Duchy League - KO CUP Saturday 28 December 2019

Polperro Reserves 2 - 2 St Newlyn East

Thoroughly entertaining match played in the right spirit and sensibly handled by ref Ian Spurling. Both teams were obviously suffering from a lack of recent games but gave their all and tried to play a good passing game . There was very little between them in the first half, Premier side Saints looked sharper going forward but the Polperro defence held firm and it was goalless at the break. Playing up the slope in the second half Polperro took the lead after 20 minutes but a sound penalty and a wickedly sliced og within minutes saw them behind.

The visitors appeared to sit back a bit to hold on to the advantage but Polperro were eventually rewarded for a string of good attacks with an equaliser and pressed hard for a winner in the closing stages.

Fair result over the 90 minutes, Saints progress to the knock out stage and Polperro put themselves in a good position to progress with them.

Agree with you Paul that a draw was probably a fair result over 90 mins although Polperro prob had the clearer cut opportunities late in the 2nd half. Great side at Polperro who have pushed us close in both cup games and who try to play football the right way and am sure will be in the Duchy Prem sooner rather than later.

It’s always great to see Duchy Committee members out watching games and supporting the league and it’s clubs. Hope to see you or the legend that is Colin Burrell at Cargoll Road soon.

Happy New Year

Jiggy, St Newlyn East AFC
