  • Dave Deacon changed the title to Sat 6th April 2024 fixtures
6 hours ago, John Mead said:

Why not? Cheap 90 minutes of entertainment; great value!

Have to agree with John.

I can never understand when there’s no one even just going around with a hat for collection of a few pence to help!

PENZANCE RESERVES 1 ILLOGAN RBL RESERVES 4
A win in this important promotion head-to-head would have enabled Penzance to overtake their visitors by winning games in game. However, the failure to take early chances cost the young Magpies dearly and Illogan are now firm favourites to secure second place behind champions-elect New Inn Titans.
The home side first threatened when Tyler Smith was denied by a good save. Kizzy Snowden then blasted a shot straight at keeper Cameron Smith from point blank range, then Joel Steel glanced a header just wide from a Sam Payne corner. “We had chances early doors to perhaps put the game out of sight but couldn't take them and ultimately this cost us,” rued Magpies joint manager Darren Smith. Matt Roberts ran on to a long through ball to tuck away Illogan’s first clear chance, ten minutes before the break.
When Kai Baxter was adjudged to have tripped Evan Tresidder just after the restart, Ashley Smeeth blasted home a penalty to give Illogan daylight. Set up by Joel Steel, Baxter himself fired over Penzance’s best chance of a response, from a Steel centre. Ewan Trevains was also just off target for the Magpies before the experienced Tom Hogarth made the game safe for the visitors with a speculative shot from wide on the right.
Baxter immediately pulled one back, coming out best in a one-on-one with Smith, but Illogan bagged a fourth just before the final whistle, former Magpie Dominic Batchelor scoring directly from a corner.
“Our overall performance wasn't quite up to scratch and we lacked composure in key moments,” concluded Darren Smith. “I don't think we were out-played despite the scoreline suggesting differently. The lads huffed and puffed but sadly we were below par today and credit goes to Illogan who completed a league double over us. We now have six finals remaining and will have to put this one behind us quickly and move on to our next fixture where myself and Lee Major will be expecting a response from the lads.”

Penzance: Callum Grant, Kai Baxter, Lewis Hitchens (Henry Ramsay 83), Ewan Trevains, Steve Miller, Josh Reeves (Matt Robinson 64), Tyler Smith (Charlie Reynolds 59), Sam Payne (Lewis Hitchens 89), Joel Steel (Fin Sharp 80), Kizzy Snowden, Harvey Richings
Illogan: Cameron Smith, Sam Greenwood, Samuel Lampard, Tom Hogarth, Nathan Callaway, Jon Ayres, Matt Roberts, Dominic Batchelor, Ashley Smeeth, Martyn Jay, Callum Smith. Subs: Evan Tresidder, Tristan Ashley, Josh Taylor, Nick Ward
Referee: Simon Taylor
Attendance: 69

Falmouth United 3 - 5 New Inn Titans FC

With a game one week, and then 2 postponed, New Inn were definitely feeling frustrated, and this afternoons game seen us fixtured against Junior cup Semi finalists Falmouth United down at Penryn College.

Now, with New Inn Taking the first fixture 3-1 at Illogan Park, with Falmouth having loads of chances, to score in the first Fixture, we knew this was going to be a tough game down on the Astro pitch, and the boys weren’t looking forward to it, having picked up a few injuries during the season on awkward pitches.

Irv had the luxury of a pretty big squad, for this game, and everyone was fit.

With an intense warm up, Irv wasn’t happy.

“That warm up was shit boys, get your head in this game today”

Team talk was sharp and straight to the point.

“5 games to go boys, and it’s down to us to make these games count”

Game kicks off, and Titans start strong, getting hold of the ball, and with the midfield 3 of Baber, Nico and Silky Solly playing some lovely interchanging triangles, and playing it out wide to Robert, on the wing. The first chance game within the first 5 mins, a ball out wide left, then found its way across the box to Robert who got contact with the ball, for it to smash back off the post. Close call and unlucky for New Inn.

The pressure intensified and with what can only be the loveliest and sexiest bit of football seen for a long time 3/4 quick passes between the midfield Trio, and then Connor upfront, found White Pogs bursting into the box, to finish off a lovely move and 1-0 New Inn.

This disheartened Falmouth, and you’d of thought that New Inn would of then turned the screw, and they did for a good 15 mins, with Connor bursting through 1:1 a handful of times, only for the keeper to match Beales moves and deny Connor what would of been a 5 minute hat trick!

Then a bit of lack of concentration, allowed Falmouth to break with the ball, and somehow their Veteran striker/manger Mike Rollason evaded 3 tackles and then rounded Penna in goal, to score their first shot at Titans Goal, on the half hour mark!
This caught New Inn Off guard, and frustrated them. And with some more football created another 2/3 chances before the interval but New Inn just couldn’t convert. Solly rolled back the years and even thought he had the pace he had at 17, and nearly burnt the defender off for wonderful solo goal, but it wasn’t to be, so the teams went in at 1-1.

“Right boys, we’ve done everything right there in that first half, just get the ball down more and play those 5 yard passes, and go man for man on their midfield”

Well that was a waste of time, straight from kick off, Fal United midfielder, did a little pivot in the middle of the park, got passed his marker to then slot a lovely ball into the stride of the Falmouth United winger, to then finish past Penna in the Titans goal, 2-1 to the home side and this got their tails up.

A scrappy passage of play for the next 20 mins then lead to a through ball, from United, behind the New Inn Defence, Penna came out in the advancing striker who took it around Penna only to be judged to have been sliced down by Penna forearms. Penalty awarded, penalty converted and New Inn Found themself in a curious position of being behind, 3-1 with 20 to go.

Couple of subs by Irv and Titans heads were definitely down. Then… Falmouth poked the Lions head, something you are advised not to do, and this Lit the fire in the New Inn Players bellies, and Nico Penfold, with a brave challenge in for the ball at the next set piece, beat the keepers fist, and glanced it into the path of Beale who slotted home, 3-2.

15 to go.. Titans had taken away falmouths ability to easily play the ball about and this cause mistakes from Falmouth, to which, Nico Penfolds was brought down in the box, PENALTY

Up step Robert who slotted it passed the diving keeper.
Now whilst Falmouth has been leading a little congregation of youths had taken refuge on some scaffold next to the pitch, the Titans players were bombarded with some chants and ridiculing… but this was wasn’t the case when, Robert was fouled about 25 yards out, up stepped Connor, and rifled a free kick into the bottom corner around the wall, and made the score 4-3 Titans with 7 mins left.

Celebrating Titans players turned to the scaffolding to give some cheers back, to the youths that were giving New Inn Stick, but in the midst of the chaos and the 4th goal for New Inn, they’d made trash and scuppers back to their waiting parents, who were probably waiting at home with a plate or Turkey twizzlers, Chips and beans for their teas.

Titans was looking happy to ride out the game, when some good possession caused another foul close to the box, the resulting set piece, resulted in finding Captain Boz at the back stick, who lifted the ball into the underside of the cross bar and hitting the roof of the net… 5-3, Titans players and management team were going absolutely mental. What a comeback against a decent Falmouth United team. And keeping Titans on track for the League Title.

Well done to New Inn players for the fight and determination to come back, and win. And a thankyou to Falmouth United for a great battle.

MoTM - White Pogs who absolutely fired New Inn Up for the comeback.
