Truro given more time

Recommended Posts

Why do Truro City need more time to pay, if reading common tater's entry on the Forum dated 27th Oct,

Mr Heaney is quoted saying "we have Guaranteed them (HMRC) the money with Security",

if this is true why do Truro city need an extention, Just pay off the debt & be finished with the courts,

Maybe the truth is that Mr Heaney does not have the money, & he is playing for time,

Hammers :c::mellow: :c:

That's the problem, no ready cash, but possible future deals which have washed well with the court appearance today :-

The following had been taken from the thisiscornwall site..

" Truro City FC today won breathing space at London's High Court this morning until the New Year from moves by the taxman to wind it up over unpaid debts.

Registrar Baister adjourned the petition brought by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs against the club - which has advanced quickly up the leagues thanks to five promotions in six years, including winning the Zamaretto Southern League championship last season - until 16 January 2012 to give it time to pay.

Matthew Smith, counsel for HMRC, had sought an order winding up the club, telling the Registrar that it had made only a modest reduction in its undisclosed debt.

However, Stephen Schaw Miller, counsel for the club, told him that the position is that a related company is raising funds by potentially selling property, and might grant a third party an option to purchase the Treyew Stadium where the club plays its home matches.

He added: "There is also a possibility of outside investors investing in the club which will enable the debt to be paid."

In the light of that, and because it is the first time the winding up application has reached the court, the Registrar adjourned it until 16 January for "settlement" of the debt.

Failure to clear the debt by that date will likely lead to the club being wound up at the next hearing. This would effectively hand over the club's affairs to an Official Receiver, whose job would then be to do his best to ensure that debts are paid off by selling any assets available and then bringing business to a close."

"Related company"?

"Potentially selling property?"

"Might grant?"

"Third party?"

Nice to know our taxes (assuming you pay yours) aren't being wasted on top class lawyers to act for HMRC. If they fell for the above web of prevarication and smog they must have come down with the last shower!

So the club will continue as it has been going for the last few months. When will the players and others be paid up to date? When will the club stop alienating its support?

Another report suggested the "possibility" of "outside investors" coming into the club. Who in their right mind would put the necessarily huge sums of money into such a basket case of a club unless the current Chairman stood aside? It is a mammoth shame that a Cornish football club has reached the heights it has yet attracts such small attendances. One factor has to be the club's public image.

The appointment of a good PR person years ago would have worked wonders for Truro City.

Common Tater on your above post you wrote "one factor has to be the clubs public image" giving Truro a slating on here every five minutes is,nt exactly helping their public image is it? Far too many green eyed monsters. I personally have known Chris Webb at Truro for many years he is a great local lad and puts alot of time into Truro Football club has as his brothers in seasons gone by,not many players /officials can boast the loyalty he has given to Truro City FC when posting on here give a thought for ALL the good people within the club not just the ones you dislike!

I know it sounds like I have directed this personally at Common Tater but that was not the way it was meant to be taken it,s directed at all those who post anti Truro comments

Point been made, I asked the question above and no answer same old story everyone puts their points of veiw across but when asked to be honest and put on their own personal circumstances they fail dismally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't the likes of somersetspur has to answer a case really. Up until very, very recently he has been right behind Truro City. However, it would appear that even he is beginning to wonder.

one has to admit, the present position is not at all very healthy!

Common sense says, if you have the money then pay it, if not then bringing in investors means they are going to want their pound of flesh and what assets do Truro City FC have and that can only be the ground. Now to recover any investment they would need to sell the ground for development. Or am I being cynical.

Titus,

Totally get you there!

Even if he's down to his last £20+ million I'm sure he could sell his house use that money to pay off the HMRC and still find enough to buy another pad somewhere else,if he's got any sense that's what he'll do.

Common Tater hit the nail on the head in his post yesterday at 4.30pm.I can't believe the judge bought Heaney's story either.
