Michael Rabone
Newquay 1 - 0 Perranwell Mount Wise hasn't been a happy hunting ground for Perranwell in recent years and a very well organised Newquay side took all three points courtesy of a late Orrin Crowle goal. Newquay were confident that they could capitalise on Perranwell's defensive frailties and just had the edge during the opening encounters. Perranwell managed to carve out two excellent opportunities in the first half and if Jake Harvey had his shooting boots with him, the game may well have been out of sight by half time. Newquay welcomed back Matt Willmott and he nearly made an immediate impact, driving through the Perranwell defence, only to be halted by what looked like a trip in the box. The referee waved play-on and within a matter of minutes Perranwell looked to have a reasonable shout for a penalty, however, the outcome was the same and a goal kick was given. Shaun Lawrence had a couple of sighters from range but Newquay were unable to carve out an opportunity to go in front. It isn't very often that the Brewer brothers have a bad game, so for both players to be off-form on the same day meant that Newquay had a very presentable opportunity to beat Perranwell at home for the third season in a row. Shane Easterbrook in the Perranwell goal looked uncomfortable and was unable to gather much that went his way and Orrin Crowle and Jamie Tipton worked hard for little reward in the opening 45. The main talking point from the first half related to a former Perranwell player, Lee Hazeldine, who mistimed a challenge on Steve Brewer and was fortunate to only receive a yellow card. Hazeldine clearly needed no extra motivation for this encounter and a few choice words were shared between benches. In the opening fifteen minutes of the second half Newquay maintained a large share of the possesion and if it wasn't for a scrambling Shane Easterbrook, Newquay would have taken the lead. Jamie Tipton had two presentable opportunities to open the scoring but his efforts went unrewarded. It appeared that the game was heading for a draw until a long ball found the lively Orrin Crowle, he still had a lot to do but managed to hold off the Perranwell centre-back and lifted the ball over the onrushing Easterbrook. With a matter of minutes left on the clock, Perranwell pushed forward and Matt Rose headed tamely wide when well placed to hit the target, Mike Brewer hit the wall with a free-kick from the edge of the box and Ieuan Boon headed agonisingly wide after a series of Perranwell corners. A couple of off the ball incidents followed and the referee took appropriate action to calm things down. Newquay had James Merrikin to thank with a couple of late saves, the back three held Perranwell at bay and given that this Perranwell side scores goals every week, it was an excellent clean sheet for the Newquay back line. Overall, an excellent and closely fought game, Newquay will be very pleased with the three points and Perranwell will be disappointed to lose points in the pursuit of the title. Man of the match - Shaun Lawrence. Attendance -

Pitty
Holmans 0 v 1 Porthleven Attendance 15 Close game with both sides guilty of a number of missed chances to take the lead. Only goal of the game came in the 70th min when Holmans lost possesion in the porthleven half and some quick slick passing from the away side created the opening to give Holmans keeper Paul Williams little chance. Full credit to referee Nigel Nicholls who controlled the game well in difficult circumstances due to the death of a close friend this morning who was a former Duchy FC player. Both sides held a minutes silence as a tribute to a former cornish footballer prior to kick off

Dave Deacon
Ludgvan manager resigns. Oh dear, played 17, lost 17! The way things are looking, they're going to be hard pushed to even better Marazion's disastrous season of 1993-94 when they failed to win a game and finished with just one point! Played 36 0 1 35 Goals for 11 goals against 204 Point(s) :1. Needless to say they finished bottom, 19th out of 19! Mind you when Ludgvan finished bottom themselves, 20th, in 1998-99 they went the season without winning a game as well. Did draw four though! Played 38 0 4 34 27 173

Michael Rabone
Cheers Donkey. I have to say that I really feel for the Ludgvan lads. They turn up week in, week out, knowing that they are unlikely to get a result and their manager makes the decision to walk due to the factors described in the recent thread. I really hope that they have a change in fortunes because they seem like a decent bunch of lads. I know that Newquay went through a patch where they finished in the bottom three for a number of consecutive seasons and I know how hard the lads found it. There's always a lot of talk about the flair players and the best combo team, but to be honest with you it is lads like the Ludgvan lot that keep coming back, every week with very little to motivate them, that also deserve credit. treasure parks no 1
St Day 3 - 0 Penzance this game was a lot closer than the result says, the game was 1 -0 until the last few minutes. Penzance had the better of the earlier exchanges with spud our reserve keeper the busier. St Day then started to get on top and where rewarded for their endeavor with a well worked goal with Perran Cook driving the ball into the bottom of the net fro 18 yards.Penzance had to do a lot of defending for the rest of the half with goal line clearences and their keeper having to make several saves. The game petered out in the first half with St Day definatley on top with Penzance having a few half chances especially the free kick outside the box which hit the crossbar.(ht 1-0) The second half saw Penzance push more forward and created a lot of problems for the St Day defence which was defiant all the way through the second half with last ditch tackles and saves from the keeper. St Day had a few breaks in the second half catching Pz on the counter using our pace up front with Lee Duffield having an excellent game and causing the pz defence all kinds of trouble with shots and great saves from the pz keeper who was excellent on the day.The second goal did arrive finally with a well made goal from St Days right with the ball falling to Duffers who cooly slotted home. The final goal came from a bad challenge by Darren Holsey who gave away a penalty for a challenge on Lee Gribble which everyone saw coming as Darren was getting more and more frustrated.Perran cooke slotted the penalty away and that was the fourth penalty they have conceded to us in two games. I would like to thank Rob and his team who where gracious in defeat and wish them all the best for 2009.

Guest Monty
The former Duchy legend who died saturday morning was Anthony Webb otherwise known as long haired webby. My heartfelt compassion for his family at this sad time and it was only last year he lost his brother in a motorbike accident on Treluswell.
