Mining League Result 29/11/08

Recommended Posts

St.Just 1-3 Gulval (HT 0-2)

A much closer game than the score suggests, with St.Just again missing a hat-full of chances with both Damon Nicholls and Jack Willis missing 6 glorious chances between them, some from a mere 8 yards out!

Jack Liddicoat's performance made the difference for a Gulval side, who even with Jowan May upfront (whom was kept quiet by Terry Sturgeon and Marcus Scotts, a mere 87 years between them), didn't create as many chances as St.Just did.

The difference between the 2 sides was that Gulval took their chances when they needed to. 2 good finnishes and the 3rd goal was a corner that was helped in by St.Justs 16-year old goalkeeper.

St.Just against the wind in the 2nd half had 70% of the play, but couldn't hit a barn door from five yards until the last 5 minutes when Joe Sturgeon squeezed the ball in.

With St.Just pushing, Gulval looked deadly on the break and with better judgment of the final ball, could of sealed the game off alot earlier!

Mining League Div 1.

Storm ( Praze ) F.C 3 .v. Trevenson Utd 1

Very much the proverbial game of two halves. Storm playing some good football in the 1st half and using the pace of the front line to create a number of chances. Trevenson couldn't seem to get going and had little to shout about in front of goal. Maybe it was taking a little time to gel some fresh faces into the 1st team. The reserves fixture against St. Buryan was postponed to enable the 1st's to bolster there squad, with a few 2nd team regulars making ther first team bow. A free kick from wide on the right saw Storm score there first goal, one of there players coming in on the back post unmarked and side footing it into the net. The second came when Trevensons 'keeper got down to smother a low cross and unfortunately fumbled it into the path of the Storm forward.

Second half and Trevenson were much improved, young Dan from the reserves came on to good effect on the right in front of Simon Curtis who played off each other well. We started to gain more useful field position with Justin Carbis controlling the back line and Simon Beaton was tackling well and playing the ball around in midfield. We were starting to create some chances as well and forced a few corners which ended in a handful of half chances. Storm were still dangerous on the break and scored a third when the ball came into the box that wasn't cleared and there player hit the ball into the side of the net. Trevensons goal came from a corner, Luke Abbot Smith knocking the ball in and Justin Carbis flicked it into Anthony Curnow on the line who just changed the direction of the ball to score what proved to be just a consolation.

St Just 1 Gulval 3

A slightly one sided view of the game 1ofthekids. Gulval were never in danger of losing the game only a little complacent when St Just had the ball. A few very heavy clashes left 1 centrehalf leaving the field with a possible cracked rib.

Not taking away any credit from the spirited younsters at St Just it is good to see so many on the pitch.

The return leg will be looked forward to I can assure you.

Gulval res 3 storm res 7

Good game played in excellent spirit Storm leading 3-2 at halftime in a closely contested game, however at half time with a few tactical changes Storm came out and completely took control of the 2nd half playing some seriously impressive stuff, probably our best performance of the season to beat a good Gulval side who made it a good competition by playing football throughout.

All at Storm would like to thank Rhonda and the rest of Gulval not only for the aftermatch food but for Rhonda refereeing, probably one of the best refs we've had all season in a game without a single bad tackle.

Both Storm sides only had bare eleven this weekend so six points are fantastic return.

Right result, best team won today. We had to make a couple of changes from the last 2 weeks, but no excuses. Well done to Rhondda for reffing. Great performance. Shame your team didn't put in the same. Gulval are disappointed, but we'll be back again. Storm played some very good football today, knocked it around well. We found out that you can't play football without the ball!

Shame about our goal that wasn't a goal. I believe that it did go in (apparently) but hey ho, it would not have changed the result. (You didn't think that I wouldn't mention it!!). Well done to Storm, and thanks for staying for a beer too.

Thanks Matt. If games were played in that spirit every time, we would have more that enough Refs.

Storm were the best team we've come across this season & certainly gave us a reality check.

Good bunch of lads, good football played, apart from the result, this is what junior football is about.

Mining 2

Holmans 3rds 0-1 Illogan 3rds

The battle of the 3rd teams saw Illogan take all 3 points after a shot from Ben penberthy was deflected into the net by Holmans defender Carl Streton. A full blooded affair the game was never pretty but both sides played fully commited.

