but with his right knee strapped up and looking in pain, although his agony must have been forgotten for a split second four minutes later when Watkins set up Moore for his second of the afternoon. Watkins cut inside on the right, passed to Moore who never hesitated and smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

Nothing is easy for City though at the moment and seven minutes later their lead was cut back to 2-1 when Leon McKenzie broke away and had no trouble slotting it past Sandercombe who by now was finding it difficult to move, let alone attempt a save.

Five minutes later and Jake "Captain Marvel" Ash took on the goally's role with player/manager Lee Hodges coming on as sub. Who said the gaffer had an injury? You wouldn't have known, especially by the way he took the free-kick to set City up for the third goal. Martin headed Hodges kick back across goal for Watkins to head in from close range and get the goal he deserved for yet another hard-working performance.

That goal came in the 66th minute, time aplenty for Ash to make a few saves, a couple blocks and the defence to hold firm, that was until the 5th minute of stoppage time when the game's fifth goal of the game went in. Thankfully it was too late for anything but maximum points for Truro and a vital win as they start their road to safety.

Certainly there was enough action to entice the 414 attendance to return again.

Great battling performance from the boys.

When Watto put us 3-1 up,the Shed End was bouncing ,and continued for the next 5 minutes.

Then a Security Gentleman decided everyone had to SIT.

In a matter of minutes,he cleared the Stand, and killed the atmosphere stone dead.

Well done you *****,for ruining a good day. :SM_carton:

Conference South,sitting.???????????

If the new investors are serious, about getting 700-800 into games.

This is not the way to go about it.

When did this regulation come in.

I cannot remember being told to sit before,in the Shed End.??????????????????

I'm only guessing when mentioning regulation. Whatever - probably a little more difficult to tell a few thousand to stay seated rather than a couple hundred! :)

What's the answer longer term though? Get rid of the stand?

You're absolutely correct - the lads really dug in yesterday and got what they deserved. Staggered by the petty reaction from the security but the guys were under orders from a club official. Sad thing is some of the guys who were targetted were the same lot who have been out fund raising, buying food on away days for the lads and helping the club. Perhaps a bit of discretion and common sense required on the part of the club? First time in a while that the atmosphere has been upbeat in the ground, took the shine off the day for me.

Isn't this short memory syndrome! Didn't the stewards in the previous regime get criticised as well? At the end of the day, whether we like it or not, they, unfortunately because of incidents years ago and nothing to do with the level of football and crowds we see at Treyew, have instructions to follow. Whether we like it or not, the fact that City won, their first win for a while, should be the main talking point :)

You have got it in one.

The majority of those people who left the stand, are the heartbeat of the Club, and along with others, made hefty donations to SaveTruroCampaign.

People seem to have short memories.

Most of those supporters who left the Stand, will be standing at Farnborough next week cheering the boys on.

I travelled back on the train with an AFC Hornchurch supporter, he told me they stood in the same stand (to the left) throughout the first half with no requests to sit down by the stewards, maybe with the shed end 'bouncing' after City scored and the stand only a temporary structure had something to do with it.

No one can dispute attending Treyew Road is already a much better experience, there may be a few teething matters but who thought we would be able to watch 'Sky' television in the clubhouse this season with all the issues surrounding the club let alone on FOUR screens.

Early days, I hope no one is put off attending the next game.

Lets hope they can kick on from this. All the players clearly want to be there it would be great to see them beat the drop after being deducted points. More wins could bring back more fans and therefore more money. Hope to see more good performances like this
