Covid cleared up quickly at Helston then

Thankfully we are able to play tomorrow night, the players that came into contact with the player within our squad have not contracted the virus.  One or two with some symptoms and subsequently, negative tests have been produced so the league are happy for the game to go ahead.

Anyway, thanks for your concern and for Steve Carpenter who was a great help by liaising with our secretary to ensure all the correct protocols have been followed.

Sticker Reserves 4  St Austell Reserves 1

Sticker playing against local rivals  St Austell were put under great pressure for the first twenty minutes as the game was played at a tremendous pace and it was they who opened the scoring with a crisp shot. 0-1. Sticker weathered the storm and equalised shortly after when a good through ball found Hayden Chapman(Son of James Chappers!) to score his first goal for the club. Sticker were now on top and took the lead when a corner was whipped in and found Adam Solomon with a powerful header the ball hit the underside of the crossbar but not over the line and as it came out Ewan Warren-Knight smashed the ball into the net. H/T. 2-1.

The second half commenced and it was a a little cat and mouse with St Austell playing the ball out wide and probing through the middle but Sticker are strong in this area and blocked off any threat and they themselves were a constant threat especially down the left side and it was from another good move that Marco Barresi fired in to make it 3-1.  St Austell came back and tried to open up the Sticker defence but with Andy Avery in goal and Jack Carron  both in dominant form they found it very difficult. Sticker were not finished yet and scored goal no. 4 when Adam Solomon who had another fine game and with dogged determination forced the St Austell defence into a mistake and Solly swept the ball home for a well deserved goal. Sticker saw the rest of the game out and were worthy winners. F/T. 4-1. Martin, Andy and Jack have drilled in some determination into this young team and they are earning the rewards with fine displays and they have now moved up to second in the league. Next game will be visitors Launceston Reserves on this Saturday 18th Sept. 2021 K.O.3.00pm

Helston res 8 - 5 Falmouth Town res

Helston scorers

Fred Williams (4)

Fraser Paterson (3)

Josh Story

What a game for the 40 or so spectators!! End to end football, Helston probably the deserved winners on the night. This game could have finished with any score line to be honest!

Game started a bit cagey but once the first goal went it, it turned into a real entertaining game of football. Helston moving the ball around quickly and looking to play through the lines, Falmouth moving the ball around nicely looking to find their wide players (Liam Chinn on their right with 5 assists…) and get the ball into the box.

Personally, I don’t think either defence could have done much about the attacking football being played by both teams. This was a game of two teams having a proper go at each other, without any real bad tackles (only 2 yellows shown) and some good finishing. Helston created more chances and took them, with Zac Telling in the Falmouth goal making some fine saves (including a penalty) only for the ball to fall to a Helston player to tap it in.

Goal of the game had to Fred Williams taking a cross from Max Everall (who got 3 assists!) on his chest, ball popped up in the air, then firing a volley into the bottom corner.

Just thought I would give a mention Alan Hoon who, as the referee, managed the game very well. Handled the odd flare up and well and allowed both teams to play football

Just to mention that my blog from this game is now online at thecupfootballblogger.wordpress.com I believe this is the link https://thecupfootballblogger.wordpress.com/2021/09/17/compare-and-contrast/ It does quote the Razor61 report quite a lot! It also features some action from the Lincolnshire League clash between Wyberton and Horncastle Town, which I visited while on holiday in that part of the world.
