West Cornwall 7-1 TMS

Good performance for 70 minutes then we got a bit greedy and everyone tried to score. 3-1 half time playing into a stiff breeze, briefly 2-1 after a screamer from the TMS midfielder! TMS had a chance to make it 3-2 at the start of the 2nd half but blazed over an open goal from 18 yards. After that it was one way traffic and if not for some poor finishing/good goalkeeping, would of been a lot more. Superbly reffed by Luke Wilkes, kept up with play, let the game flow, and explained his decisions whilst always talking to the players throughout the game.

Mawnan 10-2 Gulval

Particular thanks to the Gulval secretary for reffing. In the end everyone wants to play football on a Saturday afternoon and with no appointed ref he stepped in and did a good job.

Shame to see a good club in Gulval struggling, with lots of players apparently having left from last season, but as a team they never gave up and as long they all stick together will come through it.

St Agnes 3rds 0-8 Mawnan Reserves

With 3 players calling off sick on the morning of the game and scrabbling around for players this was a great result for the 2nds and all those players who stepped up.

Div 3

Camborne Park 1 V Helston 3rds 3

Excellent win for us after 3 straight defeats. Our youngsters certainly stepped up to the mark and were superb all afternoon. We were 2-0 up in 20 minutes with goals from Fraser Paterson and the excellent Lewis Hall. Camborne started second half strongly and were back in the game when getting one back with in 5 minutes. But a fine solo effort from Chris Matthews secured the points. Thanks to camborne for the food and hospitalty and the birthday boys drink off!!.

Massive thanks to Anita Gittins who stepped into ref after getting a call at 2.15 after our original ref was taken ill, she refereed the game superbly.

Trelawny 5

St Erme - 2 Probus - 5

After last weeks junior cup tie it was back to the league and we hosted a very young and very decent side to castle fields, the game started with both teams and their 100% win records still in tact and so something had to give.

And it was evident why Probus have started the league and season so well, with a very youthful side full of talented players they set about their business causing the home side some problems with their pace and movement and without surprise took a 1-0 lead early on with some smart play and great finish.

The home side didn't start the game very well at all and were fortunate to get an equaliser from the spot, the penalty was a debatable one and Probus felt aggrieved after Jolly was fouled right on the edge of the box, the away side weren't happy but the ref said although the ball was won it was the follow through that he felt was warrant of a pen, it was a very close call but went the way of the home side, up stepped Dave Hill and tucked it away as usual into the bottom corner.

However this didn't dent the confidence on the youngsters as a great ball over the top was finished really well by their striker, 2-1 now and the game was starting to get stretched, however the home side struggled to create anything and were soon 3-1 down in similar fashion to the 2nd.

This seemed to spur the home side on and finally they started to play some neat football and from a great corner by the skipper Kyle Savin the ball was powered home by the head of Jolly to take the score to 3-2, the home side were very fortunate not to level the game as a powerful header by Hopkinson crashed back off the crossbar from yet another Savin corner, the ref blew for half time with the scores 3-2 to the away side.

2nd half started with the home side on the front foot and creating a couple of chances, but Probus held on in there and soon got the sucker punch as the home side were caught out and the ball was cooly finished over the stand in keeper to make it 4-2 and pretty much make the game safe for the away side.

However there was still time for a couple of penalty shouts that were waved away at either end by the ref, but credit to the home side did create a couple of great chances to find the net only to find the Probus keeper equal to them with some smart saves, as St Erme looked for a way back into the game by pushing on we were caught on the break again to concede and make the score 5-2, the clock ran down and the ref blew for full time.

Well played to a Probus side who will take some stopping this season, they have a great young side there who will do very well, as for the home side we brush ourselves down and go again next week away to Stithians.

Trelawney Division 2

Chacewater 4 - 4 Redruth UTD

Anybody who popped along to watch this would definitely have got value for money in what was an entertaining and evenly contested game, a few little flair ups but was overall (in my opinion) well reffed by last minute stand in Darren Letcher.

Chacewater took the lead early on with a neat finish which beat emergency goalkeeper Greg Wills (me), not long after came a good opportunity to double the advantage as I half cleared a cross which fell to the lurking striker, he took a touch and hit a good half volley. With the onlooking cameraman I felt I needed to make it look the part and threw myself at it full stretch, legs thrown away and full smile for him (in all honesty was a good save from a good strike). This gave us a little bit of a fire up and we proceeded to have our first spell of pressure in the game which then resulted in 1st an equaliser from Chris "the power" dower and then a well worked goal for Craig Board. Half time came at the wrong time for us as we had real momentum at this point.

The half time team talk about starting the second half strong and with holding the expected onslaught didn't work as shortly after the restart the emergency goalkeeper (yes, me again) made a hash of claiming an innocuous long ball as I slipped (genuine slip, not looking for an excuse) and dropped the ball to the strikers feet. This knock to the confidence and a few quick injuries led to a loss of shape which coupled with good pressure from Chacewater led to their 3rd goal. Almost immediately Nathan Jeffree hit the goal of the game, looking up and hitting a 35 yarder off the far post and in.

Chris "the power" Dower then added a 4th to look to finally win the game but Chacewater came again and their striker beat me all ends up with a belter from 25 yards, my only mistake this time is me shouting safe as it curled in the post.

All in all a very fair result, a few hand bags marring a good well contested game.

Score Correction: Arthur Pearce Cup

Storm Reserves 2 - 4 Newquay 4th (scorers: J.Burnell 2, Liam Rook, L.Wheeler - pen)

H.T 0-1

Newquay lead for the majority of the game but Storm recovered the 2 goal deficit with 15 minutes remaining. However a penalty and then a free kick in the last 10 minutes meant we progressed to the next round where we face a tough game against Wendron 3rd's (Div. 3)

Newlyn Lions 5-0 Falmouth DC

This game was on/off on/off all week, with no ref available, we finally agreed that I would ref just to get the game on. Only to get a phone call Saturday morning saying our pitch was double booked and Mousehole 3rds would be using it. So a big thank you to Zach at DC for hosting us again at Draceana, sorted at the very last minute.

The Lions somehow came in at half time 2-0 up when DC were probably the better side only missing that final ball in the last third. We had a few naughty challenges and a little bit of handbags in the first half but nothing serious, maybe a qualified ref would have dished out a few cards, luckily I haven't got any.

Second half started with Newlyn taking control and finally got our passing sorted out and we pretty much ran the half, scoring 3 more and creating a fair few other chances. DC's keeper pulled off 2/3 fantastic saves to keep them from a possible hiding.

Again, a big thank you to DC for agreeing to me reffing and then organising a pitch. They have a really decent bunch of kids there and I for one am glad we have played you early in the season as i'm sure they will be a strong unit towards the back end. Best of luck for the rest of the season.
