SteveG
The perfect end to an excellent week! Just think how good we're going to be when we get our goalkeeper problem sorted out! Awesome!
Goldeneye
Yeah, great result SteveG. If City can sort out their away form they will win the league by a distance. What do you think about the fact that there were no english players in their starting line up. Does it bother you or not? A few seasons ago, before the money arrived, City fans were boasting about their academy, but now it's never mentioned. Do they still attached any importance to it? Martin McHugh
I suppose with only 5 English managers and only 32% of english players playing in the Premier league its not a great surprise that England struggle to find young talent that can be nurtured at this level. isaac rosenberg
No. All the power rests with the big six in the Premiership and with the media magnates. Look what Murdoch did in completely changing the face of rugby league. Football is just a microcosm of the great evil that is capitalism, the logical outcome of which is monopolised power and mass poverty.
Martin McHugh
Money has ruined it and as a City fan I have seen good and bad over the last decade but I dont have the passion to follow it like I had years ago. Unfortunately the financial problem has now crept in to our level of football and is attempting to ruin that as wel!! MQx
stevieb
martin you are right about the money but pelegrine has bought well with the money made available to him , and all clubs would like to sign some of your stars but cant because of the backers can blast other clubs with the wages and contracts on offer , such is life i am afraid , city strike force on show and the players on the bench are what all other fans envy , i would love to see dzeko at arsenal but i know this wont happen a class player and cant even get in the starting eleven , arsenal have their own billionaire who owns a big chunk of the shares but is not even allowed on the board , would the gunners faithful welcolme him with his vast wealth to move the club to the next level ? i am not sure , i would welcolme him as he is a fan and watches most home games , but would the faithfull? city if they can sort out their away form they will become a real force over the coming seasons , arsenal need some more top class signings as all fans know as we have gone nearly 9 years without a trophy , we are not far away but need a little more class and depth to the squad

MQx I'm with you on that, I don't follow it like I used too, not even at local level. Prima donna's, overpaid and lazy - only play for themselves now. Martin McHugh
Time will tell with money, we have just cut our budget at Liskeard so bringing in the youngsters at our level is going to help but I doubt the bigger teams locally and in the premier league will look to adopt this!! I think you might find that monopolised power and mass poverty is the logical (indeed, the inevitable) outcome of the great evil that is socialism. Not to mention torture, enforced starvation, abuse of every kind imaginable, and mass murder.

A few seasons ago, before the money arrived, City fans were boasting about their academy, but now it's never mentioned. Do they still attached any importance to it? According to various media reports I have read the Arab owners are investing a great deal of money in the youth set up. This is one of the reasons they ended up parting company with Roberto Mancini, who apparently wanted to wave the cheque book constantly and saw no value in long-term planning. According to the sources I have seen the ultimate intention is to emulate the likes of Barcelona, who have a long and proud record of bringing brilliant youngsters through their ranks. If it all works out we will become much more self sufficient, and far less reliant on the transfer market. The problem is that this kind of forward thinking requires money, and lots of it, to make it into a reality.
baldy
Many English clubs have set up academies. Where are all the graduates? Don't see too many in the Prem.
SteveG
Money has ruined it and as a City fan I have seen good and bad over the last decade but I dont have the passion to follow it like I had years ago. Unfortunately the financial problem has now crept in to our level of football and is attempting to ruin that as wel!! MQx I can see your point, but I must admit that I can't agree with it. The City of old were a failed enterprise, and I know that as well as anyone else. I was there at Edgeley Park in 1997 when we were thumped by mighty Stockport, and in December '98 I suffered my lowest ever point as a City fan after embarking on a 700 mile round trip to York. The 2-1 scoreline did not do justice to how utterly appalling we actually were, and we couldn't have complained if York had stuck five past us. We ended the day in 12th position in what is now called League One. I would not want to go back to those days regardless of whether money has 'ruined' anything or not. There is only so much gallows humour a chap can take. Let's not forget, before the takeover we had an acclaimed youth academy under Jim Cassell that was widely regarded as among the best in the country. And how far did it get us? We never got a sniff of the League Cup, let alone the League title. The top four places were always filled by United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool............The clubs who had all the money, naturally. The football being played now at the Etihad is incredible. I could never have imagined that I could be so transfixed by seeing the game played to such an amazing standard, and especially not by a team in sky blue. Of course, we might finish the season without a trophy but, even if that happens, so what? This is fantastic football, beyond our wildest dreams, so sit back and enjoy the journey! Martin McHugh
I guess my frustration is more at our level and I dont want to hi-jack the posting so I will just say that I agree with the fact that we are playing some amazing football at the Etihad and at times it is unbelievable to watch but for me personally I dont really mind if we dont win any trophy`s this season just as long as we keep the squad and the manager for a few seasons. Too many managers are being binned due to lack of support from on high. MQx
