Bodmin lose the right to defend trophy!

Recommended Posts

The CCFA recently received correspondence from the South West Peninsula League concerning the 'Durning Lawrence Charity Cup Competition. With the Premier Division of the League being increased to 20 teams from next season it was suggested that invitations to take part in the Charity Cup should be restricted to Cornish Clubs in Division One [West] of the league structure..And from the two other Cornish Senior Leagues if necessary.

With some clubs at this level not having floodlights the Peninsula League would be prepared to allocate a Saturday in their fixture programme for the first round matches at least. After much thought and discussion the CCFA 'Rules Revision and League Sanction Committee' agreed to invite the 16 Cornish Clubs operating in the Peninsula League [West] on a trial basis for 2008/09. Ties in the Charity Cup do not take precedence over Peninsula League fixtures.

So there you have it, the Peninsula League requested a change in format of the Competition, and on a one year trail basis the CCFA agreed to it.

Why hasn't the CCFA announced this, so the Cornish football community can be informed properly?

Surely we're not going back to the Secret Society days of the CCFA under that great communicator that was John Ryder.

We shouldn't have to read these things second hand from something Dave Deacon has probably been told over his free dinner.

I would be interested in your thoughts, Mr Bray, as you are a modern, pro-active CCFA officer who regularly informs the media of initiatives and news.

The matter was only ratified on Thursday evening at a meeting of the CCFA Full Council.

Clubs are in the process of being informed by letter. Obviously it has told to Dave Deacon by someone , so i have just clarified the matter. Can't really say anyone.

That should be ' can't say anymore'. pressed the wrong keys !!

Thanks for the replies, Dave and David.

But hasn't the CCFA heard of e-mails yet? Do things still have to be sent through the post before anything can be announced?? It's so old-fashioned it's making the CCFA a laughing stock.

If club secretaries don't have e-mail addresses, they should get them. This is 2008, and people expect news now, not after everybody's received and opened their post.

I have just spoken to a mate of mine who is involved in one of the local papers and he says he has seen nothing from the CCFA about this.

Perhaps his letter is in the post . . .

One for David Bray here : very conveniently there are 16 Cornish teams available from the Division One West :

Callington

Camelford

Dobwalls

Foxhole

Godolphin

Goonhavern

Hayle

Millbrook

Mousehole

Newquay

Penryn Ath

Penzance

Porthleven

St Austell

Truro City

Wendron

However, what's the situation with the Truro City invite, in as much as obviously it will be their Reserve side?

This is an excellent initiative. Peninsula premier clubs such as Bodmin, Saltash and the like have a good chance of making either the Cornwall Senior Cup or Throgmorton Cup final (or two finals), and are eligible for both the FA Vase & FA Cup. Peninsula Div 1 clubs on the other hand are excluded from the FA Cup, and are unlikely to win any knockout competition - until now. I'm sure the likes of Newquay, Penzance, etc will appreciate the opportunity of winning some silverware next season. Lets give credit where it's due - well done CCFA. :D

What rubbish!! Why make a competition open to lower league clubs as a trial? What is that going to prove? Nothing!! at the end of the day, the standard of clubs in the top division and east and west arnt that much different. Just dont see the point of it.
