Blues Chairman Posted Thursday at 10:29 Report Share Posted Thursday at 10:29 Following 64 years in the making, last night saw the dissolving of this historic league to make way for a forthcoming merger of three leagues. The league has brought much football enjoyment and memories to many over the years. Helston Athletic Football Club would like to record it thanks and gratitude to all former and retiring officers / committee members of the league for their commitment over the years. A special mention for LWC Drinks, formerly Jolly’s Drinks, for their long term sponsorship. Please lets not forget the hard work that has been put into a foundation for change. Postman Pat Posted Thursday at 14:44 Report Share Posted Thursday at 14:44 Will second Blues chairman's remarks have had many years of enjoyment from the Combination league. Although it is a shame to see it go I do believe it has run its course and we can now move onto the new structure. Thanks also to CTB for all your work with this league Way Of The Park, Keith B, MattP and 2 others

Way Of The Park Posted Friday at 09:05 Report Share Posted Friday at 09:05 Quite a sad moment for me, a league that has had many great clubs and produced some superb players. Back in the 70's and 80's, Western League clubs certainly did not relish trips to Combo clubs in the Senior Cup. Along with the equivalent East Cornwall League, it was a very strong second tier of football in the county. Understand completely why it has gone, but something has definitely been lost. Also, just looked at the first league table from the 1960-61 season and compared it to the final 2022/23 table. Just 4 clubs appear in both the first and last versions; Porthleven St Just RNAS Culdrose Helston Thecupfootballblogger and MattP
