Div 2 West

Illogan RBL Res 3, Perranwell Res 0

Quite a gap in the table between these two so this was only really a modest 3 points for Illogan.

!st goal on 18, a fine strike from outside the box into the top right corner. 2nd goal on 28, a strong header from the left channel; third goal on 53: must say, I saw what seemed like a blatant two-handed push by a home player in the build-up before the ball was played in from the right and eventually found its way into the net.

Best player on the pitch was, I thought, Perranwell's number 9 who deserved a goal for all the running he did. The Illogan lad who takes their free kicks was unlucky: one beat the wall, and with the 'keeper standing still, struck the right post. His next effort went over the wall and hit the bar! Third FK of his went through the wall but into the 'keeper's arms. Quietly reffed on the day, no controversies. Lovely day for footy.

Nice Chatter with Dave James, B.Manning and the Lad who follows Titans; Best comment from a visiting player's mum who opined that the orange kit didn't suit her son!

Free entry, of course, and half-time hot choc the standard £1. Pleasant afternoon's entertainment.

Might have been more entertaining down Newlyn by the look of it, and obviously a happy afternoon at Hayle!

Div 4WEST
Helston Raiders 0 Frogpool 7 HT 0-4
Without a fixture ourselves this game seemed the most interesting on a sunny afternoon to spectate.
The two teams who met last week(Frogpool setting a Division highest ever score-which included 10 different scorers) in a 17-1 home win following on from a number of other big victories versus the polar opposite in Raiders who had conceded 32 in there last 3 games and were without a win.
Played on the narrow top pitch at Dracaena early exchanges were even and if anything suited the home side who as well as a change of keeper fielded 3 debutants in Noonan Phillips and Spencer after losing key players to other clubs over the last few weeks. The freescoring froggers who had among former clubs ex Falmouth Town and St Day striker Kayne Trevaskis leading the line soon took control and the first half goals came in quick doubles along with a couple efforts which hit the woodwork.I was interested to see how another ex St Day and Wendron player Tom Langford already in double figures for Frogpool was playing these days but he was unavailable.
All credit to Raiders they battled for every ball and not once did there heads go down even having a couple of opportunities to grab a goal themselves with a free kick that was tipped over and a shot just wide though for most of the game it was damage limitation to be fair.

A change of formation by the hosts at HT to 4-5-1 was a statement to that fact as they continued to frustrate Frogpool  who had to continue to work for their goals.
Kaynes never got in to more than a slow jog although his first touch and control of the ball is as good as ever and his quality still there and good to see him still enjoying playing and will score a hatful of goals at this level if he remains available and free of injury.
Really impressed overall with the Frogpool side and along with Penryn, Pendeen and Mullion that’s where the two promotions sides will be chosen I believe.
Also massive credit to Helston Raiders as always spurred on by a large loyal support theyve regrouped after nearly seeing the club go out of existence a few weeks back and it’s clear there’s still a great spirit at the club.It now looks like the toughest of times are behind you.Just as Storm done last year stick with it keep fulfilling fixtures and the good times will soon be back.

M.O.M-William Waterton(Frogpool) a new player on my radar but  immediately caught the eye not only with a very impressive perm he covered every blade of grass in an action packed display topped off  with a goal or two.

Referee-Darren Griffith.
Good to see the new slimline Darren back in the middle getting his steps in and also ran probably 3x times more than Mr .Trevaskis.Kept good control of the game which in reality had hardly any flashpoints of note.
An enjoyable afternoon all round

Evely Cup

Hayle 2nds 11-2 Falmouth  utd

Playing a side in the league above was always going to be a difficult task especially with a depleted side. We really struggled to get going today. Injuries and illnesses cost us also with constant changes and players having to play out of position. Hayle played really good football and ripped the team to bits at times. Second half we moved the better and tried to get back in to the game. But we couldn't muster anything today which was a shame. An improved second half but never looked like getting back in the game. I must commend my lads turning up even though they were under the weather to help the team, and on a different day with a full squad it could of been different.

Lads voted me man of the match which was someone

**** of the day was Jamie Beddoes.

All the best to Hayle seconds a really fit, well drilled side showing us we have a lot to do if we do manage promotion this season. As the standard is going to be a challenge.

Great atmosphere in the pub after Sam at least winning a pint downing challenge was a laugh.

Junior Cup next week. 🍊🍊🍊

After two wins on the bounce Goonhavern looked to make it 3 in 3 against a well drilled St Erme side,

St Erme took the lead through a fine goal from the LW who took it down & drilled it into the bottom corner, the lead didn’t last long as 2 mins later Goonhavern were level through a goal of the season contender from former St Erme player Dave “Diddy” Mitchell who hit a sweet volley back over the keeper from a corner.

from the resulting KO St Erme went straight down the other end to make it 2-1. Goonhavern soon equalised through young talent Jayden Andrew who hit a deflected shot from a corner. St Erme again though scored shortly after the KO to make it 3-2

The Second half was more cagey with chances galore but Goonhavern took their chances in the second with 3 goals in about 20 mins with Tom Blackwell & Diddy x2 making it 5-3, you would be forgiven for thinking the game was done but with 4mins left St Erme made it 5-4 then with 1min to go made it 5-5.

