Junior Cup Results 21st October

Probus 4 (Sam Bullen 3, Gaby Camara-Xavier Rojas) Lizard Argyle 0

Attendance 65

The home team started the game missing captain, John Penhaligon (banned after his sending off against Goonhavern 3 weeks ago) and goalkeeper, Sam Jones (recuperating after his hip operation). Thankfully they were able to call on midfielder and ex-Bodmin, Falmouth, StAustell and St Blazey keeper Jason Chapman to fill in between the sticks.
Probus took the lead after 2 minutes when a cross into the box was flicked on by Andy Sheer, and the ball somehow ended up in the net via Sam Bullen. The quick start suggested the potential for more goals in the first half, but despite plenty of possession, it remained 1-0 at halftime, largely due to Lizard defending well and Probus being unable to create any real clear cut chances.

The score remained the same until the 57th minute when Joe Emmett crossed from the left, leaving Sam Bullen unable to miss, tapping home from close range. The same pairing almost created a carbon copy goal 3 minutes later, but this time Sam Bullen’s effort slid wide, on the stretch. Probus made some substitutions and one of them, Adam Bishop, crossed for Sam Bullen to head home. A minute later, Joe Emmett crossed for Gaby Camara-Xavier Rojas, to control and steer the ball into the top corner for his first goal for Probus, much to the delight of the home team. The fourth goal arrived shortly after when Gaby Camara-Xavier Rojas passed to Joe Emmett, whose cross was turned in from close range by Sam Bullen, completing his hat trick and taking him to 20 goals for the season - not a bad return before the end of October! This was a carbon copy of the second goal. The number 11 for Lizard was booked for a late challenge on Adam Bishop, but a couple of minutes later the away team had their best chance, when their number 8 crossed from the left, leaving their number 7 to slice wide on the stretch. This was the closest the visitors came, leaving Jason Chapman, and his highlighter pen yellow kit, as clean at the end as it was at the start.

The game was played in good spirits and Lizard defended well for large parts of the game, without carrying very much attacking threat. Probus benefited from being able to make several changes from the bench, whereas Lizard only had 1 substitute. I thought the ref had a good game (sorry, I don’t know his name). Dropship away for Probus next week, in a big game in division 3 west.

Stithians 2-1 Lanner

Treve Bale 2

Good local derby great battle from both sides. We took the lead when Bale lobbed the keeper after a ball over the top from Jamie Barkle.  Lanner came back into the game and we're unlucky not to score after the ball hit the post. Both teams looking for a goal and Stithians almost had a second when Ryan Kempthorne hit the post from the edge of the box and rebound missed by Tom Roberts.  Lanner almost equalised with a strike from outside the box which Bray saved onto the post. Both teams created half chances but was 1-0 Half time

2nd half

Lanner started the brighter coming out quickly and had a few long throws which were dealt with very well from the Stithians defence making headers and keeper punching clear danger.  We almost nicked a second on the counter but a good save from the Lanner keeper Jose saved with his feet.  Then in the 65th minute a long throw into the box has headed clear on the edge and on the edge of the box was Kyle Hocking for lanner who fired through a crowd of players into the net 1-1.  Both teams looked for a winner creating half chances in the 80th minute James chillman found his was into the box but his strike was blocked by Alec Stephens and had a second bite of cherry but a great challenge from Jack Reeves took it away from him.  Then in the 85th minute a moment a brilliance from Bale 25 Yards out unleashed a strike from the right side which Bent in the top corner screamer 2-1. With five minutes left Lanner tried to push for equaliser but we stood firm for the win

All the best to Lanner pleasure as always good bunch of lads good luck for the season.

Not the best performance from us today but we're in the hat that's the main thing.

It appears the Falmouth Utd 0 v 1 Troon res score is incorrect

Falmouth won 4-2 !

Falmouth United 4 vs. 2 Troons 2nds

First game of the junior cup and missing a number of starters. I really feel we underestimated Troon going into the game. League position means nothing in a cup competition, and Troon really came out swinging. With poor communication at the back with the keeper about to pick up the ball, our CB tapped the ball to him, and he still picked it 🤦🤦 in a freekick inside the box leading to the corner. The resulting corner was sliced into the back of the net from the tightest of angles by Ryan S for an OG.
We struggled to get out of our half for the majority of the first half. With an average age of 18 for my 4 attackers had plenty of energy but missed and experienced head. I made a couple of changes bringing on injured Reece T and myself to bring experience and raise the average age massively 🤣. Reece made a massive impact, forcing a penalty after the cb slide in wildly in the box. Archie B slotted the pen in the bottom corner. Going in a half time 1- 1 was lucky for us as we didn't deserve it.
The second half, after demanding the basics, is actually being applied and maintains the procession of the ball we started brighter. Creating more opportunities. We finally took the lead when a through ball from Man of the match Toby M played Mike R in to put in the bottom corner.
Troon still caused loads of pressure and forced our defence to work hard. We managed another goal against the run of play when young Ethan B ran out from left back after being shouted at by supporter Jack to hit it l, he did from a long way out in to the top bins for a worldie. Leaving his gran in tears with pride. Troon got a second after some more pressure. I was worried for a nervy end but after the keeper came out quick to block Alfie R shot hit fell to 16 year old Charlie I to lob the keeper from range to round of the win.

