Probus 5 Lamerton 2 – Duchy League Knockout Cup

Lamerton were down to 10 men after 5 minutes after an altercation. They then took the ead after 20 minutes with a good finish and should have scored a few more before half-time, but they wasted several good chances. Probus didn't really make the keeper work despite their possession. They then scored 2 goals in 2 minutes right before half-time – they equalised when James Noble's corner was headed home by Sam Bullen and then almost immediately took the lead when Alex Hayhoe and Ross Vicary combined for Hayhoe to score with a good shot from 20 yards.

Probus increased their lead in the second-half through a good finish from John Ridd and a tap-in from Alex Hayhoe. Lamerton then replied with a good finish to make it 4-2. Sam Bullen converted a cross to make it 5-2 and they had a chance to increase their lead when the referee gave a penalty for a foul, but the keeper made a good save from Ross Vicary's shot.

Both keepers made some good saves in difficult conditions. Overall Lamerton should have gone into half-time at least 2 or 3 goals in front, but they didn't take their chances and they were made to pay by a Probus team who experienced their first win for several months.

St Minver 1 LC Phoenix 1

This was always going to be an intriguing affair when you consider the form of both sides. Phoenix edged the first half with a delicious free-kick curled in by Jon Bye from 20 yards. Minver, initially at least, struggled with Phoenix's work rate and movement, but played themselves back into the game in the second half when Minver pressure earned them a deserved goal.

Both sides asked questions of each other right until the final minute, but this was a game where quality defending was on show throughout.

Thanks to St Minver for their warm welcome, they're clearly a club that cares about grass roots football.

The White Hart Hotel Man of the Match Award: Bradley Stokes- a phenomenal display against one of the most profilic strikers in the Duchy league.

Duchy 1

Grampound 0-1 Polperro (Wilson)

Thanks for all the hard work the Grampound guys put in to get the game on, recent cancellations have made it hard to remember what a football looks like! Also thanks for the help they gave us due to us only having the bare 11 and not even our manager, which meant they supplied us with a lino, team sheet and ball to warm up with!!!

As ever it was a hard fought game against a hard working Grampound, and only another goal from Colin Wilson from the most impossible of angles gave us the 3 points.

After beginning the day looking at an uphill struggle, today's win coupled with other results have made it a good day for us.

Good luck to Grampound for the rest of the season.

credit is very rarely given to some teams , but today I was at Maker and Rame v Looe Town , and I must say well done to both sides . I arrived for the game at about 1.30 and most of the home team were working hard on the pitch . both teams played the game on what could only be discrbed as a paddy field in a rain strom , There was not one bad challenge in the game and what could of been a very dangerous situation was a total pleasure to officiate with both sides trying to play football , Thank you to both sides and to the Gentlemen from looe for the cup of tea at half time . :drink::drink::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Hard to believe that Grampound lost 0-1 to Polperro today. Grampound dominated possession and created enough chances to win a couple of games but fair play to Polperro - they may have been just about the most disorganised team to visit us in recent seasons but they defended well after being under pressure for most of the game and sneaked a goal with a neat finish and should have scored another soon after. Polperro went down to 10 men with a few minutes remaining when a player was dismissed for an awful off the ball incident after a couple of previous warnings and a Grampound player escaped a red card when he behaved similarly but had not been warned earlier.

It looks like Polperro and Biscovey could now finish in the promotion places but there are still lots of games to still be played.

Apart from the bloke who got sent off (a definite red if ever there was one after a couple of previous wild challenges), Polperro were a good bunch and I wish them luck for the rest of the season.

IS AJW for real? Every time Grampound loses he has a dig at the other team and wonders how grampound have not won!! Newsflash AJW Grampound are just not a very good team no matter how many made up match reports you put on this forum!!

Oh I would give him some slack - there's been far more bias reports than the one above I've just read! :)

As Grampounds Manager I would like to say I wasn't there today but I here from at least 3 players we were all over Polperro today and couldn't find the breakthrough (to our detriment).

