Guest Moorzy
Wots the story with the 'Sports Bar' at the ground not having sky anymore to watch the sport. Seems very strange, and was disappointing on saturday not being able to watch soccer saturday up the 'Sports Bar' after leaving the pubs in town especially to go up there and watch it. City Fan
The club hasn't had Setanta for ages, but they did have Sky the last home match. Maybe they aren't bothering, I mean spending all that money on sports channels when the club house is only open for a few hours a day.
Magic Mike
sky in bars and for public broadcasting is actually very expensive as far as i am aware, you dont pay the normal subscription rates, you pay larger much more expensive ones!! read the article in this link sky in bars costs approx £15000 per year on average http://www.almr.org.uk/presspdfs/76.pdf
Guest ted
jonesy. i dont feel your comments are at all fair. matt has played in decent teams in decent senior lges over the years and as far as im aware you have played no higher than fhl lge i really dont think you shud be critising a players abillity just because they have left your club for what ever reason. people in glass houses and all that. Lafs
Im not sure we know each other Jonesy and to be honest its irrelevant even if we do, but I also feel your comments towards Moorsy are harsh, far too personal and beyond just giving your opinion. Guest Peppermint
I totally agree with Lafs that this attack on Matt Moore is uncalled for and when I have seen him play he has looked far better than a Junior Footballer. Good luck to him wherever he plays in the future. Regarding the origiginal topic - Sky are becoming increaingly greedy and especially with Clubs and a lot of them have opted for other systems because of the spiralling costs involved. Newquay Football Club amongst them and to denigrate Truro City for opting out is not fair as they are obviously being prudent.
Lafs
I can certainly understand the reasons behind such a decision for any commercial site deciding to remove Sk Sports as I took the decision to remove Sky Sports from my premises in 2005 as their annual subsription charges reached an incredible £25,000.00!! To add to that they were also demanding a further £1995.00 on top of that for the Prem Plus season ticket in that season!! I needed to sell 20,000 pints of lager JUST to cover that cost alone!! For those that dont already know, the annual fees are basically calculated by your Rateable Value but how they justify my annual fee of £400.00 in 1998 jumping to £25,000.00 in 2005 totally defeats me, as my Rateable Value certainly did not jump in line with this! One word.....CRIMINALS.
St Darren
Regardless of whether Sky is in there or not, its a shame that Truro City FC Bar is not the place it was. I'm not sure how often it opens during the week or anything, but it should be a place where supporters and locals alike can go and have a few beers on a Wednesday and have a bar snack or something like it used to be. Albanian TV or whatever it is, is the way forward to pubs nowadays!

From an outsider looking in, has Truro City FC just lost its soul with regards to its clubhouse not being the place to socialise in like it once was? St Darren
Lafs, are they saying that that foreign thing is illegal? I know they're not allowed to show Saturday games at 3pm but other times I thought they were alright. Its all over the place up country.
somersetspur
I can remember that place 15 to 20 years ago, with Peter and Mo Heayn the bar Managers, and Steve Massey the 1st team manager. They had two men's Dart Teams, one Womens Dart Team, two Pool Teams, two Euchere Teams,a Sunday League Football Team, plus a Ladies Football Team. That place had something going on every night,it was buzzing.

Lafs
Your right St Darren, these systems are everywhere further up Country as is often the case when there is a new craze- its usually everywhere before it becomes popular or available down our way. But the number of Licensees being prosecuted up there are fast increasing. Basically BSkyB have employed the services of a Legal Co. called MPS (Media Protection Services) who go into Licenced premises to identify those who use such foreign satelite systems, and serve threats of prosecution on Licensees in hope they will abandon the systems they have bought legally from reputable company's and return to Sky. At the start of this campaign they did this to a Karen Murphy- licencee in Hampshire I believe- who in return has contested the allegation and has recieved the backing of the larger reputable company's supplying these systems, to finance the legal costs of fighting the prosecutors. This case is currently at the stage of European High Court after the British legal system could NOT reach a verdict. "Murphys Law" as this case is commonly known is expected to set the precedent for many Licensees across the Country but in the meantime MPS have already taken many to Court and Licensees have pleaded guilty for a more lenient verdict and avoid larger fines and risk licences revoked. These foreign satelite systems are available from Greece, Italy, North Africa and Albania etc etc and as the Murphy case currently sits with EU High Court, the verdict will dictate whether Licensees using systems that are produced by EU Countries are illegal or not.....systems that are not from inside the EU are deemed to be illegal already! Confusing? Interesting? Couldnt careless? Either way BSKYB have the monopoly and the power and fewer Licenced Premises are able to continue to afford to show any kind of sport and I would assume Truro are no exception to this if their numbers have fallen. MOUNTAINEER
It is crazy that whilst not being able to watch live games on TV at 3 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon even through Sky or Setanta, we can do so FREE on our p.c via the my2p2.eu or justin.tv links plus many more. later today all the Premiership games are being shown also the Burnley v Swansea game, with most European Countries are having their winter break there are still more than 80 live games to pick from this week, even Chelsea RESERVES. pete dillon
I see there are still individuals who love nothing more than to come on here having a childish swipe at Truro City - it is all rather pathetic considering they are playing at a level no other cornish club as ever reached and giving many as their average attendances this season have proved (400 plus) the chance to watch Southern League football even when in cases like myself I can only get along to Treyew Road when my own club have no game or in midweek etc......This is one footy fan who admires what they have achieved not least the F A Vase success which despite what some on here say HAS given recognition to the county as i find out when speaking to other fans around the country - long may it continue - looking forward to the next visit........keep up the good work TRURO CITY...... Richard Chown
Carharrack AFC clubhouse must be quite luckly then we have both Sky Sports and Setanta Sports and as a result means alot of players from other clubs in the area come in to our clubhouse after matches to watch live football which only benifits the club. City Fan
Speaking to someone at the club last night, the club opens 5pm - 9pm most nights of the week, but the amount of people coming in doesn't match what it used to. There are also less truckers using the facilities these days, so it's not really viable to have the club open all the time, and I expect with Sky being withdrawn due to low customer numbers, and most pubs having Sky/Setanta in town, and cheap beer, that people won't trudge up the road on a winters night to watch a match if it's on in Bunters or William IV, and the beer is cheaper. In all honesty, I am wondering if the fire that occurred in the club house back in 2004 had happened now, whether the club house would have got the redecorating it had back then, or would there have been a whittled down version of the club house, and not what's there now? It does seem sad that trade isn't what it used to be, I can remember prior to the fire, the club house being a members club, on a Friday evening was quite busy, and people would go regularly.
