Mike Odgers
Falmouth Town home to St.Blazey Perfect for a Friday night cup tie-could be a record crowd puller. Last season saw the best Throgmorton Cup gate (other than Final) of 279 when Penzance entertained St. Blazey also on a Floodlight Friday. What do you say 'Pidge'? Guest Peppermint
One interesting point regarding the draw was that the very first name out of the draw was Goonhavern and they were due to play Penryn but due to the uncooperative cricket team [Perranporth] the game has been switched to Kernick Road. Wouldn't it be a nice gesture by the cricket club if they just allowed that game to be played - but I suppose that is too much to ask!
Fiery Jack
Interesting Geography as well: Dobwalls is further west than Liskeard and yet they are in the Central area and Liskeard in the Western one.
Guest h8ymo
Fiery Jack, The reason Liskeard Athletic were in the West section is that they were the fourth most westerly Premier Division club along with Wadebridge Town, Flamouth Town and St.Blazey. The East section of the draw had five Premier teams in it and the Central section the remaining eleven. It isnt just a case of throwing all the clubs in a hat and coming out with any old boundary, it wouldn't be fair if only Falmouth Town went in the West section as it would be deemed they could potentially have a far easier path to Round Three than clubs in the Central section. I can assure you after more than a couple of visits to the duchy last year I am well aware of where Liskeard and Dobwalls are ! - is that bypass finished yet ? The example you have given of Dobwalls is part of the draw, we will try and change area's each year just to give clubs variety and from time to time there will be longer journies for some than others. The Central section is all about clubs from the East/West Divisions of the league playing each other, Dobwalls going to Marshfords being one along with Teignmouth/Millbrook, Buckfastleigh/Plymstock(!) & Stoke Gabriel/Camelford. Long lasting club friendships are built around games like these. My thanks go to Tanya of Godolphin Atlantic and Steve from Bovey Tracey for conducting a smooth draw. Hope this clears up your query Jack. Regards, Mark Hayman (SWPL cup draw organiser)

Bodmin Town? **** Also, do they get a bye into the Second Round as holders?

Fair observation Dave. we will try and change area's each year just to give clubs variety Not alot in it geographically but Wadebridge Town (Home to Stoke Gabriel and Home to Holsworthy)last year went in the Central block and Bodmin Town (BYE and Away to Hayle) in the West block, so as quoted previously, we will juggle around as the years go by. The top eight from the Premier Division were exempt from the first round and this included holders Bodmin Town, not exempt because they won the Cup. Dave Deacon
It's a shame that the First Round isn't an opportunity for the two Division Ones to play each other - West v East with the Premier therefore having a bye (numbers permitting obviously). I know some may say that the travelling is an issue, but it's only one game and after all, normally most say that its good to play someone else during the season. Looking at this season's First Round draw - it means sides from the same division meeting as follows:- WEST ROUND 1 Godolphin Atlantic vs Porthleven Newquay vs Mousehole Penryn Athletic vs Goonhavern Wendron United vs Penzance EAST ROUND 1 Axminster Town vs Exmouth Town Crediton United vs Royal Marines Ottery St Mary vs Budleigh Salterton CENTRAL ROUND 1 Foxhole Stars vs Callington Town Galmpton United vs Okehampton Argyle
Paul
Falmouth v St Blazey.....Excellent draw. O.k its a tough draw but winnable but its certainly one id like to see on a friday night as well. At least 2 car loads of intrested fans for this one already!! At least 2 trips to Bickland Park and a chance to meet with Mike and Pidgeon. So.....any chance of a friday night for this one, easily a chance for a crowd of over 300!!

Guest Phil H
The 2nd round matches will be played Week "Ending" 18th Oct so once the 1st Rd is played some will be bought forward to the midweek inc Friday night, Falmouth v St Blazey being an obvious but as yet un-scheduled game for that treatment. A reminder that games in the Throgmorton Cup are marking / supply league for referees and as such they have to have 3 officials, in order to achieve that some games are played midweek where finding 3 is easier and the remainder that are played on the Saturday are easier to find 3 for as their are less ties being played. As an example 6 1st rd ties midweek mean 18 officials can be re-used on the Saturday ! Phil H