We are missing a little bit guile in the final third that would make us serious title contenders.

Something there manager offered pre career ending injury. ;)

As Polperro's Manager, I was also missing today due to taking a holiday in the football season (where's the commitment I hear you say!!). Even though I called and text all the players whilst away I could only muster the bare 11, and therefore can only apologise for the lack of organisation. I accept full responsibility.

I have also spoke to my players this evening, and the feedback I received was that Grampound had the majority of possession without really threatening the Polperro goal. At other end Polperro created the more clear cut opportunities when going forward, with the goal and two cleared off the line.

Either way, 3 points is 3 points. Even though we're in March there's a still a long way to go, with a lot of tough teams to play. I'd like to think we'll be there at the end but we'll have to play a lot better than we have in recent weeks.

Thanks again to Grampound for your hospitality.

Can not say much more, you have said it all. These two sides are a credit to Duchy Football. Phoenix were a great bunch of lads. Division 3 is set to go to the wire and both teams need to be aware that there are a few more team in the Division looking for promotion so a way to go yet. Looking foreward to the return.

JJ Jones Duchy Football League from Michael Newcombe

Probus put some recent woeful league form behind them to reach the quarter-finals of the KMD Developments Knock Out cup with a 5-2 defeat of Lamerton. The visitors didn’t help themselves as they were reduced to ten men after just five minutes. Incredibly they took the lead after twenty minutes with a good finish and could have scored more, but wasted several good chances. Lamerton were punished when they conceded two goals in two minutes before half time. Sam Bullen headed James Noble’s corner home for the equaliser and then they took the lead when Alex Hayhoe and Ross Vicary combined for Hayhoe to score with a good shot from twenty yards. Probus increased their lead in the second-half through a good finish from John Rid and a tap-in from Alex Hayhoe. Lamerton replied with to make it 4-2, but Sam Bullen put the tie out of reach when he converted a cross to make it 5-2. Probus were denied another when the referee gave a penalty for a foul, but the keeper made a good save from Ross Vicary's spot kick.

The holders Pelynt are out a losing 3-1 at Premier side St.Newlyn East in the quarter-finals ending a terrific series of wins over higher ranked rivals in the last two seasons. Liam Dent scored a brace for Newlyn with Ryan Polmounter claiming their other goal. Liam Jones replied for Pelynt.

There was no doubting the tie of the day where AFC St.Austell kept their treble ambitions alive with a stunning 4-1 win at Fowey United. Phil Hutchings and Ben Douglas scored a brace apiece with Josh Frampton getting the home consolation. St.Austell now play St.Newlyn East in the semi-final.

There was plenty of enthusiasm, but little quality football as St.Merryn caused a minor upset to reach the semi-finals of the Bodmin Sports Trophies League Cup following a 3-1 victory over Gorran. Richard Hughes, Josh Dark and Kevin Allen scored the home goals and despite being reduced to ten men late on they restricted the visitors to a lone Mike Brennan goal. St.Merryn now have a two legged semi-final against Gerrans & St.Mawes United.

Just one Premier Division game survived the deluge with St.Mawgan earning a fine point in their battle against relegation holding Mevagissey to a three all draw. Kieran Taplin and a Chris Leach brace for St.Mawgan with Scott Mills, Glyn James and Richard James replying for Mevagissey.

Pensilva lost their unbeaten record and lost at home for the first time in eighteen months to Division One leaders Biscovey. In a state of the déjà vu the score line of 0-3 was exactly the same against the same opponents and with the same referee at the time of the last defeat. Dale Isbell gave Biscovey a fifth minute lead with a neat lob over the keeper. The rest of the first half was all Pensilva, but they were denied by a superb goalkeeping performance. Pensilva brought on Luke Cloke as substitute after the break, but his major impact on the game was to put through his own net and then Martyn Jones came off the bench to score with a nice header.

