Porthlevern Make New Signing From Penzance

The Penzance website says that Hugh Howlett has signed for them but cant see anything about strikers leaving the club.

Anyone know who it is?

Mewton has added to his squad on the eve of his side’s second consecutive Friday night fixture with the signing of Porthleven defender Hugh Howlett.

The only lads going anywhere are the ones that are not willing to look at theselves and wonder why they are not performing as they should be!

Good players but the answer is not always changing clubs!!!!!!

Hugh howlett strongly rumoured to be considered going Penzance or Falmouth rumour has it has been offered £80 game at pz and £40 to play with alan carey , i have this on very good authority

the striker maybe westy ???

I can't believe for one second Trevor Newton would allow his top scorer to sign for their nearest rivals. I think you need to check your authorities out!

Who do you think would leave ? I'm not going to name anyone as that would be unfair on the players who are currently with Port. Just for the record, there is no one at PZ that would get into my Newquay side (but I'm not the manager)

£80 a game lol, somebody`s been sniffing the white stuff if they thnk he`s worth £80 a game funniest thing i`ve heard all night.

Oh well I guess port had the better of the two centre backs in the end anyways... Burry is better than hewy in my opinion. :clapper:

Easily, anyday.

Spot on Darren, you couldn`t have summed it up any better, you realise who are your best players when you`ve lost a couple of games, the real players stay and work hard to turn it around. missed your boots in the last games for sure.

What a great piece of management at Porthleven this week ?? 1 manager 2 assistants and a coach couldn’t manage to say or do anything last weekend to stop Newquay getting what in the end was a deserved win. Then their manager blames it all on his players, decides to have a hissy fit and “make an example” of a couple by dropping them, whilst proudly boasting about the signing of a new striker in the local papers. Only trouble is in that same week he’s now lost one of his centre-halves to his fiercest rivals, at least one striker has gone and he could easily lose another. A “pyrrhic victory” for a Mr Marks I fear.

great comments arlen! not! you cant help but wonder what goes through some peoples minds when they quote like this!

If players move for amounts of money that cant be matched, what is a manager supposed to do, apart from wish that individual the best for the future. unfortanatley money talks, an here is another prime example.

And why would gary not want to strengthen our strike force as after all we are still in the fold to win the league!

WELL DONE ARLEN!

Ow...think I might have touched a raw nerve. Methinks "Transporter" may well be one of the aforementioned four gentlemen in the technical area. Incidentally players don't always leave just for more money, (otherwise you wouldn't be getting your new striker would you ?)

Biggest problem is we are in an era where players who recieve critism from their managers walk away from their team whereas older players who have been around for a bit will stick it out to prove their manager wrong. Football is one of the most simplest games going you walk in a changing room the manager tells you what he expects you to do, if you go out and do it and everything goes wrong it is down to the manager , do what you feel is right and it goes wrong expect a B********g. This is at all standards of football from the top to the bottom. If you are not in agreement with your manager discuss it with him at the right oppurtunity.

Paul Robertson played for Newquay in the Combo yesterday, he slotted in very well, got on really well with the lads and his quality was more than evident. Not only that, he was positive and upbeat and contributed to the already excellent team spirit. I seriously doubt that Paul will be playing many more games with us, but we will make the most of it while we have him involved. Regardless, his addition to the club is a real positive.

Paul looked settled straight away, he slotted home a penalty to equalise and always looked a threat going forward, especially when he executed an outstanding first time volley that hit the crossbar - we're still debating if it was over the line!

I guess his move makes sense living only a short distance outside of Newquay. It's great to have somebody of Paul's calibre at the club and I am sure he will have a positive influence on some of our talented young forwards.

And not a single mention of money...

You have pulled of the transfer of the january window if paul is or has signed for you from porthlevan he is a quality striker and a top bloke!!! and it only takes a month or 2 to be able to understand him properly!!! :P Enjoy having him in the combo side while you can cause if jim has any sense it wont be long before he is leading the line for the first team cause his pace and commitment to a cause are second to none!

It doesnt surprise me that paul has gone, He his a quality striker and he was made a scape goat like i was even though i was playing well, still bitterly upset with what happened at porthleven but hey ho football is a funny old game.

What happened at port

Something that happens everywhere in football, but more noticeable when dealing with goalkeepers!

First choice 'keeper gets injured, reserve comes in and plays well, even in this case praised in the open by the management, but when first choice 'keeper becomes fit, he comes back in. Even though reserve has not let the side down.

Sounds tough, but at the end of the day, that's why management are management, to make decisions on who they feel are best, long term, for the team.

That's a valid point Dave and one that is quite often overlooked. Sometimes we're all too busy having a go at managers for decisions they have made that we forget they are just doing what they think is best.

Dave,

Just for information i was never reserve team keeper at Porthleven i was signed from Falmouth town Res and i jumped at the chance to play a higher standard in cornwall, I was warned by numerous people that this would happen to me but decided to carry on and give it a shot, before signing for Porthleven i wanted to make sure that this was not going to be the case, and after speaking to Adrian Ferrell and Kev Richards because Gary Marks was on holiday i decided that it was a very good decision and made my debut Vs Wendron, Not once whilst at Porthleven was i playing badly and i was never spoken to about my performances only that i was playing really well and that the number 1 shirt was mine for Danny Burrows to claim back. Obiviously things where going on behind the scenes and i think Danny was on about leaving and thats when i was dropped without any positive criticism and no real explanation. I played a few games for the reserves and became ill during the match with Penzance Res and carried on for the whole game when shouldnt have, thats when i decided to call it a day for the rest of the season, might make a return next season but we will have to wait and see.

Ok I appreciate that as far as you saw it, and from what you have written, you were never told you were the "reserve team keeper" - but I believe Porthleven at the time needed a replacement 'keeper as their first choice one, Danny Burrows, was injured, and likely to be out for some time.

What happened to you Lee happens to outfield players all the time. However the difference is that they have more of a chance to get the opportunity to get back in as they do not play a specialist postion.

It probably wasn't a case of you playing bad, in fact quite the opposite because I know both Gary and Adrian were quoted in the media as praising you, however I believe most of us felt Danny was the first choice and once fit, it wouldn't be long before he was back in.

The games which mitchy was involved in, he really upped his game and probobly had some of the best performances to this day, I thought his attitude was excellent and If it turns out that we are succesful in any compitition his efforts should not be forgotten.

Having said that I do feel that Danny is a better all round keeper and has fully justified his position with numerous excellent displays.

But I would like to thank Mitchy on behalf of the players at Porthleven and wish him all the best for the future.

It cant be easy being a manager, having to make decisions that they personally feel benefit their team, and there will always be individuals that are going to be disapointed when these decisions are made.

Ive been on the receiving end many a time!!!!!

Dave and transporter,

Thank you very much for those positive words and hopefully i will be again playing between the sticks for someone. I totally agree that Danny is probaly a better keeper in some peoples eyes, but i was just grieved that it happened the way it did.

all the best for the Season.
