Junior cup 3rd Round

St Just Reserves 1 - 2 New Inn Titans FC

Connor
Johnny

Saturday provided a trip down to Lafrowda Park, in a Junior Cup Tie vs St Just Res.

Grey looking sky, welcomed New Inn Titans to the Famous St Just Ground, for an Away fixture in the Long Standing Junior cup.

With players missing due to Darts, Broken down Cars, injuries and A Mid season rehabilitation programme still keeping Ryan ‘🐻’ Baber unavailable, New Inn Veteran Andrew ‘Mushy’ Symons had to kit up and step in at left back.

New Inn warmed up and were keen, even with the late arrival of Jareth, who thought it was a 2.30pm Kick off. 👀

Game got underway, and then the heavens opened and it P**ed down. 🌧️
New inn started the game uneasily, misplacing passes, and not getting control of the ball, and with Darren Steadman, running around at 50+ like a young whipper snapper for St just, it seemed like New Inn couldn’t get a foothold in the game, struggling to get any momentum, in the first 20, this was until, a Free kick conceded 25 yards out, left Beale to stand up, and hit a grass cutter no more than a few inches off the turf, sink into the bottom corner, with the Tinners Keeper just getting a finger tip to it, couldn’t keep it out. This seemed to relax New Inn who wanted to then impose themselves in the game.

Then a clearance by New Inn Defence dropped in the centre circle, the St just midfielder picked the ball up, and as the defence came out, he picked out his teammate number 10 who seemed to cut inside and hit a curler from 20 yards out, and into the roof of the net, over the Diving Penna, in goal.

Now the game came alive and there was a sense of a real cup tie happening here, and The Tinners were looking to grab a higher team scalp of New Inn.

But some good football from Titans and Johnny jones got free of his marker about, 25 yards out, took the ball a few yards and curled, his shot, around the keeper and into the net, what a finish, 1-2 to New Inn, 10 mins before half time.

The heavens opened once more and a horrid downpour unleashed on the pitch, making it slippy, and it started to cut up. - half time.

Pudding gave his half time talk and was clear with what he wanted. “Get the ball down, play football and enjoy it lads, it’s the junior cup”

Out the boys went shivering and numb, from being sat down with sodding wet kit, and shivering like sh**ting dogs.

Second half underway, and New Inn had come out this half, and started piecing together some lovely football, and Giving the ball out wide for Owen Curnow on his return to hit some lovely balls into the box, and Mark Curnow on the other wing, doing the same. New inn had 3/4 good chances, but couldn’t find the net.

A challenge on Johnny jones from behind, looked a certain, penalty and even Steadman, claimed it should have been, but the referee just waved play on, couldn’t believe it!

Then a ball through for JJ got him one on one with the keeper, but the ball just kept travelling, and Johnny couldn’t get a finish on a lovely chance to increase the lead.

A couple routine saves for Ben Penna in goal, and the game became scrappy. Titans looked to have got their hold on the game, and then up steps Marky Curnow, who had got over excited with his ADHD and said something to the Ref who decided to sin bin him with 18 to
Go.

This put Titans under the cosh with the man deficit ! And Tinners now playing down the slope, had an attack down their left, they pulled the ball back for their left back who hit an effort from 25 yards out and over the bar!

Titans then had Curnow back on, and played the game out sensibly, with a deserved 2-1 victory away from home, on Lawfroda Turf, against a side who were really up for it, and an enjoyable afternoons game.

Into the 🎩 for the last 16 of the Junior Cup!

Mushy, played well to get 90 mins after 6/7 months out, and Rikki smith was solid at protecting the ball.

New Inn Titans FC vs Pensilva Jan 13th Illogan Park, is the Next Round tie.