As I wasn’t in the squad for this week I stepped up to Ref the game & I see why we struggle for ref’s down here as every player thinks they can ref a game but credit to St Erme’s Skipper once decisions were explained he was fine with them saying “if all decisions were explained like that then we wouldn’t have arguments”

we look to the Junior Cup next week away to Culdrose 2’s

New Inn Titans 4 - 2 Redruth United Reserves

“This is Titans Season Right here, boys” - (Quote) Aaron Clarke October 14th 2023

‘Battle of The Isaacs’

New inn manager Shaun Isaacs vs Redruth Manager James ‘Jimbo’ Isaacs.

This was the eagerly anticipated local derby, Named - ‘Battle of Boscarn’

With family members on either side, and Jimbo having managed for a decade or more, and with Shaun Isaacs having recent success in his first 3 years of management, this was a mouth watering game for the neutral, and those around, to witness.

A lot of banter throughout the past few months, and here we were, for the game.

With Andrew Mushy Symons having marked the pitch and put the nets up, by 8am Saturday morning, the pitch at Illogan park was looking glorious, for this fixture.

Jimbo and his boys, were already at the ground at 13.30, awaiting to get in the changing rooms, but with not a New inn official anywhere near the ground, they were left in the crisp fresh air, until 14.07 when Someone from Titans finally arrived to unlock the changing rooms.
“Come on mushy, open up the door” - bellowed Jimbo!!!

Redruth were keen, and as the New Inn boys arrived and started to slowly get on the pitch for a warm up, James and Neal had their Whiteboard out over the far side of the pitch, and were holding some sort of PowerPoint presentation, of what was instructed for their players this lovely Saturday afternoon. New Inn Had nearly completed their warm up before Redruth started theirs.

The Boys were keen, Boz was getting the troops going, Shaunny was encouraging, and the Rollies were alight!!!

3pm vastly approached and the teams lined up opposite each other like true professionals.
Dave Rowe blew his whistle and the game was underway infront of the very decent crowd, of maybe 70?

Redruth tried to pass the ball about, but New Inn pressed, and this came to a head, on the 7th minute when some good pressing and great battling in the middle of the park, created a ball out wide for Robert, who found a cross to Connor, to beat Baby James in goal, and New inn took the lead 1-0. This wasn’t what Jimbo wanted, and took some air out the sails of Redruth.

Redruth kept trying to play from the back, and this allowed New Inn to press a bit more, Johnny the bull jones, doing his tiresome work, handling 4 defenders of Redruth, who couldn’t seem to mark the bull.

Redruth started to play some more football, and tried getting the ball up top to their skipper James Petty, but between Boz and Ralph, they marked him, keep him facing away from goal.
With Connor Arthur returning, this gave the midfield of Titans a little extra glamour, and this showed when, it gave Nico that little more freedom to stamp his authority in the midfield.
And this work, when another bit of good football created an opening for The Bull, to slot past Baby James at the back stick! 2-0 Titans.

Redruth didn’t stop though, and with a deep free kick, diagonally across to the back post found Pettys head, but he was offside.
A good bit of possession by Redruth, created some good play, and forced a corner.

Kane Isaacs takes the corner, whips it towards goal, and a misjudgement by Ben Penna, the balls in the net! Unlucky and against the run of play!! 2-1

Titans put pressure on the Redruth defence, and another ball into the box, looked like Connor had scored, only for Baby James to get down, save and smother the ball.

Some more work, by the Titans midfield 5, and another chance, on goal. Again this time for the Bull JJ, and he again finds the net!!! 3-1, and a commanding lead, just before half time!

Jimbo would have probably wandered how the hell, Redruth were down 3-1 after feeling happy with his teams first half performance, but they couldn’t break the defence of Titans.

And Shaun was issuing his half time words, with a smile on his face!! Out for the second half they went.

Kick off… and the game started to become a little more stop start and scrappy.
Titans were winning the midfield battle easily, and with no service up top to Petty, this frustrated them.

Titans started to open up the game, some great diagonal balls, to Robert out on his natural wide right position, and switching left to Jack pacy who had returned to torment, Dylan, at RB.

Joshy symons, was winning his battle with Kane, on the Redruth wing. And this was the key components to this game. Individual battles being won.

Nico started showing why he’s one of the best midfielders around, silky footwork, and dogged determination, created more openings, and Robert Penfold, hit the post with a curling shot. Out of the reach of James.

Introduction of fresh legs, made the game even more interesting, Titans Vet Catt coming on, youngster Marky C, for titans! The introduction of inform striker for Redruth, giving them a different outlet.

A sharp bit of work, by Johnny jones, created some uneasiness in Redruth box, a shot rebounded to Catt who was 16 yards out, and hit a low shot left footed into the bottom corner… 4-1 New Inn, and that must of knocked the stuffings out of Jimbos boys!

But they kept pressing, and a tackle on the Titans edge of the box, seemed to have been deemed a foul, creating a set piece for Redruth. A low shot was well saved by Ben Penna, and the ball dropped to Boz Feet who tried to hook out for a throw in but somehow it ended up, in the Titans Goal. Boz had been outstanding and this wasn’t warranted for the Titans skipper. But it gave Redruth, another goal. 4-2

4 to go, and some great defensive work, by Titans Nullified any threat. And the final whistle went.

4-2 New Inn, and Shaunny has the bragging rights of Boscarn. Jimbo will have to stay in now for a couple weeks.

Good luck to Redruth for the rest of the season. And thanks to Jimbo and his boys for coming back the pub, for Food, Pint and some more banter.
