Kernow Stone League Cup:

Hayle 4, Illogan 2.

Can't say I dislike a 2.00pm kick off when there's no extra time: early arrival at home and a toast in front of an ecologically unsound log fire by half-past four!

Another thundering game of footy at Hayle - they certainly seem to deliver!

1 - 0 on 23mins - 'keeper parried first shot but couldn't get to the rebound. Pen saved by home 'keeper on 30. Hayle hit a post on 33, then went 2 - 0 up on 36 as a defender slipped on the treacherous surface (no fault of Hayle's pitch - it was lashing with rain.) Then Illogan hit the bar on 37, and pulled a goal back in the second half on 56, this time a penalty that was scored. On 71 it was 2 - 2 as an Illogan player ran from an onside position with all eyes on a team-mate who was in an offside position but was running back and making no attempt to join in the game: so, game on. Then a bit of individual brilliance from a Hayle boy to make it 3 - 2 on 75, Illogan hit the bar again on 77, then Hayle made it hard for Illogan to come back on 84 with their 4th goal. All good stuff. I just wish (modern game stuff, this) that EVERY time a player made a dropping chest trap, players and bench wouldn't yell "HAND BALL!" Also why, every time a decent tackle went in, someone shouts "HEY!" as if they believed that a bit of contact automatically meant a foul (it used to be a contact sport in bygone days). Plus, the Illogan lad who got jostled in the Hayle box as the teams prepared for a throw (or was it a corner) - WHY did he fold up holding his back as if he had been assaulted? That was awfully sad to see. What was he trying to achieve (answers on a post card)?

Hayle's No 17 put in another steady, unhurried, solid performance at the back. He stands out. Illogan's No 8 was a busy lad, causing a lot of problems especially in the 1st half.

No Otis the cocker spaniel in the stand today - and I'd brought a couple of dog biscuits, too!

Nice to catch up with David James for a yarn: sorry not to have bumped into d.green.

You forgot Cameron Irish Hatrick , Matt Thomas  the other scorer for Hayle , good game end to end ,  good sports Aby and Chris for running  the line in those conditions  , persistently  rain in the first half , got drenched lol,  stand second half , good attendance  ,  good win for Hayle , another good write up Tom .

St Ives 4 v 3 St Mawgan

St Mawgan took an early lead against the run of play and St Ives managed to turn that into a 3-1 lead at half time, just after the break Josh Magin made it 4-1 with 30 minutes to go most teams give up not St Mawgan they went direct and they went forward in numbers and by the 80th minute it was 4-3 after two headers. The last ten minutes St Ives managed to get a foothold in the game again but St Mawgan pushed till the final whistle.

St Mawgan nice bunch, fair play for not giving up. best of luck to them for the season.
