Sadly we received written confirmation that they wished to withdraw team this morning .

Unfortunately they were relying on dual signed players from Duchy league teams to help them out when short ….a situation that was never going to work with drier pitches and those teams playing as well now each week .

They hope to regroup and apply for entry again next season .

It is a real shame to see another club fold, especially being so close to the end of the season. It is unfortunate that the points for their two remaining games were not just awarded to the opposition (as unable to raise a side) to see out the season rather than resetting previous results. By the looks of it, this could have a knock-on effect with the final league standings.

There are always winners and losers in this situation. And the league committee were damned if they do-damned if they don’t.At the top of the table only Probus and St.Ives had dropped points so as things stood and points were awarded from now for forfeited games they could dem they were disadvantaged. At least this way it’s even everything out.

Youve got to feel sorry for Danny Ford though. His 7 goals in what was surely one of the Trelawney leagues craziest ever games Caharrack 16 Tregony 7 will now be erased from the record books.

Hopefully Tregonniggie can regroup and come back stronger in the future

It's always hard for an outsider like me to understand how a club, that has completed all but their league programme has to withdraw so far into the season. I guess it shows how poorly off they must be for players with only two leagues to go!

Dave, the season has been tough fielding a side, the reason for the late late withdrawal was the team had already received 2 £50 fines for failing to field a team and lost their league deposit. The club has JUST enough money to re-start if they get back on their feet in the off season. Should they have continued and been awarded further fines for not fielding a team, then next year would have been made even more difficult than it is now. Ironically one of the last two games was Culdrose, we had a full team for that match, but they were given a break due to lack of players. The club hopes that next season we will have a team of committed players to re-start, Andrew and Jake done all they could to get a team on the field and hopefully they will be rewarded with commitment next year and we can then reapply. Looking for committed players next season if your interested.

It is what it is, teams that are relying on dual signed players shouldn’t be participating in the competitions, too many using this loophole to manipulate games and fixtures to give themselves an unfair advantage, get rid of the stupid rule and move on.

You got to admit, even in Cornish football Penzance agreeing to that is pretty humiliating.

Would say expectant of Penzance but not humiliating, hardly used any players from Helston this season really as they’ve managed to bolster a settled squad for the majority.

Yes a pathetic attempt at a “project” your point being?

Just because it’s Penzance doesn’t mean I agree with it! Penzance as with many other Clubs use first team players as and when the need suits.

Expand

So your comparing Penzance, a club with 2 teams, based in a large town, paying players and in a partnership with one of the biggest set ups in Cornwall to Tregony a village side who lost a bundle of players with only a couple of matches played this season. Then begged and borrowed players for the remaining matches and fell short with a few games to play. They didn’t set up to borrow players, but when larger clubs  poach your players, what can you do.

Fair play to Andrew and Jake for all the time and work they put it. Being one of the dulll signed players they done the best they could. Had a small squad to start with after players leaving, manged to sign a few then lost 3 mid season to getting jobs in Portsmouth. another having a child and then injuries! used the “loop hole” to get games done while trying to recruit players and recovery of injured players. Hope they come back next year with the work the social club has put into it with the new changing rooms

I'm sure most of us wish Tregony the best for going again next season. Just a thought though on how the proposed new set-up for the Cornish based leagues will affect things for next season - presumably it will become even harder for clubs from the current St Piran level downwards to find their own players?

I like to think that the reverse may happen Dave… players will want to play regularly still and won’t be able to jump around like they have for the past many years…  7 days and transfer payments will make it awkward to manage at club level and clubs will want people that can commit… a player won’t sign as a “peripheral” player now the ability to play each week for a variety of clubs will be removed… I think the result will be well-managed smaller squad lists, possibly the demise of some reserves or thirds … which naturally occurs …. Club mergers will help things along too… higher level players regularly playing lower levels will raise the standard in those levels … not all doom and gloom
