Good game of football on a bumpy pitch with both teams trying to play football. Hope the lad who had to go off is okay. Draw a fair result in the end.

Yeah probably a fair result for both teams. The pitch was difficult to play on. We had three starters not available yesterday which left us short in the attacking third. But with how the game went we’ll take a point.

It was great to see Kevin Knowles reffing a trelawny league game, I did not expect he would be in charge of ours! Good to see him again though and looking forward to the reverse fixtures at Clijah (if that’s correct spelling)

Percy Stephens Cup 1st Round

RNAS Culdrose 1-7 Penzance Reserves

I bet the Fixtures Secretary will breath a sigh of relief that this final first round game has been played. A good game to watch for the 14 spectators.

Pz take the lead then give it away with an OG before scoring again to lead at the break. The Culdrose keeper made some great saves and blocks during that period to keep them in it, whilst at the other end Culdrose forced Jamie Millard to finger-tip a strong shot over the bar.

Two quick goals early in the second half almost put the result beyond doubt and the Airmen hardly had a look at the Pz goal from then on.

An injury to the home keeper forced a substitution which seemed to urge the home side on and they had their best spell of the game.  When it became 5-1, Pz brought on their subs to give them some playing time.

One of those was the old man of the side, Ben Carroll, celebrating his birthday with a 20yd volley, to score the sixth and his one-goal-a-season goal. Just before the end, little Matty Roberts scored with a scissors kick, the first I've seen scored by a Pz player for years.

Scorers for Pz, Ryan Weeks with a hat-trick, Matt Roberts, Ben Carroll, Dan Burt, TJ Price. As stated Culdrose's score was an OG.

Thanks to Culdrose for hosting us, and to referee Nick Kemp for officiating.

Next week, Px are home to St Just in the Lockhart Cup, whilst Culdrose travel to Constantine hoping to pick up 3 points in their stuggle at the wrong end of the Championship. With a lot of games in hand they should pick up enough points the avoid the drop.
