Thecupfootballblogger
Just back from watching my hometown side, Penryn, host St Just, in the Premier West. The visitors deservedly won 5-3, a victory that looked inevitable after they took a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes. However, the hosts showed great spirit and pulled level early in the second half. At that stage, it was anyone's game, but St Just stepped up again to take control, retaking the lead and then extending it to 5-2 before the hosts pulled a final goal back with a rebound from a late, late penalty. A two-goal deficit was probably a fairer reflection of how the game had gone. St Just were the stronger team but, despite their defeat, Penryn played some good football and there is definite hope for the future at Kernick. So eight goals, including two penalties, one goal direct from a corner, a couple of goalkeeping howlers and lots of proper tackling (and the occasional improper one). This was a properly contested and well-reffed game of football and a good advert for the St Piran's League. countyman
St Newlyn East 4-4 Wadebridge Great game of football and a cracking advert for 2 grassroots clubs .. well reffed by Alan Smith, both sets of supporters were treated to an end to end display by both sides… credit to the Young Ultras of Newlyn that never let up their support… 0-1, 0-2, 0-3 after 30 minutes…. 1-3 HT, 2-3, 2-4 a minute later…. 3-4, then 4-4 with both sides stretching for the final winner.. good travelling support and credit to the Bridgers for after the game too at the Pheasant… a good day for local football👍 Railwayman in Exile
Byron10
St. Columb Major 1 Torpoint Athletic 4 Good result for us against a rugged st columb major. Played the pitch well and looked very tidy in spells across the 90 mins. Great freekick from the hosts around 70 mins made the game interesting at 1-2 but that was soon squashed with 2 quick fire goals from Zak and Tyler copp. Only negative of the day was the really poor post match food, doesn’t matter who you play you should feed your guests properly. SNE next up at the mill the following Saturday.

Foul Throw 3
Torpoint Athletic 5 - 1 Altarnun Torpoint goal scorers: Westall x2, Easterbrook, Payn, Monaghan. First game of the calendar year at home against bottom of the league Altarnun, who were arriving on their first win of the season the previous weekend. But it wasn't to be the same result for our visitors as we showed our intent in the first 100 seconds. A great team move got us down the left hand side and a good cross in from Easterbrook was finished at the back post by Ross, only to be chalked out by the lino. Looked dubious but if it was offside then there was little excuse. But our threat down the left hand side was to continue throughout. We weren't to break the deadlock until after 20mins though, with a first goal for the club for Callum Monaghan, whose shot from the edge of the box wasn't held by the away keeper and into the net. The first of three goals in a ruthless 5 minute spell. 3 mins later Easterbrook received the ball inside the Altarnun half and released Westall whose pitching wedge lobbed the keeper. Easterbrook then got another assist teeing up Payn on his first start in almost 4months after a lengthy lay off. By 40mins it was 4-0 as Easterbrook himself got on the score sheet. Aidy Bark drove through the middle of the pitch and passed wide to Easterbrook who cut inside the shattered right back and his low drive wasn't stopped. 4-0 HT. Easiest team talk in the world in principle and I should've used the break to pop down the bookies. We were either going to continue the way we played and it would've been a cricket score or we'd become complacent, ease off the gas and draw the 2nd half 1-1. I've been here before. 2mins on the clock and Altarnun pull one back from our own doing. A poor pass from the back wasn't protected in the midfield and the Altarnun attacker was in on goal to tuck under Browner. Class! From then on naturally Altarnun were a bit lifted, though didn't create much going forward. But it did give them more fight. We did continue to create though particularly down the wings, and good balls in from Manuel, Bark, Easterbrook, Ross and Power all went by without punishment. Both Manuels should've had a goal each as both headed whiskers wide of each post from good set pieces and Easterbrook was playing with a smile on his face at his own lack of fortune in front of goal. It wasn't until late on we got the 2nd half equaliser I predicted with Westall receiving a square ball from the right and sold the defender into believing he had a left foot, very foolish and untrue, to be brought down for a penalty. Westall himself took it and another was fooled diving the wrong way for 5-1. Though the 2nd half wasn't as comfortable in adding to the score board I am pleased we continued to create and it could have been more. A positive from recent weeks that we look more threatening than we had done previously. Our 2nd 5-1 victory over Altarnun this season. All the best to them for the rest of their season. Onto next week where I hope this wet weather passes as we hope to visit Callington. Dwyane Pipe and The Badger 1

The Badger
Launceston 1 - 3 North Petherwin. Not had to write a quick report recently as we have played Cals Torpoint in our only games of 2024 😃 Local derby in front of a good crowd at Pennygilliam as we were hosted by Kev 'Meatball' Hatchs Launceston 2s, extra spice with Kev playing for us last season in the East Cornwall League. Conditions were not great with the wind and a very soft pitch but def playable. We started brightly and Sharpe soon got in behind but unfortunately shot to early and blazed over from about 20 yards. Around the 20th Minute we took a deserved lead when the impressive Ellacott turned in from the right to feed stand in skipper Sanders who with back to goal and defender excellently dinked it around the cb for Sharpe just inside the 18 yard box who took one touch and slotted it through the CBs legs and into the left corner. Soon after we made it two. A long throw from Stainer down the right, was headed backwards by the home sides lb and fell to Ellacott who delightfully flicked the ball inside to Sanders again who took it in his stride and drove a half volley into the bottom righthand corner. Great finish but a pathetic attempt at a knee slide celebration. Launceston pulled one back from a corner around 35th minute and tbf they looked dangerous throughout from set pieces with Crabb winning most things in the air. On this occasion we were slow to react to the second ball in the box and young and impressive Ben Harrison was on hand to punish us and he tucked home the loose ball. A goal the hosts deserved in my opinion and they finishes the stronger of the sides. Second half and Launceston were down to 10 early on as Camelfords forward Shae Cardiff was sin binned and we made it 3-1 in that period. Launceston switched off from the corner which allowed Smith & Pennington to take a short one in which Pennington. drove into the box and his shot/cross was cleared but only as far as young Sonny Smith who then curled in a deep cross to the back post which nestled into the top right corner. Important goal so soon after half time. From here as the game got open with Launceston opening up we got in several times but failed to make it count with Sharpe looking dangerous on the counter. Launceston hit the cross bar as Crabb anticipating a tackle 40 yards smashed the ball goal bounds catching everyone including keeper Coles out but thankfully bounced back into Coles arms. As Launceston continued to dial up the pressure, a nice ball down the right from Elvidge found Cardiff but unfortunately for him and us Coles came rushing out and upended him giving referee Holden no choice but to send him off. Frustrating for me, as last 10mins being 3-1 up and Cardiff wasn't going to score from there. With no other keeper in the squad we turned to Mike Sampson but thankfully he had nothing to do as the boys defended well and got the result over the line. Good win against an improved Launceston side with the likes of Harrison, Elvidge & Crabb back in the 2s. Hopefully no injury to Shae from that tackle! Special mention to Richie Gyamfi and his partner who couldn't make the game as they welcomed baby Charis to the world. Luke Gibbons

You could've put your 2 pence in Nick you usually do! 🤣 Coles needs to work on his decision making rushing out from goal no? That's the 3rd instance in 3 games Gaffer! Congrats to Richie top player!
