Dave Deacon
Based primarily on North Devon clubs, as far as I can see the Kingsley League has been going for some time, since 1926. Cornish clubs have and are still competing in the league - Kilkhampton is a current one, while Morwenstow are a former one : "Morwenstow's first taste of success was as early as the 1947-48 season when they won the Kingsley League Southern Section, amassing 33 points out of a possible 40. They then met Appledore who had been the Northern Section Winners but lost the final by the odd goal in 3." Currently sponsored, it's known as the Hodgson Insurance Kingsley League and the current table for this season is something like this:- Pos P W D L GF GA GD PTS 1 Black Torrington 8 8 0 0 48 8 40 24 2 Woolsery 9 7 0 2 37 20 17 21 3 Kilkhampton 7 4 0 3 18 20 -2 12 4 Week St Mary 8 2 1 5 22 31 -9 7 5 Merton 8 2 1 5 18 29 -11 7 6 SouthPetherwin 4 2 0 2 10 9 1 6 7 Holsworthy 5 2 0 3 11 11 0 6 8 Bridgerule 5 2 0 3 6 15 -9 6 9 Hartland 7 0 2 5 8 30 -22 2 Last season's Kingsley League Table (2007/2008) Pos P W D L PTS 1 Bideford 22 19 0 3 57 2 North Petherwin 22 18 3 1 57 3 South Petherwin 22 15 3 4 48 4 Bridgerule 22 11 5 8 38 5 Week St Mary 22 10 3 9 33 6 Merton 22 10 1 11 31 7 Bridge Inn 22 8 3 11 27 8 Holsworthy 22 7 5 10 26 9 Black Torrington 22 5 5 12 19 10 Lifton 22 4 3 15 17 11 Kilkhampton 22 3 6 13 15 12 Hartland 22 2 3 17 9 As a contact or someone who would know who to contact try : Secretary, certainly as at 2007/08 : Mr K Turner, Troswell, North Petherwin, LAUNCESTON, Cornwall, PL15 8NA, 01566 785268 (h), Fax no: 01566 785268
Adlestrop
Dave, would I be correct in thinking that Kilkhampton are the ONLY Cornish club playing out of the County ?
Soccer Follower
Week St.Mary and South Petherwin are both in Cornwall,Adlestrop. Don't know Merton and Bridgerule,i think,is just across the border.
Dave Deacon
I'm assuming you mean a Cornish club that don't feature a team anywhere at all in a league inside the Duchy? South Petherwin look a candidate, whereas Week St Mary are in the Duchy League, Division Two. Can't see South Petherwin have, and they did play in this season's Cornwall Junior Cup, losing 9-3 to Stoke Climsland in the First Round. Presumably Bridgerule, despite playing in the Duchy League (Division Five), must be just over the border, although the Club's secretary and chairman are based in Bude, can't see they played in the Junior Cup! Soccer Follower
I assumed that he/she meant that Kilkhampton had to play all their fixtures against teams from Devon. Kilk also used to play in the North Devon League and enter the Cornwall Senior Cup.
Mike Odgers
Bridgerule is in Devon although the River Tamar runs through the village. On a trip to Holsworthy a few years back I called in the local Pub and above the door I am sure it said the only Public House in Devon -west of the Tamar The River Tamar regarded as the border between Devon and Cornwall. Soccer Follower
Yeah,Mike, the County border does meander around a bit in that area.
Dave Deacon
Still do have a team in the North Devon League - in the Senior Division (which presumably is their "second division"). I think they were relegated from the Premier Division last season! Guest info@hartlandfootballclub
The best place to get info on the Kingsly League is from the following 3 places. 1) http://www.thisisnorthdevon.co.uk/. Here you will find results and next weeks games. you can also get this from the north devon journal (sometimes have a small piece on a game). 2) http://www.holsworthyafc.co.uk/index.html. Holsworthy's 3rd team play in this league and they put up who they have played, their fixture list, weekend games and table. 3) http://www.hartlandfootballclub.co.uk/. Hartland's 3rd team also plays in this league. Here you can find Hartlands fixture list, kingsly league table and fixture table with results. Note: the Kingsly League are not hot on providing info. Hope this helps.