Just like to point out that our clubhouse is right next to the ground as Illogan must have got lost and obviously couldnt find the entrance to come in for a drink!!!!!!

Illogan RBL 10 - 0 Four Lanes

A well deserved win for Illogan who, as the scoreline suggests, were dominant from start top finish. We, Four lanes were far too sloppy with our passing and tracking runners. Just the simple football was far superior throughout the Illogan side. Nilsson Callaway, Gareth pitt and Curly all pulling the strings. We just did not create enough opportunities but even more disappointingly, did not work anywhere near hard enough without the ball. Daniel Kascmarek making his debut for us in goal was to thank for the score not being 4 or 5 more. Definately a day to write off and look forward to putting things right away to Storm next weekend, of where a positive response from the players is expected!

Good luck to Illogan for the rest of the season. Anyone who can finish above them will be league winners.

Wendron Res. 0-3 Cornish New Boys.

Can't understand these guys being at the foot of the table, they gave it 100% and made life hard for us all afternoon.

Wendrons keeper was outstanding making save after save several being 1 on 1's. A really really nice group of guys and ref was spot on too.

Thank you wendron for a very good game, i really enjoyed it. ( well apart from the artic conditions, it was freezing). Gaff (cornish)

if you watched the game then you would see what dodgy decisions the ref was giving, the first goal came from a free kick which given as indirect which floated into the net with no one touching and he allowed the goal, ref about 60 years old and playing from the rule book he was given when he turned 18!!!!!!!!!

If it was an indirect free kick, the referee would have raised his arm - as he explained but his arm wasn't raised so it wasn't an indirect free kick

Yeh I did and I can't remember what the free kick was for, maybe bundithegreat would be able to enlighten you.

Portreath were reduced to ten men after someone couldn't keep his opinions to himself on more than one occasion. Also the shout of "should have gone to Specsavers" from the sidelines towards the ref did get a bit tedious

Guest bundithegreat

the free kick was for obstructing the player on the ball, your player tapped in round him and run into him!!!!!

it was me getting sent off because i get worked up when your losing knowing your team and under performing and its all part of the game i agree with my first yellow card, but the second one was because a foul throw was commited i appealed for it and the ref said lets not stop the game for something that silly and turned away and said "for f*ck sake' he said he was booking me again for foul language but not towards him coz it wasnt which he agreed on, but surely if that was the case maybe there should have been 15 yellow cards issued that game, not just to portreath but mount aswell?????

The referee's I believe are instructed to clamp down on foul language whether it's aimed at someone or not - I remember Dominic Pullen being sent off at Helston for Falmouth when he was cursing his own bad luck at missing a sitter

then surely if he was to use that rule on me why not issue anymore coz i heard lots of swearing going throughout the game and from both sides??????

if refs are supposed to be clamping down on it then the rule should be applied to everyone???

it was a good game yesterday apart from that and the mount guys deserved to win for sure, the guy you got upfront nick i think, was by far the best player out there and should be playing higher level, hope you can keep hold of him and stuart at the back was solid so well done on the win, roll on saturday newlyn away yippee!!!!

i cannot remember nick crying to the ref at all? all your defenders did all game was kick him if he did say something to the ref he would have had a good point.

nico who also plays upfront is a very good player too him and nick are both on 14 this season and if you look how many goals mount ambrose have they have pretty much all of them between the two on them.

hopefully mount ambrose can keep there keeper for the weekend he looks very good in goal would be nice to see them climbing the table at long last!

Thanks fella, your boys were a credit to the league and we fully appreciate the sportsmanship shown and the socialising after the game. Mamgle mentioned the "disallowed goal" in his response to your original post and I will tell you in no uncertain terms that the ball DID NOT CROSS THE LINE. I was pretty much standing on the back post and could not have had a better view. So NO GOAL  .

I hope your keeper is not too sore after our collision when I scored our third goal?. I don't mind admitting that my ankle is killing and my shin is bloody sore aswell :( . That's football though and both of us were only going for the ball, I just wish I was his size instead of being half of his size and then I'm sure I wouldn't be hurting so much now :( ..

All the best for the season. :c:

As an ex-Trevenson player it is always nice to get a win against them so good times! (I think it is fair to say that we could have been out of sight by half time but for a few miseed chances, but Trevenson played well in the second half).

