Liskeard res 2 torpoint thirds 2

another absolutely dreadful performance from us where we’ve shown that without the added quality we struggle badly. Not the best game from either side to be fair. Pitch was very very soft, think more people slipped over than passes completed. Went behind twice (one worldie strike from the liskeard left back) came back twice the second from us being in the last few mins from our best performer and skipper Mike heron. Liskeard definitely edged it IMO. Honourable mention to their young skipper who is one of the best CB’s I’ve seen this season.

next up st col major away next weekend.

PERRANWELL 0-1 MULLION

ATT  35

MOM)  Paul Williams (Mullion)

Scrappy 1st half, lots of misplaced passes from both teams, not too much goalmouth action apart from Perranwell scoring after 14 minutes,  nice clipped cross from the right by Adam Selley headed home off the underside of the bar by Steve Maycock only to be chalked off with an offside flag.

2nd half a lot better action wise, great cross by Callum Edgcumbe on the hour saw Selley have his shot well blocked by Mullion player manager for the day Paul Williams racing off his line like a leopard, before a thunderous 25 yard strike by Mullions midfielder Jack Rutterford in the 75th minute ended up in the bottom corner despite Well keeper Phil Rees diving to his right and getting both hands to the ball. The hosts battered the visiting defence last 15 minutes and my old mate Willo in goal defied his age, 50 years young by the way!! Reesey out his goal and up for a corner rose above everyone to head downwards only for Willo to spring to his right to claw the ball off the line and then he made an even better reflex save flying to his left when Ben Rapsey struck a great low drive through a crowd of players going a foot inside the post before Willo’s heroics yet again!!

He even had a bit of luck with the very last kick of the game in the 96th minute when from 20 yards Justin Miles smashed one of his trademark free kicks off the underside of the bar like a rocket!! Even Willo on this form wasn’t saving that! The Well will wonder how they’ve gone away with nothing  from this game after having about 70/30% of the game but fair play to Mullion who looked lively on the break and had some good lads on the ball. Not one that would have lived in the memory to be honest until Willo made those 3 brilliant saves to earn him man of the match for sure!! Well done young man 🙄😀👍👏🏼

Very honest match report nailed it for our perspective after a very tough 2023 the lads the last couple of games have been excellent, I have really enjoyed my last couple weeks being involved with the group of lads, I will agree with you Joe the Captain has been excellent, on and off the pitch. Drew in the end I think was the right result, good luck for the rest of the season and wish you and torpoint all the best. Oh a special to your 8 Michael Heron I believe played very well. Always nice to share the touchline with Mr Stephens aswell.

Sticker 0 - 2 Torpoint Athletic

Torpoint goal scorers: Ross & Westall.

We left it very late yesterday but a good result on the road nonetheless against a robust Sticker side. They don't concede as many goals as their league position would usually dictate so I guess we shouldn't have been surprised they were difficult to break down but we should have made it more comfortable on ourselves.

The first half lacked a little quality for the most part, with both sides opting to be more direct than necessary and it resulted in the centre halves being the busier players on the pitch. The home right back was tested a number of times and initially struggled to cope with Easterbrook's dribbling, giving away numerous fouls, but was aptly covered by the experienced Avery on the times he was beaten and avoided the whistle. This threat seemed to ease off though and we stopped turning the screw. The best chance of the half did come from the left, with a low pass into the box to Ross should've been swept home but the little hobbit's size 4s couldn't get a good connection on the ball and was dragged wide on his weaker foot. Chance begging. The 2nd best chance fell to Easterbrook, who beat the offside trap to drive through on goal, but a retreating defender eased on enough pressure in his recovery for Easterbrook to drag his effort wide. Another chance gone begging without hitting the target. Westall and Ross also went extremely close with efforts from range only whiskers away, Ross' in particular from a mile out high on the right hand side. Sticker weren't completely flaccid though and the left foot and control of their forward posed a threat 2-3 times but he too couldn't hit the target. 0-0 HT.

The 2nd half was much better defensively and I didn't feel like we were going to concede, but the longer it stayed at deadlock the frustration ebbed in. We created far more than the first half but again the most the keeper had to do was retrieve the ball for goal kicks. Ross found himself in dangerous positions a number of times on the bottom side to deliver balls into the box but either lacked quality, a recipient or another effort off target. The best balls in from Ross both fell to Westall who struck one high over the bar and another was slightly behind him and that more difficult effort was dragged wide. But thankfully it was these two who won us the game, albeit from a Sticker attack. Deep in our half we won the ball back and a clearance to Westall was superbly flicked on for the forward run of Ross who beat the flag happy offside trap to run in from halfway to finish calmly to take the lead around 83mins. From then on the relief helped our game but Sticker piled forward in search of an equaliser. A corner very late in the game had every Sticker man in the box which was partially cleared with the keeper in no man's land. Seconds later the attack continued but the home custodian was retreating on the halfway line as ManuelJ swooped up a loose ball to set Westall free into the Sticker half, who lobbed the bouncing ball over the stranded keeper and into the net from 35yds for 0-2 on 90mins.

A justified result and score line which took a long time coming, but positives signs we got it over the line for a valuable 3 points. With nearby challengers in the table dropping points it was even more important. And the returning Josh Payn after 10 weeks out injured was also a big bonus for us. Onto next week as we're at home for the first time in '24 hosting a buoyant Altarnun who had a big win themselves yesterday. All the best to Sticker for the rest of the season.
