Truro City v Eastbourne Borough result - 3rd March 2012

Recommended Posts

Even the most ardent Truro supporter couldn’t come away from this one with too much to get excited about!

Even though it started promising with Andy Watkins looking lively early on with two shots on goal and an Aaran Pugh header going wide in the first quarter hour, from then on, for some reason, it all went downhill.

City’s loanee ‘keeper Ollie Chenoweth had to be on his toes to rush out off his line to break up an attack and then he made a great save, diving to his left, from Gary Hart.

The home defence was wobbling as Ellis Remy broke away only to lob over both Chenoweth and Truro’s goal and just after the half hour Truro got out of jail when Eastbourne hit the post.

Truro responded with Barry Hayles shooting wide from just outside the penalty area but on the 35th minute Eastbourne went ahead when Hart somehow got the better of Pugh and gave Chenoweth no chance. For a big lad, Pugh was so easily forced off the ball!

Hart should have got a second when Pugh’s afternoon got worse with a far too short a back pass to his ‘keeper, but after Truro once again failed to clear their lines, Matt Crabb finished perfectly to take Eastbourne in half time two up and well on course for their first league win in 11 games.

After the break, the visitors continued to look the more likely to score with Crabb miscuing a volley and Remy hitting the post.

Ten minutes after the interval, manager Lee Hodges changed things with Marcus Martin and Stewart Yetton coming on for Adam Kelly and Joe Broad.

Watkins would have wished for a kinder bounce when the ball came his way at the far post header just passed the hour and Scott Walker saw his free-kick get over the opponents wall, but over the cross bar as well.

Yet another basic defensive error, this time from Barry McConnell, allowed Crabb a run on goal but the No 11's effort was saved, and then another defensive slip allowed in Remy but luckily for City the ball took a bad bobble before the striker shaped up to shoot.

Ten minutes from time, a stretching Yetton just couldn’t get any power behind a close range effort, while the tireless Watkins turned and shot over.

For Eastbourne, they will make the trip home thinking this win is just what they needed to start moving them up the table, while City’s Hodges knows only too well that he has a massive task on his hands to lift the spirits and ensure that City avoid being sucked into a relegation fight.

Still in with a good chance of relegation? Is it 4 down?

Isn't it nice to be missed or is DARA short of friends?

I was on the Cornwall Senior Cup thread posting about conflict of interest,

at home doing my weekly wash. housework and much much more.

I think tiredness is catching up with the team due to a small squad, injuries, suspensions

(Conference South has more bookings/sending offs than any other British League) and

excessive travel.

Our opponents complain about one trip to Cornwall, a journey Truro City does 21 times,

plus extra for cup matches. As supporters we appreciate the mountain our players have to

climb.
