Liskeard Athletic 1

(Tom Cleveland 68)

St Dennis 2

(Lee Rickard 56, Carl Rickard 63)

The first Friday Night match of 2015 drew a decent sized crowd to Lux Park despite the cold and damp conditions, and those present witnessed a hard fought, close match between two West outfits.

The first half saw lots of endeavour without reaching any great height and chances, for either side, were at a premium meaning a goalless first half.

St Dennis started the second half the brighter and took the lead 11 minutes into the half when Lee Rickard cut inside the penalty box and drilled a low shot from an acute angle across Jamie Blatchford in the Blues goal. The visitors doubled the lead just 7 minutes later with Lees brother, Carl Rickard, being the scorer this time as his low drive from distance hit the inside of the post and went in to the shock of the home keeper who appeared to have left it, thinking it would go wide.

Liskeard gave themselves a lifeline just after the mid-point of the second half when Tom Cleveland rounded the visitors keeper Brett Allen and tucked the ball into the empty net.

The home side pressed for a leveller as the game opened up with the action swining end to end, but with no further goals the visitors claimed the three points which send them to the top of the table.

A very fair report. Liskeard played most of the football and look like a young team on the up. St Dennis with a few key players out scored 2 great goals from the ever dangerous twins and managed to hang on with some solid defending from their reliable back 3. I enjoyed the game and will be back to Liskeard for their senior cup clash with St Austell.
