Penzance put up a gallant effort in atrocious playing conditions and it was not until the last quarter that Falmouth pressed home their higher league status advantage with two goals in the closing minutes.

Both keepers earned their applause with good saves throughout-Visiting Nathan Murphy was called upon with fingertip deflections to Pugliese and Cox and a Pugliese free Kick.

Craig Nicholls was equal to efforts from Squires,Burchell and in the second half from Goldring but it was his reaction saves to two certain goals from close in headers by Nute and Bettis which kept the tie in the balance.

Falmouth brought on two forwards for the second half and after forcing many corners it was the unfortunate Greet to open the scoring with the ball coming off what looked like his shoulder , 4 minutes later the cup tie was sealed when Langmead released Bowker who with his trade mark low shot across goal into the corner of the net.

Penzance did have the last say when a right wing cross bounced off the crossbar and the resulting shot was cleared off the line.

Referee Ian Roberts handled the game quite comfortably although he got the usual trivial banter to some decisions but with both teams committed to the task there was sensibly, no reckless tackling.

I did a foul count for the first time and had it pretty even .Conceded by Penzance 12 and Falmouth 11-would that be a typical count considering the very difficult playing conditions?

Just like to add, It was a pleasure to sit in the stand surrounded by Penzance supporters including the vociferous Jim Dann.

And on a miserable wet afternoon it was amusing to hear the witty micky taking especially directed at the Falmouth management and of course the referee with absolutely NO offensive language at all.

Good on you Penzance supporters and for the first time met up with the legendary Forum member Cornish Teddy Boy.

Guest Postie Pidge

First time meet too with CTB and Lil Miss Cornwall.

Falmouth defended well and earnt the clean sheet.

Craig Nicholls was easily the star man yesterday with several superb saves - even having a moan when the Penzance bench wouldn't get him a towel!

Hi lads, great to meet you too. Pity I couldn't stay afterwards.

What we need is a couple forum get togethers one for each end of the county to compare notes and have a chinwag. Nothing fancy just casual in a clubhouse somewhere just to compare notes.

Concur with what's been said Falmouth did shade it. We were saying during the match they looked more threatening. Also if it wasn't for Craig's saves Falmouth would have been a couple up before they had their goals in the last few minutes.
