Not much between the two sides. Torpoint kept the ball better and their left winger was a massive stand out as well as one or two of their midfielders. Both teams defended well and largely frustrated their opponents to half chances. Ultimately, Torpoint had that bit of extra quality in the final third because of their very pacey and clever left winger and won two nil. St Blazey look one or two forward players away from being a good team. Didn't ever really look like scoring today. Torpoint well drilled and will end up near the top end of the league. All in all a well contested game which was good to watch. Foul Throw 3, Luke Gibbons, Byron10 and 1 other
St Newlyn East AFC
St Newlyn East 1-2 Altarnun Great game of football at Cargoll Rd that saw Altarnun grab a late winner! Newlyn opened the scoring after 3 minutes when right back Josh Dingle arrowed a 20 yard low drive in to the far corner. We then spurned 2 or 3 glorious chances to increase the lead - Owen London unable to score at the far post and Martyn Probert’s shot well saved - and were frustrated not to have scored more in the first 45. The second half saw Altarnun come back at Newlyn and show why they are enjoying the season they are when they equalised after 10 minutes of the re start when they broke through the middle and a lob saw Saints keeper Jordan Cole at full stretch, managing to get his finger tips to it but the ball dropped just under the cross bar and in. Altarnun were always a threat from set plays and Newlyn looked to have held on for a draw but a visitor’s corner 2 minutes from time was headed in to give them the win. Overall I felt we deserved a point - especially after the first half- but that’s football I guess. Good luck to Altarnun for the rest of the season and thanks for all coming back to enjoy the chilli & rice in The Pheasant.