Not a good performance and I feel the better team lost. They worked hard all game and made us have to work harder. Positive was that we were clinical when it mattered today and starting the game with all my youth lads was a great experience for them.

Best of luck to Troon in the league they were a good bunch and came back for food and drinks at the New Inn.

Will need to up our game in the next round that's for sure. But at least we are in it.

Junior cup 2nd round 🏆
Pendeen Reserves 2-5 St Erme

Match Report

St erme made the long trip down to Pendeen to face the side a league lower than us but we knew it would be a tough encounter seeing their league position.

St Erme started the game with Dan M in goal, Max S and Alan D full backs, Craig S and Dave C centre backs, Cain T, Kyle S and Jared W made up the midfield with Brandon M, Freddie M supporting Thierry M through the middle.
(Subs)- Zack ,Adam ,Alistair ,Jake ,Cam

The game started a bit end to end with the hosts getting a few early chances but it was St Erme who took the lead when the Pendeen Skipper misplaced a pass which landed at the feet of Brandon M when he calmly slotted it away, 1-0 To the saints, Not long after St Erme made it 2-0 When Freddie M played a delightful through ball to Thierry M who buried it past the keeper.

Pendeen then grew back into the game and all their pressure payed off when they won a free kick on the edge off the box which was fired straight down the middle and Dan M was unlucky not to save it making it 2-1 .

St erme then took the game back to Pendeen and not long after conceding made it 3-1 from a corner whipped in from Brandon M for Kyle S to delightfully head home. The game then was end to end until some neat football again from st erme in the middle of the park when Thierry M found Brandon M on the edge of the box for him to Fire low into the bottom left hand corner past the keeper , 4-1 now with St Erme cruising  to victory but shortly before half time Pendeen won a questionable free kick which somehow made it into the back of net after some scruffy play in the box, the St Erme linesman flagged for something but the ref gave the goal and it ended 4-2 at half time.

The second half started at Pendeen were the team obviously trying to get back into the game but the saints defended well for 25-30 mins of the second half. The saints were still looking for the goal that would kill the game off creating numerous of chances and got close when Freddie M played a smart through ball to Thierry M who was unlucky to hit the post but soon after the saints got  the killer 5th goal when Brandon M played a killer through ball For Sub Jake B to run on to and slot it away for his first St Erme goal, St Erme then kept the ball well and saw the game out, it ended 5-2 with St Erme progressing to the 3rd round of the Junior Cup. All the best to Pendeen Rovers AFC for the rest of season

Overall a great performance from everyone involved and will look to maintain these performances when they travel Lizard Argyle in league on Saturday

Todays MOTM was Cam L after he came on after 5 mins for injured Dave C and bullied the Pendeen number 9 and didn’t give him a sniff the whole game.

Gaffer also gave special mentions to Jared And Dan M , Jared who came into the midfield and defended well for the whole 90.
And Dan M pulling off some great saves to keep Pendeen out and earning himself a second half clean sheet.

St Pirans Division 4(WEST)

Frogpool Res 2 Penryn Res 1 (HT 1-1)

A second successive Saturday without a game saw me taking in Frogpool Reserves(again for the second weekend in a row) this time versus Penryn Reserves at the Richard Jorey playing fields.
Arriving just after kickoff because for some reason I had it In my head the fixture was at Kernick Road and having paid £3 to get in and taking a seat in the stand as the players came out I soon realised that unless the Reserves were utilising most of the first team I was at the wrong ground!
The pitch looked in great condition considering the rain leading up to game day.First impressions in this top of the table clash was that both teams were missing between them 42 goals already this season with Kayne Trevaskis and Tom Langford not included for the home team and Liam Dent not available for Penryn in the hunt for a very important 3points that will have a bearing on league positions come the end of the season.
This was the third meeting already this season between the two, with Penryn handing out a 7-0 beating in the home league fixture at the start of the season and the result reversed a couple weeks later Frogpool winning 4-3 again at Penryn in the Percy Stephens Cup.
Early exchanges were controlled by Frogpool who had the better of possession but it was Penryn who had the best chances on the break with the lively Dan Reeves pace causing problems
And it was from the same player who got free on the right and but a low cross in that was put away by Jason Roberts to open the scoring.
Penryn then had an opportunity to go 2-0 up but Reeves blasted over the bar when well placed this was followed shortly after when the dangerous Reeve headed over and I was thinking to myself with Penryn being so dominate would they rue these missed chances later in the game.

39mins and it’s 1-1.A corner to the far post saw Lee Golding powerfully head back across the keeper.
The second half saw Frogpool slowly take control dominating the midfield and chances started to come as Penryn started to tire and although they made several substitutions it failed to stem the tide. With Penryn’s keeper forced in to making three excellent saves in quick succession two with his legs and a diving save to his right.
If a winner was to come it was looking to be from the home side and after hitting the crossbar with a freekick the Penryn keeper was again called in to action but could do nothing this time saving with his legs before substitute Joe Bursey reacted quickest to tuck away the rebound.
2-1 and 3pts puts Frogpool  top of the league their only defeat being that early season loss to Penryn.
The red and blacks dropping to third.
A great advert for Division 4 football with both teams looking capable of holding their own in the league above even with the aforementioned players missing on the day.

M.o.M-Lee Golding(Frogpool).A dominant display protected his two CBs screening well in his defensive midfield role.Done the simple things well and a constant voice for the Frogger’s encouraging his teammates and getting under the skin of the opposing players