Polperro with a bare eleven reinforced their title credentials with a one nil win at Grampound. The hosts had a far greater share of the play, but struggled to create chances against a Polperro side that battled hard and defended with quality. The only goal came fifteen minutes from time from a breakaway when Colin Wilson got on the end to score from a narrow angle. Polperro had another couple of chances after this, but held on even after seeing a player sent off.

The Gunnislake and Godolphin Atlantic players did a bit of quick thinking after the pitch was washed out by a late hail storm. A phone call to Tavistock and the willingness of both sets of players to get the game played saw a journey to the all weather pitch. The hosts became the big winners as they ran out surprise 6-3 winners to revive hopes of escaping relegation.

Maker with Rame beat Looe Town 5-3. The home scorer’s were Zak Rosen (2), Luke Jones, Neil Williams and Mark Mirfin-Strike.

Padstow United’s charge to the Division Two title suffered a setback with a 1-0 defeat at Lostwithiel. The home side deserved their win defending comfortably and having the quality to bounce back after putting in such a poor performance seven days ago. The first half was goalless, but the crucial winner came after the interval when Ashley Phillips scored the games only goal.

Premier Sixes endured loads of dropouts prior to their game at St Breward. They scraped 11 thanks to goalkeeper Nathan Prentice stepping in to play centre back and Christian Minsansa coming straight from the beach and turning up at St Breward in a wetsuit. St.Breward were 3-1 up at half time and playing some of their best of the season. A couple of tactical changes saw Premier Sixes hit back in the second half to claim a three all draw with only a couple of top drawer saves preventing them from winning it at the death. St.Breward’s scorer’s were Matt Couch, Luke Richards and Wayne Davey with a towering header with Martyn Probert and Dan Parsonage with a brace replying for Sixes. Premier Sixes incredible scoring run now stretches the last 54 competitive games on the bounce.

Gerrans & St.Mawes United took a giant stride towards safety and left Lanreath pinned to the bottom after a 3-1 win. Glyn Hitchings, Andy Ayre and Andy Harris scored for Gerrans with Matt Julian replying.

The crunch match at the top of Division Three ended with honours even as St.Minver and LC Phoenix fought out a one all draw. This was a good game of football that flowed from end-to-end. John Bye gave Phoenix a first half lead, but back came St.Minver after the break with Paul Dingle firing the equaliser that preserves their unbeaten record.

St.Stephen consolidated fourth place with a 2-1 defeat of Stoke Climsland. Rodney Rickard gave the hosts a twenty-seventh minute lead only for the visitors to equalise seven minutes later. James Allen’s twenty-yard strike into the top corner after thirty-eight minutes proved to be the winner. St.Stephen created other chances later, but were unable to increase their advantage.

The League’s leading scorer Simon Holmes bagged a hat trick to help Holywell/Cubert Athletic beat bottom side Roche 7-1. Lee Copp and Josh Busby added a goal apiece and the visitor’s woes were completed with two own goals being scored. Craig Tamblyn scored the Roche consolation.

Callington picked up another win beating Delabole 5-4 away from home. Will Smith and Jordan Swinney scored a brace apiece with Kieran Prescott completing the visitor’s tally. Delabole hit back with strikes from Sam Eaves, Aaron Arnold, Steve Terry and a debut goal from sixteen-year-old Kieran Barrett.

Only one game survived in Division Four where St.Cleer reserves and Tintagel shared six goals. Andy Thomas, Andy Cobb and Connor Stone scored for St.Cleer with Shaun Keeble, Adam Wright and Martyn Cockcroft replying.

Veryan as expected increased their lead at the top of Division Five with Justin Trebilcock scoring four times n an 8-1 defeat of Duke of Cornwall. Craig Phillips scored a brace on his debut with Martin Bishop and an own goal completing their tally.

St.Mawgan reserves had a fine 2-0 win at Tregrehan Mills where Luke Haynes and Ben Southgate hit the target.

Kelvin Hayes scored a brace to help St.Minver reserves to a 3-1 win at Pelynt reserves. Ryan Butler completed the visitor’s scoring with Andy Pollard hitting a penalty for the home consolation.
