St Day 4 -0 Mullion

Aside of a couple of heavy showers this one was cold but pleasant in the limited sunshine.

St Day predominantly controlled the match for 90 mins but Mullion had plenty of fighting spirit throughout the team & of course the ever youthful Paul Williams in goal who for some reason kept asking me how long was left not due to the constant bombardment of his goal , I think he was just cold it happens at pensioner age 🤣the first time was after 4 mins 🤣🤣( me exaggerating never )

Onto the game & as I said Mullion battled very well small parts of a passing game from them at times looked good , big centre half controlled for the best parts of his back line , at half time though a 1-0 score line for the Saints a Dan Richards goal was all that separated the two teams .

Second half brought more from St Day & they were putting Mullion back  under pressure time & time again with some good saves from Willo .

Corner after corner was putting pressure on Mullion however it was a keepers kick out from Steve PB that the big centre half should of kicked through but completely missed , which left Dan Richards through on goal & he hit a lovely strike for 2-0 .

The corners continued to arrive in the box & Kyle Marks  got a goal mouth scramble goal for 3-0 deserved after another decent display from him all game  ( I’m not biased 😳)

Subs galore for St Day brought another goal for 4-0 & to be fair Saints thoroughly deserved their win but I heard the Mullion manager at the final whistle say “ i take that “ & he was  pretty happy with his guys who worked really hard for him throughout .

On to Tuesday night at Penryn let’s hope the Saints can play for 90 mins down there after the last game.

Pitch at Vogue looking exceptionally good again & the reserves played alongside the 1st team apologies for not knowing the score but Culdrose were celebrating a couple of times .

St Columb 1 St Minver 7

St Columb started really well and scored a early goal when Scott Taylor slammed home a rebound from a corner. St Minver pulled 1 back before half time, and both sides headed into half time with the score at 1-1. In the 2nd half St Minver took control but it did take them a while to take the lead, but once they got it, they didn't look back and took total control and blown major away in the end. St Columb must keep fighting and keep going, they still got some good players to pick up results in this league.

Torpoint Athletic 1 - 3 St Mawgan

Torpoint goal scorer: Manuel J

Beyond disappointing to come away with nothing on Saturday and has done our league position no favours whatsoever with St Mawgan and Saltash both closing the gap on us with games in hand. Both times we've played St Mawgan this season we've had the lions share and should have 6 points if it wasn't for poor finishing in both games, but alas we only have 1 point to show for it.

St Mawgan flew out of the blocks on Saturday to be fair to them and raced into a 2 goal lead inside 10mins. The first was an effort from 20yards which really moved in the wind leaving WestallM a little rooted. Nothing he could've done about that in the elements. The 2nd an even better strike where the attacker skipped inside the tackle and let fly a rocket past the keeper again with no chance, but for different reason. Fortunately we reacted quickly and James Manuel pulled one back following a set piece wide on the right. The rest of the half was of few guilt edge chances, though WestallC went close on two occasions, one a fierce effort from 20yds just off target, and another when on the stretch putting a volley over at the back stick. 1-2 HT.

One change at half time and nothing to really criticise. We had far more of the possession, though this was in fact deliberate from St Mawgan's part who were well drilled allowing our centre halves to have the ball, only to react when it was passed into midfield. This was to set up traps and win it back so it wasn't exactly meaningful possession. Due to this and against the wind in this half the more direct approach was in our favour and it should have paid off dividends on multiple occasions. Cam Ross found himself through on goal twice using his pace to get in behind, the first one a superb recovery tackle came in before the trigger was pulled and the second Cam hit an air shot, assumedly from a bobble. The introduced Small's most pivotal contribution was a great ball into the run of Westall one on one with grass ahead of him, the keeper was high but back peddled quickly and again a defensive recovery had the speed to interrupt the thought process. It wasn't all one way traffic when a St Mawgan counter should've sealed it with a low ball in from the left to the 6yd box being side footed home but a huge leap from WestallM kept it out. The next chance our way was another ball in behind with Payn/WestallC taking possession of the ball and the former rounding the keeper to charge to an empty goal barr one defender on the line but Payny's left foot is a waste of his human anatomy and he hit it straight at the man in blue, only for the rebound to fall to Easterbrook 3yds out who put his rushed effort wide of the gaping posts. Unbelievable. Payny had scored a carbon copy in last season's final vs Foxhole and Easterbrook you'd put more on a bet slip than he does most Saturdays. Late in the game the returning from injury Bouch found himself in unknown territory high on the right wing, somehow bamboozled the left back to drive inside the box to get brought down, penalty! Huge cheers with only seconds remaining. It took an age to take it with St Mawgan's experienced gamesmanship slowing down affairs, and Westall's second guessed penalty was well saved by the visiting keeper. The resultant corner had everyone in the box with the ball falling to goalkeeper WestallM who volleyed towards goal which was blocked and cleared to Bicknell who 60+yds from goal aimed the ball at our net but Lucas Preston was on his bike to roll into an empty net to seal it and then his marching orders for taking his top off and a 2nd yellow card.

Worthy second half for any neutral at the game but one I definitely feel is the lowest I've felt this season. Did everything but score enough to win it. Cruel sport.

Gunnislake 1 - 4 North Petherwin

Petherwin Goal Scorers: Sanders 2, Sharpe & Digby

Great bounce back after lasts weeks display and we fully deserved the 3 points.  We started brightly and soon went 1-0 up with a great team goal which ended with Smith sliding the ball through the Guni defence for Sharpe to run onto and calmly slot past the on rushing keeper.  From here we had several more chances, with Pennington using the wind to nearly catch the home keeper out but found his attempt going just over and Sanders had a 1:1 he hit straight at the keeper. Soon after Guni came into the game and got in a few times but was denied on both occasions by Pennington who had an excellent game at left back. Around the 25th minute Guni equalized when everyone stopped for a throw in the home lino didn't give and the home forward was put through to score. Very pleasingly we reacted straight away and scored 5 mins later when skipper Reeve surged forward and nicely squared to Sanders to fire in from 12 yards. From here we took control until half time and i felt we should have had a penalty when Digby on the half turn tapped it past the keeper but was body checked, ref deemed Digby moved into the keeper. ht 1-2

Second half against the wind it took us a little while to settle and Guni for the first 10mins looked to be getting back into the game. Digby then had two quick chances, with the home keeper making a fine save for the first as he went through 1:1. His second he took as he drifted across the box from the left to beat the keeper to his right. Guni kept knocking but i felt we were in control although around the 70/75th minute they were awarded a penalty when Nalbantov playing his second game in goal for us with Coles out suspended, was ruled to have made a dangerous tackle despite getting the ball and contact coming from the striker. You see those tackles many times outfield. Thankfully for us Hobson hit the post with his well struck penalty. We secured all 3 points in the 80th min when Sharpe from the right and down the slope crossed to the back post and Sanders headed in to the top left corner from 6 yards to get his 10th of the season.

Good 3 points against an improved Guni team.

Would also like to say a huge thank you for all the work Guni did to get the game on in reducing the size of the pitch to avoid the unplayable corner with Andy Brown keeping us well updated in the days leading to the game. Top effort.
