THEMAGPIE
Just out of interest regarding the infamous F-Troop, now making the step up into the Western League what are their chances of sustaining the supporter numbers throughout the season? It’s fine travelling to Penryn, Wendron and other localised fixtures but what about midweek trips away to the out of County teams, I personally can see the numbers dropping dramatically, it’s great having that atmosphere at your home games but it’s a long season and you’ll need the support on the road as well to be successful again. Will the support dwindle as well when the results don’t start going Falmouth’s way? Be interesting trying to rally a supporters bus away at Bitton etc when your at the wrong end of the table? Not saying Falmouth will be but we all know the saying “sing when your winning” and how they love you when the results are prosperous but disappear when it’s not going your own way on the pitch. Well obviously away trips won't be as quick and easy as Wendron and Penryn, but Helston, Mousehole, Saltash, Millbrook and hopefully Torpoint, all in Cornwall, will make up for that. We've taken good numbers to Buckland and Okehampton this season, so I think reasonable numbers will make the effort. We have a season of new adventures and new challenges to look forward to and I'm sure the Westy and the club will be focused on that. As for the home crowds, I think they'll be fine as people will have an opportunity to see new teams at Bickland Park. Nobody is under any illusions that the Western League will be an easy ride (not that the SWPL was a walkover), but we're looking forward to it. Looking at where the former SWPL teams finished this season, I don't see why Falmouth Town shouldn't be in the mix. It’s very unlikely that their away support will be maintained next season, distance being a massive factor. Although technically a home game, Truro struggled in attracting a good crowd to travel 50/60 miles to a home game. However, I think their home crowds will stand up well regardless of results, different teams and supporters focusing on watching home games rather travelling to every away game. They’ve certainly built up a committed fan base (as well as floating fans) over the last few years, despite Covid, which has been great for them and other clubs. The success of Helston, Mousehole, Saltash, Millbrook and Falmouth Town over last few seasons has been really good for local football, may it continue to drum further interest and bigger crowds next year. Likewise, one or two Peninsula League treasurers will also be counting the cost of missing out on this cash injection once a season. Just out of interest Magpie how do you see the fortunes of your own club Penzance going over the next few seasons .Following Joe Slovo's post over the weekend asking for anyone with anyone ideas / help to take the club forward ,are you the sort of person that could step forward to help revitalise this once great club .Could you be General Magpie to start up the P Troop .?🤔 Town Fan and Tommy Matthews

When times were good, my were they good but it seems they are currently in a position of uncertainty, undoubtedly looking for a young, enthusiastic manager who may be able to turn the tide over time with some new blood and ideas, still a fantastic place to play football for anyone so that still has to hold some weight player wise. Falmouth at the moment are the envy of many Cornish Clubs and rightly so but do take heed, the good times don’t last forever so cherish them as football is an unforgiving environment and holds no mercy regardless of anyones past. Falmouth should cherish these good times and make sure they are humble in success as the Gods of football often have a way of bringing you back down to earth. Only have to look back at their own history over the past 40 years or so. Town Fan

The current Falmouth management team have experienced both the bad times and good times already during their tenure, what with almost losing Bickland Park for instance. They are also aware of the club's rich history and have created a "Memory wall" in the corridor in the stand to remind all players, home and away, of where they are playing and what it means to play there. Hope everyone is enjoying it while it lasts as we all know that nothing lasts forever. Town Fan, Ian Pethick and mattelot

The club is self sustaining thanks to the hard work of the chairman and other hard working individuals behind the scenes . Not expecting a lot next year. ,think it will be a season of consolidation ,will be happy with mid table ,anything else will be a bonus and hopefully defend our senior Cup. Have spoken to quite a few F troop who are really looking forward to visiting new grounds ,more than confident we will fill a coach for every Saturday away game .