Unfortunately, it is made even sweeter as a result of some of the abuse that comes from the Trevenson crowd. We have some quick, tricky players in our team, which I understand can frustrate people. However, when the crowd suggests that their team aims to seriously hurt the opposition then this is a bit stupid in my eyes. It's a shame to see such a good club going the way that it is!

The players from Trevenson were more than sporting and I wish them well against all other opposition.

Spice 3 v Halestown 3

A point probably the fairest result, Spice scorers D.Adams, M Barkle & B.Adams.

yes probably a fair result in the end but could have been different if we had taken one off about six chances in first twenty minutes, spice then scored with first meaningful attack, we also had let off with spice missing pen, also dissapointed that we conceded with about 5 mins to go from a long punt down middle that both our central defenders managed to miss, but all in all a fair result, must add i thought the ref who was 16 ? 18? did really well and thanks for stepping in at last moment.

I have to say Dave that what you have just posted is extremely unfair and not particularly truthful. We take a lot of support to games and our "crowd" have always been sporting and generous in defeat. I hate to burst your bubble but your name or anyone elses was not mentioned in the changing room as someone to hurt or even be wary of. Also I didn't hear a single person on the touchline asking us to hurt someone. The game produced one yellow card (me) which was for a "not so good tackle" on a chap I don't even know. You obviously took a lot of pleasure from Saturday - which is ok - but to gloat about a former team - who by the way looked after you very well - which is seeing rough times at present is a little low mate. And by the way, I say this as I consider you to be a good friend.

I just said what I heard and what our wingers told us at the end of each half, after playing in front of them. I never even suggested that my name was mentioned in the changing room, and anyone who knows me will know that I am not arrogant enough to suggest that mate!

I have lost one game against trevenson since leaving, which I was reminded about constantly for days afterwards, we have won the onther 3 and you will rarely hear me mention them! I think the picture you just painted of me in that post is quite false, and I do like to beat you boys due to the 'friendly banter' that I am normally part of. Perhaps you had some people on the sides that would normally not have been there (perhaps playing) who may have made the sour comments?

Obviously I accept your comments as a friend Sir! x

LOL.....Ok...I will put it this way...I sincerely hope that no comments were made from our crowd regarding hurting people...this obviously is unacceptable and not wanted by Trevenson or anyone else. I didn't hear anything personally...although this could have been because I was breathing so heavily!!! Anyway, between the players, the conduct was exemplary, I know I thoroughly enjoyed the game even though we got beat. I never wanted to suggest you were arrogant...I've known you too long to think that!! I wanted to point out that our team talk and conversations were about Trevenson and our strengths and what we had to do to win the game, we never discussed either prior the game or during the game about maming people or anything like it. I know you said it was the crowd, but a lot of these were in the changing room with us and I can assure Storm that "hurting" was not mentioned. By the way...you had a pretty good game yourself Sir x

I was too busy playing cat and mouse with Mr Beaton to notice much else, although I'm full of confidence after some decent performances lately so just kept working at it! There is always a good banter between the 2 teams, as 3 of us used to play at Trevenson.

Nice goal by the way! Though I thought Damo could have described it a bit better... like this... "As the ball was frantically moving around the Storm penalty area, with the Storm defenders trying to clear the ball, it took a moment of calm and sheer class from THE ROCK to cleverly disguise his shot, re-directing the ball past 3 or 4 Storm players into the back of the net with a subtle flick"

There you go mate, mutual respect! Love you x

Coopsie - thanks alot for the vindication as I was hobbling the line at the time and it definately did not go in, in fact only one of your players actually appealed.

Mate you showed extreme bravery going in for your goal and I was fully expecting to have to help pull you out of Ryans belly button.

If its any consolation his knee is hurting!!

Good luck for the rest of the season..

:D:clapper: .. Thanks buddy. I hope Ryan's knee is ok for this weekend and he's able to do yet another good job between the sticks for your boys. I have no idea where that bravery came from when I scored but hopefully it went down well with my manager and I'll keep my shirt this weekend.

All the best for the rest of the season mate and we look forward to coming to visit you at your ground next year.

definately some 'violent' suggestions from the trevenson crowd as i was there watchin. trevenson might do well to tell there players to time there tackles better rather than say 'break his legs'. hows that gonna help their cause?!
