PERRANWELL  2-2  PORTHLEVEN

At last! Got to watch a game of football in dry weather! Brisk old evening come the end though! Light just about held out too 👍️ Really enjoyable game, thought the Well definitely edged the 1st half with Port piling it on at the end of the 2nd half. Very well reffed by Mr Andrew Barnett again, who thankfully didn’t add on 9 minutes stoppage time this game!! 🤔😲😀 great to see Dave Dodson this evening, running the line for Port, what a great ref he was by the way, One of the best down here for sure over the last 25 years? Spot on fair Lino as well, top bloke 👏🏼️

Four really good goals as well I thought, loved the first one after 8 minutes, the hosts stemming a visiting attack, Lachlan Brace knocking a ball up to Ben Rapsey’s feet on the halfway line, he held off two defenders, and laid a ball out right to overlapping full back Tim Senior who clipped a lovely pass over the top of the Port backline for Kanye Trevaskis looking as sharp and lively as ever to nip in between the centre half and keeper, head it over him and the alert Adam Selley ran in at the far post to finish it off! Great goal involving 5 players. It was pretty much end to end after that with Port equalising from a free kick out wide left of the area after 23 minutes when the tricky Harry Blatch low curler flew inside of the far post through a crowd of players.

The hosts responded really well with Brace hitting a 25 yarder just past the post and Rapsey hitting a shot across the keeper which he did well to save down low to his right at the far post. The 2nd half continued to be entertaining with Jude Warr a talented midfielder for Port (bit like his dad Steve in his day) and they had the luxury of throwing on Liskeard striker Charlie Young for the last half hour and they soon went ahead when Fraser Patterson lashed a great finish into the roof of the net from a narrow angle. The best goal of the match was probably saved for last though when just a few minutes later Perranwell drew level with Selley producing a superb dipping volley from the edge of the area giving Ports impressive teenage keeper no chance, sorry for the lack of name, watch out for him though, made some very good saves 👏🏼👍

Port pushed for a winner last 10 minutes but Steve Maycock and skipper Dave Standing made some great blocks and tackles to keep Youngy off the scoresheet and Senior did brilliantly to clear a shot off the line. The Well almost had the last laugh though when Brace hit a screaming 25 yard free kick into the side netting but to be fair a point was probably the right result. Don’t think either team would have deserved to lose after the effort they put in. Great to see Port doing well again after their tough times a year or two ago, great club. And a good well deserved point for Perranwell after having the luck go against them quite a bit in the last few games

St Piran Prem

Illogan 0-0 St Day

Ventured outside of the Blaythorne catchment area to watch this absolute goalfest at Oxland Park between the top two placed teams in the division. A good sized crowd were in attendance lured into thinking the rare big yellow thing in the sky was going to provide some heat when in fact a polar bear would have been more at home due to the icy wind. The big yellow thing must have magically grown the grass which was at a length not seen since the back field of that scary aliens film with all the glasses of water and Mel Gibson in it! (Signs).

With the conditions of the pitch ’challenging’ this was not one for the football purists who had come to admire anything resembling Tika Taka Spanish World Cup winning 2010 football and a few robust challenges set the tone early for this local derby. No player was sent to the naughty step, although the County FA might be able to build that new facility at Bodmin with the proceeds from all the cautions. Illogan manager Mikey Pascoe was asked to leave the technical area but it wasn’t quite clear what he said to the ref to deserve it as Gerald from Clarksons farm wasn’t in attendance to act as interpreter, which meant nobody in the ground could clarify what he shouted across the pitch 😁

As for the game neither side had a real good chance on goal to separate the sides but undoubtedly St Day would probably be the happier of the two with the point as they chalked off another game which maintains their healthy points advantage.
